The title literally means "The triple warning". I recently discovered this short story. There seem no English or Spanish translation of it, although the author is quite famous.
To my surprise, the author explains the butterfly effect a long time before it was actually discovered and named. Not to mention that he wrote the story almost 50 years before "A Sound of Thunder".
Content: {Spoiler} A young man walks through a forest and hears a disembodied voice say "Don't go further, or you'll commit a murder!" He doesn't bother, and nothing seems to happen. The voice warns him twice more, the last time even predicting the ruin of his fatherland. At the end, it explains: The youth caused a butterfly to fly into the royal parks, lay an egg from which a caterpillar will hatch, which will scare the pregnant queen, who'll suffer a miscarriage. That's why an evil king will come to power in the youth's country and start a war that'll ruin it. Oh, and the voice is the omniscient god, of course.

What about the movie The Butterfly Effect, think it is much better than A Sound of Thunder/

I don't know "A Sound of Thunder" but have watched the Butterfly Effect. This is grim as everything the MC [main character] does to try and avert disaster only generates a new one until he finally gives up the love of his life.
I'm also reminded of an Ursula K Guin book, The Lathe of Heaven which has a similar theme in terms of attempts to make things better causing continual problems but on a global scale. In that the MC has the ability to dream a new reality which only he really remembers when it comes into being.
PS Had a quick wiki search for "The Sound of Thunder" and there was a book, film and Star Trek episode, all unrelated but none of them seem to relate to the butterfly effect or anything like that?

Another good movie where the butterfly effect plays a role is the Frequency, this one and The Butterfly Effect are better than A Sound of Thunder.

Had to read the description but yes I remember that as a good film.

The short story is about the butterfly effect (although the concept wasn't named yet, but writers had thought about it since at least 1911). Even if it worked in an odd way in the story. {Spoiler} Different English orthography, and the other candidate wins the election - but there are still humans, a USA, elections, even the same two candidates, even if at least 65 million years have passed!
Haven't seen the movie, but it's an In Name Only adaptation, and folks on the internet have ripped it apart for being so stupid.
Don't know about the ST episode.

OK thanks. Sorry do know that but had forgotten its name. That's rather a weird example as despite a change ~65 million years ago nothing else is affected but the election result and the viewpoint of guy that the time traveling hunter meets on his return. Which prompts him to check and he realised he stepped off the safe path and trod on a butterfly. Got it.

No I was referring to when I did a search on wiki for "the sound of thunder". I.e. that title rather than anything on the butterfly effect. Although that ST original episode is a good example of the concept.

Many thanks. More effects of the change than I remembered and had forgotten the ending with Travis shooting Eckels.
