Concerning helicopters, here is a Franco-British ''Gunship'' project - which will finally give birth to the Lynx. The Westland WG 13R launched in 1967.In February 1967, the WESTLAND WG 13R is one of the 3 multipurpose projects of the Franco-British cooperation with the WESTLAND company, designated as prime contractor. Proposed in 5 versions, including one specific to the French Army, which was to remain in the hands of SUD AVIATION. Intended for armed reconnaissance, anti-tank combat as well as aerial combat, the aircraft was to be three-seater (2 pilots side by side and a gunner in the front seat), armed with a 20 mm gun in the ventral turret and 2 wing stumps for external loads, including 6 SS-11 missiles. Despite the hope of obtaining the ideal combat aircraft, to be produced in 60 copies, the project was abandoned in 1970. Nota bene : the versions known as utility and naval were carried out with what became the LYNX. Source: Collectionneur/ www.alat.fr/aeronefs-alat-helicopteres-expe-westland-wg-13r.html
