Well that's got a lot of stuff that doesn't fit with current reality. A 3rd term President would be illegal under current laws and would be at least a decade from now. Similarly the idea of the rebel states being centred around California and Texas when those two are currently pretty much polar opposites on the political spectrum.
It could be a cheap cashing in on the deep division inside the US or a more serious warning of the potential costs of such a division continuing but without more detail you can't really tell. There is a wiki page about it here but other than that its about a US civil war and some of the cast it doesn't tell us a lot.

I seen the California and Texas question also being floated around on Twitter (X). The Alternate Historian on Twitter (X) posted this map that is shown in the trailer.

-California and Texas into a coaltion -Florida union -F-22 used as CAS aircraft
Well, this isn't a good start. I am a big fan of Garland (especially his version of Dredd) but am litte puzzled on "Civil War". However it sounds better than the horrific DMZ TV serie on Netflix.

The Templin Institute has posted in Twitter (X)): Preliminary Investigation into the Second American Civil War. Points of Interest - 19 States secede - "Western Forces" vs United States - "Florida Alliance" possibly neutral. - Likely 4th bloc in northwest states. Map seen in trailer: Map made by the Templin Institute using all available information from the trailer:

That sounds like its only forces from California and Texas fighting the rump US - and winning IIRC a mention of their forces approaching Washington - which I assume is DC rather than the state. Which makes it doubly odd with two other blocs sitting on the sideline. Presumably to link up with each other, let alone strike east they have overrun the relatively weak loyalist states between them and then advanced through the neck of loyalist states between the southern and NW blocs.

The Western Forces ore as I call them CalTax have to move true the Florida Allianc to get to DC.

Well in theory, if the Templin Institute map is correct they can go north of Oklahoma by going through Colorado and then the Nebraska and/or Kansas. However the status of the Florida Alliance is somewhat unclear as with the NW bloc. When the break-aways come who actually starts the fighting? If its the rump US government its unlikely they would only challenge the secession of CalTex so would expect some conflict with the other two blocs as well? If its CalTex then it could be more complex.
Anyway I don't think we will know for sure until the film is actually out, if then as the issue could be left fuzzy with both/all sides blaming others.

Sean McKnight made this bigger and cleaner map of the CW24 America, it shows the Florida Alliance having almost the same members as the CSA, it surpise me the makers of the movie did not call it the New Confederacy.

It could be that would be considered either too inflammable or too often overused in the past. Also it doesn't include Virginia or either Carolina or most of all in the current case Texas.
One thing that may explain the neutrality of the NW bloc and the Florida alliance is that USN Boomers are based in Washington state or in Georgia, which are members of those two blocs. As such IF the subs are loyal to those government then they have a deterrent against either the RUS [Rump United States] or CalTex doing anything rash with them. Other land based ICBMs would be mostly in the NW bloc as well but not sure of the deployment of the air based deterrents or tactical nuclear forces. All three US nuclear labs are in California or neighbouring states which CalTex has presumably overrun fairly quickly.

I wonder how James G would think of this movie. The story resembles his own Shanghaied, especially with California and the Western States. However, I'd never see California and Texas ally with each other. One is a Deep Red state and the other is Deep Blue.

Possibly but I suspect that pairing is partly to distance the film from the current political division. I get the feeling that it will be a black and white view, i.e. one side seen as right and the other as clearly in the wrong. From the question made about the President ordering the bombing of Americans and possibly even more with the civilians confronted by the soldier who when they say something like "but we're Americas too" and he replies "what kind of Americans". If California - and probably other blue states - was on one side and Texas - and similarly other red states - were on opposite sides and one is painted as the villains then the film is going to anger a lot of people.
Possibly I'm reading that trailer wrong but that's definitely the impression I'm getting.
