During the Vietnam War Texas has had another with the War, and a group of Texans protest outside the White House declaring Texas as an independent nation. The President declares it as a riot, and the protesters are arrested and sentenced to life in prison. This causes Texas to forever have sour relations with the White House, however this doesn't escalate beyond protests and riots. This changes when 9/11 happens. Texas see's this as a chance to finally be independent again. A majority of Texans pick up their guns and declare revolution. Other states with separatist tendencies see this as a chance to succeed, and Alaska, Hawaii, California, and New Netherlands (New York and New Jersey) declare independence. Republicans and Democrats believe that their party want to be the ruling party after the dust settles, so the 2 parties and their supporters start shooting at each other. After a year an joint EU peacekeeping force is created, consisting of an army, marine corps, air force, and navy, is sent to bring peace to the war torn US. China also decides to help, and occupy Hawaii in order to send troops to the homeland US. At first, China and EU peacekeeping force work together in their common goal to bring peace to the US, however they start getting hostile towards each other as they realize they can use this chance to influence the US that comes out of this war. A Chinese bomber "accidentally," bomb EU troops in a random town in South Dakota, marking the beginning of the Sino-European War, that will be fought on US soil. It seems now that the former US will never be at peace.
