Magellan in China
On April 1521, Magellan expedition would be washed north west from Guam to a certain island which was green for him in which he would call as The land of Savages which would be later be known as Formosa to the Portuguese where in some of his own crew would die being killed by the natives, he would further go west and he would land in Cathay or Ming China and he would be able to go to Macau and Canton where in they would be able to resupply for the journey back to Spain via the Indian Ocean and the Cape of Good Hope.
He was successful because he was able to find the route west to the East indies and China which had not been utilized by the Portuguese and he was able to return alive with the three ships intact but some of his people dead on the journey.
Charles V was interested in the findings of Magellan and Elcano and his crew that further expeditions would be made so that Spain could exploit this route.

The three lands of Sapa, Comintan, and Ibalon In the 1500s during the reign of Manuel I and Joao III there would be a couple of Portuguese explorers would explore the island where the Luçoes live and found out about the lands of Sapa, Luzon(Where the Luçoes live), and Ibalon which are connected by Isthmuses, and found out that parts of the area was ruled by Bruneians such as the principalities of Manila, Tondo and majority of Luzon and parts of Sapa were controlled by the Bruneians, the Portuguese would explore the place but would not be able to gain any place that they could securely hold as the principalities there are firmly under Bruneian Vassalage or tribute, however it is known that the Portuguese have a right to that place due to the Portuguese exploration in that area is known and the fact that their former suzerains, the Majapahit Empire allied with them.
