Night Court still runs on NBC for 9 seasons. It still premieres in January 1984 and still ends in May 1992. But there are differences with it. Such as:
-The show does not go through a whole bunch of cast changes during its first 3 seasons. Instead, the cast lineup they originally had from seasons 4 through 9 is the cast lineup they have for the series' entire run from the pilot to the finale - Harry Anderson (Harry), Markie Post (Christine), John Larroquette (Dan), Charles Robinson (Mac), Richard Moll (Bull) and Marsha Warfield (Roz).
-During their intro, they have those shots of various vehicles going through New York at night in between the cast's shots such as a taxicab driving through an intersection, a horse-drawn carriage, a subway, 2 cars passing a newsstand and a tow truck driving past Smith's bar. Originally, they were added in season 4 when Marsha Warfield joined the show. But instead, they were there from the start.
-During the closing credits during the first 3 seasons, the guest stars all have the names of their respective characters displayed under their own names, but in smaller letters instead of this change being implemented in season 4.
-The closing theme that was used during season 1, then reinstated in season 7 and used for the rest of the series was instead used the whole entire series. It never changed.
-The Starry Night Productions logo at the end does not have its own music and sound effects. Instead, what the viewers hear is the closing bars of the ending theme for "Night Court", except the last one. Same with the Warner Bros. logo afterwards. We hear the last closing bar of the closing theme and the claves going "tink tink".
-Creator/Executive Producer Reinhold Weege does not leave the show after the 6th season. Instead, he stays with it all the way to the end. So the Starry Night Productions logo stays at the end.
-Season 8 was not intended to be the final season. They planned to come back for a 9th season. Season 9 was intended to be the final season and it was.
-"Night Court" was not abruptly canceled and the cast was not told to have their dressing rooms cleared out that following Monday. Instead, they were given plenty of time to clear out their dressing rooms.
-The penultimate episode "The 1992 Boat Show" aired on the night it was originally scheduled to air: May 6th, 1992.
-The series finale is slightly different. Some things are still the same such as Harry getting offered multiple job offers, but turning them all down to remain on the bench at the court. Christine still gets elected to Congress. Dan still finally sees the error in his sleazy womanizing ways and resigns as DA to pursue his true love, Christine. That still shocks Harry and he's still like "My Christine?" Mac still quits law school to go into filmmaking. Now here's what's different: Roz gets a job as a guard in a women's prison in upstate New York. And Bull does not depart with aliens to Jupiter. Instead, those 2 elderly men, Norman and Angelo, were indeed from Jupiter, Florida. Bull still thinks they're aliens at first, but then they show him their IDs and he realizes his mistake. His wife Wanda announces she's pregnant. That excites Bull. He's like "I'm gonna be a daddy?" She asks him what he thinks of that which leads Bull to say his trademark line, "Oookay."
-The final scene features the staff all together one last time and they all congratulate each other on their new chapters in their lives.
-After "Night Court" ends, the show gains in popularity in reruns. They've never been off the air. "Night Court" goes onto be considered one of the greatest shows of all time right up there with "I Love Lucy", "Bewitched", "I Dream Of Jeannie", "The Brady Bunch", "All In The Family", "M*A*S*H", "Cheers", "Friends", "Seinfeld", etc. It gains a cult following.
