Perhaps France not surrendering in 1940 and continuing their fight from French North and Central Africa would keep them in the fight, and when they eventually liberate Metropolitan France, they could get a bigger share of the occupation zone in Germany. Perhaps their new border would expand to the Rhine. |

Perhaps France not surrendering in 1940 and continuing their fight from French North and Central Africa would keep them in the fight, and when they eventually liberate Metropolitan France, they could get a bigger share of the occupation zone in Germany. Perhaps their new border would expand to the Rhine. Reynaud and de Gaulle wanted this, but many others didn't, incl. Petain and Reynaud's mistress.

I doubt they would have changed the actual borders, as opposed to possibly the size of the French occupation zone. Apart from anything else unless you have forced population movements on eastern European levels that would mean a lot of disgruntled Germans inside France which would be a recipe for serious problems. Also even if the population was deported that still leaves the problem of the slow growth of the French population compared to - at the time - virtually all its neighbours.
To have France be more powerful than Germany, other than in the short term while Germany is in ruins and forcibly disarmed you really need a PoD before 1900 and possibly as early as Napoleonic times. Possibly a far more competent French performance in 1870 but even then it was struggling to keep up with military developments in Germany.

Russia and Japan could have been natural allies as much as the former would be with the Qing, but only one area in NE Asia is the sore point for both nations. Of course, the proposal was for Japan to recognize Russian interest in Manchuria in exchange for Russia recognizing Japan’s interest in Korea, which was rejected, leading to that war which ended in Japan’s victory and triggered the 1905 Revolution in Russia.

PC: Newfoundland in a No WWI Scenario
Given that WWI and its succeeding decades had a major effect on the Dominion of Newfoundland, what would the effect on Newfoundland be if WWI had been butterflied away? Could it also result in Newfoundland's economy not taking a nose dive that resulted in such crises that eventually resulted in abolishing its own Dominion status, and having a referendum that eventually resulted in Newfoundland joining Cananda?
