Andrew Jackson had an attempt on his life in 1835. What effect would his death had on the fledgling nation? The first assassination of a president will cause a shock across the young nation but i think that it will not be that catastrophic, his vice-president Martin Van Buren will take over and 2 years later will run for office and if he manages to impress the voters will win as he did in OTL.

Well the nullification crisis has passed but the big crash generated by his actions against the Federal Bank is just around the corner. Although this may be delayed if Van Buren doesn't issued the Specie Circular, which triggered the collapse. The Indian removals have started and since Van Buren continued them I suspect he would do this TTL as well.
Its going to be a rocky time because of the fiscal crash, which probably can't be avoided totally. However how it would differ from OTL I don't know. The assassination of a President might had a bit more tension to the mixed but not greatly so. The key point might be would Van Buren feel pressurised to do something dramatic to emphasis his status but in what way I don't know. Its possible that as a result of dissatisfaction with Van Buren's performance it might mean he loses the 1836 election but things would have to go down-hill pretty quickly so suspect this is unlikely

Biggest change might be a negative affect on the democatization of national politics (not talking about modern Democratic Party).
Jackson was central figure in movement to make the American political system more democratic... his death could have affected this. Note though, that most states were having popular votes for their presidential electors well before this, although it took most of another century before U.S. Senators were not chosen by their states legislatures.
