Damn you Lordroel. I had things to do this afternoon! Fascinating read with some interesting new characters added to the story, such as Toni and Breaker. Looking forward to more although sounds like the phyrric last stand of Thunderchild is just about to occur.

Been following it via a link I made and some very interesting ideas as well as foreshadowing of a lot of things to come post the invasion with a lot of changes in Britain.

Want to know if the Martian invasion is only happening on the British Isles ore also in the rest of the world. Would be cool to see the French and Germans landing troops to come to the British aid. |

Want to know if the Martian invasion is only happening on the British Isles ore also in the rest of the world. Would be cool to see the French and Germans landing troops to come to the British aid.
So far there's been nothing mentioned about attacks outside the UK, or even the British mainland. - The book is often see as a criticism of western imperialism during this time period to make more people question it and given his political viewpoints that seems quite likely. IIRC there's nothing in the original story of anything happening outside the UK before disease saves humanity. Mind you there's a lot of people and side stories which weren't in the original including people like the Curies, Breaker Morant, Toni and the like as well as some of the military characters that might be briefly mentioned in the original.

Then let hope this does not have a Heat Ray then, easy for the Martians to fly and destroy the Royal Navy, Channel Fleet.  Wich in the BBC mini series showed their strength against the Martians as even now, artillery is the only thing tat can take out their walkers. |

I wonder how the Martian Invasion will butterfly the 20th Century. Perhaps with Europe distracted, Cuba and the Philippines declare independence just like OTL but without the Spanish to reinforce their colonies, the independence movement will succeed without U.S. intervention.

1897-1898 was the period when colonialism was about to reach its end. The Philippines, Cuba, and Puerto Rico would revolt from Spain. Further out east, Japan was a rising power. Japan and the United States almost clashed in Hawaii, as the U.S. was slowly expanding into the Pacific. It's an interesting analogy to how the Martians are the European colonizers themselves. |
