Oh they definitely would topple Hitler alright. The Soviet Army in Germany in 1988 is more advanced than anything the Germans in 1941 possessed.

The more since Stalin has not heard of a certain Gorbachev. So there might be a 1988 Red Army vs a 1941 Red Army.

Also the Soviet Union of June 1941 is at peace with June 1941 Germany and does not know the horror what is coming, the Soviet Group of Forces in Germany from 1988 does know.

I found this document which details some of the Soviet military power in 1988. However, it does not have the exact numbers of Soviet forces in East Germany.

What about this gillan1220: Gold War links, go down to Soviet, then click on Group of Soviet Forces Germany 1988 and there on the lowe left you will find a file called NATO and Soviet OOBs.

Thanks for this. I will look up into it. I can understand how forces were in East Germany at the time of the ISOT.

When I try that any of the Soviet OOBs go to a web site for a minutues seller "Micro Armor Mayhem". This seems to apply for all the Soviet OOBs although most of the other stuff is OK.

No one has mentioned yet the big issue that there are a hell of a lot of nukes among those forces! This could be very dangerous especially if in the midst of the confusion with the loss of all communications with any other parts of the 1988 WP someone panics and assumes there's been some sort of nuclear strike on the USSR. Or avoiding that, if they realise what's happened they could hit just about anywhere within range.
I'm not sure what their attitude would be towards Stalin but given he's not going to welcome such a powerful force being outside his control any intelligent commander from 1988 isn't going to put himself under Stalin's control. However their going to have problems linking up with the other bases - assuming virtually all the forces are in bases rather than spread out on exercise somewhere - then taking control of E Germany and then possibly stomping German forces being called back from their planned attack eastwards. They have overwhelming power but limited resources, especially in equipment and supplies. Nazi Germany is going to be crippled if not quickly destroyed and I think the Soviet forces will use nukes rather than leave it standing but its going to be a very confusing time in Europe.

Just downloaded the file. Pretty interesting read. Mostly tanks, mechanized infantry, and missile brigades. That would be enough to take on the Wehrmacht.

Wikipedia has a good ORBAT.
On June 20 1941 most of Wehrmacht is in the east, completing last preparations for Barbarossa. The token forces in Germany and the west are a complete non issue.
