The other night I was looking through some AH sites and on Sufficient Velocity I found an ISOT thread of Nations to a pristine Earth. Said Nations would have in common the starting letter of their name and the poster linked to a thread on AHcom which I looked up. A poster mentioned that an idea would be to allow for would be Nations or Semi-independent or Selfgoverned lands to get into the ”fun”. Having thought about it I also thought of the German Länder set up to limit efficiency of central Government due to something that happened in the 30's and 40's.. However shouldn't one also include the USA States? Another idea of mine was to use a map of days gone by to draw down over the present day Nations and then single out areas for ISOT – from the HRE or Byzantine Empire or whatever. Looking over the various possibilities of states the S group seemed to contain both possibilities but also challenges. Thus I present: World of S – ISOT The following States and parts of States are ISOT to a pristine Earth with all their population and infrastructure aboard Nations: Population: St. Kitts and Nevis (C) 00,047,755 St. Lucia (C) 00,180,251 St. Vincent and Grenadines (C) 00,103,668 Samoa (P) 00,225,681 San Marino (E) 00,033,642 Sao Tome et Principe (A) 00,231,856 Saudi Arabia (ME) 36,947,025 Senegal (A) 17,753,163 Serbia (E) 07,149,077 Seychelles (IO) 00,107,660 Sierra Leone (A) 08,791,092 Singapore (AS) 06,014,723 Slovakia (E) 05,795,199 Slovenia (E) 02,119,675 Somalia (A) 18,143,378 Spain (E) 47,519,628 Sri Lanka (AS) 21,893,579 Solomon Is. Mostly of course of area's I'm not so familiar with like South Sudan, though German Länder, US States or Scotland will also be much appreciated! My idea is to make some writing on this for starters in the short term like first year then the first decade and so on. Edit: no matter what I do to make nice clean table any formatting is out the window, my apologies.

The Immediate effect would be peoples in all these ISOT Nations, Länder, States will experience that their mobile/cellphones stop working due to the missing Clock signal and lack of Satellites. Next Governments or other legislative institutions will want an explanation of events and exterior and exterior threats as well as available supplies to be able to keep society going and avert starvation.
Having soon realized each and everybody is in an alien place though without external enemies – at least not within undomfortable close range they may begin trying to contact other Nations present in this World.
Within max a week I expect the ISOT Nations to be in the know of what went along them to this new World. Also a Clock signal will have been worked out and local Internet running – perhaps Syria and some of the Island Nations will be lacking in this – perhaps some others too.. However nobody is going to starve as everybody will have noticed that there are Bison in the millions on the Great Plains – which may have the Sioux and other Native Nations of South Dakota wonder if this is a signal from the Ancestors to abandon the US and return to ancient customs – Aurocs in Europe as well as Bison, Elephants in the Middle East and Giant Sloth among others in South America. It will be recognized that Homo Sapiens have arrived in a parallel World where no Homo evolved for some reason. According to the Heavens it is understood that the time frame is the one that was left i.e. a day during 2023 CE.
The event may be understood as an act of a supreme being – GOD – Allah – the Great Spirit – and religious institutions begin debating this to have an answer to their believers. Will everybody go bonkers? Even if quite some AH'ers such as us around here may advocate this I would expect mainly the rulers and their institutions to try calm the population. (Here I'm out of known waters so help me out if You don't mind!) I expect a lot of peoples going on with their daily chores as much as possible mostly so families that need to get their children through this with as little fuss as possible – and thus remain calm and secure that ”we'll pull through”.

I'm less confident that 575 of a fairly rosy outcome. So much of world trade and activities will have been disrupted or simply disappeared. Saudi Arabia for instance is going to have plenty of oil but few markets for it or capacity to deliver it while food, technological imports and the like could run out quickly. Syria is devastated by civil war and now cut off from outside aid and ditto for Sudan. The German lands are politically stable but isolated in the midst of deep primeval forests with road and rail links cut off although Schleswig-Holstein does have a coastline.
Will it be that easy to restore an internet system with satellites and international cables cut as well as the loss of most of the world's server systems. Also with Taiwan and other supplies gone how much would computers have to regress to simpler chips? So many other production cycles have been disrupted as well.
There will be a recovery but I suspect it would take decades and a level of regression before this occurs and longer for all the regions to link up again.

