Because of the threat of another submarine being nearby Olympic does not stop to assist the Titanic, but continued on to Cherbourg, France. A hour later while the evacuation is under way, with Sampson-class destroyer USS Davis (DD-65) along side a explosion happens, causing the ship to break into two and severely damages the USS Davids. A hour after the explosion the stern who remained afloat also sinks, more than 3,000 crew, sailors and officers who where still on board or died in the explosion are death, also some 27 crew of the severely but still afloat USS Davis have died.
