I get the distinct feeling the Anglo-American leadership of both periods (Lloyd George and Churchill in Britain, Wilson and FDR in America) could get along somewhat well, whereas pretty much everyone else poisons each others’ tea, smothers them with pillows, strangles them from behind, or outright pops some bullets into them? Because that’s probably what the “authoritarian” leaders of both periods would do, what with the acrimony between the leadership of both periods, as well as rivals from the same period. Case in point: Stalin and Nicholas II, who’d also have his own axe to grind with Wilhelm II over occupying Poland, sending Lenin to stir up trouble, and general rivalry in the largest war ever fought up that point. (Hitler and Wilhelm II would come to despise each other just as much, I imagine.) That said, it’d be positively civil compared to the game of shadows between Hitler and Stalin, who might as well be the greatest foes the other has ever faced. All in all, a Byzantine orgy of treachery and mystery murder that might as well be Game of Thrones confined to a mansion, much to the wariness of investigators and excitement of crime shows everywhere.  |

Right as they're about to circumnavigate Africa for the first time, to be exact. Personally, I harbor no illusions they'll be able to reach the Americas anytime soon, but in the long term, who knows where the butterflies will take things?

‘Hannibal And His Army To The Republic Of Venice’. Intersting, what year would Hannibal and his army appear. Eh, maybe 1202, since that’s when the Fourth Crusade kicked off (with Venice providing the crusaders’ fleet). Not sure how long it’ll take both parties to figure out what has happened, though either way, the fact that Hannibal showed up out of the blue is bound to disrupt things. (Having an ancient Punic army and their infamous general materialize at the least convenient time possible will do that.) That, and it also interests me what he and his troops would make of the ironic fact that a bunch of merchant republics were built atop Rome’s ruins after it fell for reasons nothing to do with him, so there’s that. |