Though ISOT oft happen landing the ISOT whatever in a crisis situation which will unify the ISOT party/nation this is one without such (though the Syrian, Sudan, South Sudan, Sri Lanka civil wars/troubles have come along) I'll admit that some kind of bonkery may arise. Though if it in the case of South Dakota could be limited to some killing of a few thousend Bison by triggerhappy would-be hunters it would an easy outlet. A religious or political issue/ideology could be way worse though I agree may happen. So there You have it the man deeply grounded in the Firmament have opened the door to bonkery!

As my last post indicate I'm open to peoples going bonkers!
The case of German Länder is that the Elbe River is connecting Schleswig-Holstein to Sachsen-Anhalt and Sachsen tough Saarland is on its own tough Aircraft may still fly there.
Everybody is on their own untill somebody begin cooperating. There are resources extracted though not all around to everybody. I don't see anybody doing anything for Syria or Sudan though their sources of ammunition drying up along foreign aid may work some - ugly but that how goes.
The Forest's full of Game and the Sea teeming with Fish. Fishermen will have a new day and those not liking it may have to because of rising prices on their most loved foodstuffs.
Regressing to a time before each year a new generation of PC? I may be odd but I rarely change my PC unless forced to by new operating system needed. Yes consumer society is basically gone out the Window.
stevep while I may be too optimistic I don't think this is impossible to overcome - if peoples WANT!

One immediate observation – well not immediately thought about in places as some Ocean Nations or South Dakota but surely Syria was the absence of non-citizens/non-Nationals of any kind. It was somewhat disrupting in some areas as aid workers but also foreign Mercenaries had gone.

That would have a big impact on Syria and possibly also some factor in Sudan with any Wagner presence disappearing. However who it would really hurt would be Saudi as they have a hell of a lot of guess workers and they do the bulk of the grunt work. See here where as it says A fair number of those are probably from other parts of the Arab world but many aren't and if all of them go then a lot of damage will be done. True the country won't be exporting a lot of oil or gas for a while but the rest of the physical infrastructure is likely to be hit in terms of losing many/most of the people who support and operate it.
On the other point yes people will survive and over time technology will recover but I think there will be quite a hit, especially for some countries.

One other point of interest is what would be the impact on our world? With those areas lost, presumably replaced by virgin lands, although what happens to non-nationals who aren't taken along in the ISOT? Are they transported to whatever their home country is or suddenly find themselves in the new virgin lands.
Britain would be affected with the total loss of Scotland, even if counties beginning with the letter S weren't affected [i.e. Sussex, Surrey, Somerset etc]. Plus that would mean one big factor in terms of the bulk of the nuclear deterrent, along with much of the basing facilities have been lost. Ditto with the loss of connections with pipelines for instance connecting N Sea oil and gas with what's left of the country.
Elsewhere in Europe will be affected, with Spain and Sweden probably the most significant losses, along with the German lands but Switzerland will also have an impact. In Africa there are a lot of lands disappearing which could also have big impacts on the Nile especially possible. Asia will have some impacts with N Korea suddenly being able to 'reunite' the peninsula while Syria will leave a significant vacuum and how Islam reacts to the loss of Mecca and Medina? The US has lost two states of which S Carolina is probably the most significant.

This goes along my assumption of effects - Syrian regime will go down the drain when ammunition runs out and though everybody will look at each other thinking what now!
Saudi Arabia along a lot of other Gulf States I believe have a huge number of Asian Guest Workers that will be missing - well they have to roll up the sleeves at start working. I know its nasty and we've all almost (not You and I) forgot how that worked but bad luck.
Not that I find this a fun thing and I usually do what can to minimize damage to ISOT areas but this time is to be different as I've tried to take a more direct approach.

