Evidence he was racist is that he forced white-native marriages to breakup. Had he not been I think many whites sympathetic to the natives would have sided with him. Perhaps his confederacy could have won the war of 1812?
Edit: Tecumseh was a Shawnee chief and warrior who promoted resistance to the expansion of the United States onto Native American lands. Who lead a rather large confederacy of native American ethnic groups against the US in the war of 1812 (and died in that same war)
