AN: Ok so this is an idea that just popped into my head the other day and as I'm want to do I started working on it. This is merely the opening chapter. I want to get feedback on it before I try to go deeper into this idea. The basic gist is Apollo 10 finds a gate on the Moon. So think Stargate SG-1 and For All Mankind.

Chapter 1: Apollo 11.
-
The surface of the Moon.
Date: July 20, 1969.
Time: 4:17 p.m. EDT.

The whole world watched as the black and white images flickered on tens of millions of television screens from nearly every nation on earth. For nearly two decades the United States of America had set itself to the task of besting the Soviet Union in space. This day marked yet another chapter in the long history between the two great superpowers. The newest goal for the Americans was to land a man on the Moon and return him safely back onto the Earth. With the landing of the crew of Apollo 11 now safely on the Moon half of that goal had been done. Now it was time to watch as the first footsteps ever taken by mankind were taken upon its surface. For many in America, this was a testament to the hard work of tens of thousands of people working for thousands of thankless hours in pursuit of one goal. Landing a man on the Moon. For those in the Soviet Union, it was a devastating defeat and a national embarrassment. For years the two superpowers had battled it out and now at the end of it all, they had lost. In the coming days, they would pull out and the space race would end. However, this isn't that timeline nor is it the end of the space race. It was merely the end of a phase and the start of a new one.

The sight that greeted Neil Armstrong as he took the first steps upon another astronomical body was in a word breathtaking. The feeling he felt upon looking at Earth was so overwhelming that for a split second he was worried that he might pass out from the utter joy he now felt swell up in his chest. But he had a job to do and forced his eyes back to the lifeless gray dust that was the surface of the Moon. Already the flag was being set up for what would undoubtedly become a world-famous photograph. Once the flag had been set up the two started collecting samples that would be studied upon their return to the Earth. In the back of his mind, he knew that this mission was a cover-up for a much bigger mission. The past mission had reported something that should have been impossible. There in the center of a crater not too far away from their landing area stood what appeared to be a gate. It was halfway buried in the lunar regolith and it was their job to ascertain the purpose of this supposed gate and how it worked. Later missions would be sent but for now, their job was simply to study it and report back their findings.
"Buzz do you have the rock samples"? Neil asked as he picked up a fairly sizeable rock and placed it inside the bag for storage. Buzz, in turn, nodded his head as he returned to the ship to store the rock samples. A few minutes more of half walking half hopping later the real mission started. For the billions on Earth, the biggest news story was of the Moon landing. To Neil, Buzz, and the mission staff at NASA, it was what was about to start.
"Mission Command we are making our way down to the gate now. Our O2 levels appear good. We should have a few hours at least before we are forced to return to the ship". Neil said as both he and Buzz slowly made their way down the side of the crater.
"Copy that Neil. God speed to you both". Came the voice of the mission head. A few minutes later both Neil and Buzz looked at what was undoubtedly a gate of some sort. Alien markings ran along its surface proving fairly conclusively this was not of terren origin. Setting themselves to the arduous task of digging the thing out the two started their work.
-
Three Hours Later.
-
"O2 levels are nearing the red. It's time you both return to the ship. Apollo 12 and 13 will continue the mission to uncover the gate. The president has requested your presence at the White House at the earliest possible convenience. You two will have a nice paycheck once you return planet-side". The mission head said in a joking tone.
"Copy that...over and out". Neil said before cutting the link and returning to the ship. As the ship lifted off the two took one final look at the landing area. They had no doubt that this would be the site for a Moonbase if for no other reason then to ensure they had the gate firmly in their control.