This is all very scetchy - just the most basic searches on ze net - do contribute if You like:
Having established contact of sorts with who else is around the Nations may try assert what is possible and what not.
Most industrialized countries:
South Korea, Sweden, Spain, Scotland, Switzerland, Singapore, Slovenia, German Länder, South Carolina, Serbia, Slovakia, South Africa, Saudi Arabia?
Agricultural producers: Scotland, Sweden, German Länder, South Dakota, South Carolina, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Serbia, South Africa
Oil: Saudi Arabia, Surinam, Scotland
Metals: Surinam – gold, bauxite (aluminium production) South Africa – gold, diamonds, chrome, manganese, vanadium, platinum, zirconium, coal, iron ore, titanium, uranium Sweden – iron ore, copper German Länder – copper, iron ore, uranium, coal
Arms: Sweden, Spain, South Korea, US States, Scotland?
Cars: Sweden, South Carolina, Spain, South Africa, Serbia, Slovakia
Shipbuilding: South Korea, Spain, Schleswig-Holstein, Scotland
Aircraft: South Carolina, Sweden, Scotland?
Infrastructure: German Länder – Elbe River connect the three large in North and East. Saarland isolated.
San Marino, Switzerland, Slovakia, Serbia isolated – South Sudan no sea access.
Short term Issues: Sweden – get the gang wars ended (well it has taken them a decade to realize this problem..)
German Länder – build a road and railway to Saarland though the easy way to handle the problem would be to build a colony at the Rhine River mouth in Netherlands and then shift some Elbe tugs and barges there to do the job. Airtransport is a possible but expensive – Sweden and Spain can supply the Aircraft and Scotland the oil.
Syria – get done with the Civil War or get down the drain. Once the ammo's spent its over.
Sudan – as Syria
Somalia – as Syria
South Sudan – make a deal with Sudan to get some barges down the Nile (no Aswan Dam) or start building a road to Somalia
Sri Lanka – get a solution to internal troubles
South Korea – Singapore – Sri Lanka link up
Solomons and Samoa – get the outrigger Canoes in the Water and replay your Ancestors feat!
Caribbeans – unite with Surinam and get going the Western Hemisphere awaits You! Though the US may have other ideas at this time being quite occupied with securing its own way of life.
Generally link up with other Nations to get functional.
US States – establish connection either by Airtransport or initiate river transport up the Misissippi and Missouri rivers. Overland distance some 1400 km/875 mi. The local problems are natural – South Dakota is within Tornado Lane and South Carolina is troubled the most on the Eastern Seaboard by Earthquakes and Hurricanes going ashore. The most advance Militaries around with the majority based in South Carolina including US Army and Marine Corps Bases. USAF Transport, Fighter and Bomber units in both States. Besides the minor issue of electing a new President the States also have a need for oil thus directing industrial effort into developing such in Texas and Mexican Gulf.

I think you may be missing some infrastructure issues. Such as while Scotland in theory has oil reserves unless the entire Scottish part of the UK EEZ is included in the ISOT then they have to build rigs, pipelines and other infrastructure before they can get to that oil and get it ashore. True once their done that the North Sea's oil from a virgin oil/gas situation would be richer and they could also probably expand into the English, Dutch and Norwegian regions - unless Sweden possibly gets to the latter two 1st.
As I say in the longer term its going to be OK but for the 1st few years, probably a decade or two its going to be difficult tending to very grim for many regions.

Yes but how much of those pipelines and rigs have been brought along. If it was only the land territories and waters linking to islands like the Shetlands and Orkney's or even a 12 mile limit then those connections and facilities will be gone. If its the entire EEZ then it is a different matter.

That is my intention - and I didn't put any specific limits upon it!
