What one-party state, authoritarian countries in the 20th Century could have had female leaders? I have East Germany as one in my latest story but have been thinking of where possible that could have happened. Ideas?

Yes, if there was a way which they could take sole power.

Following nations are candidates: (Tongue in cheek, but not so much when one thinks about it.) Philippine Republic Argentina Mexico India (Obvious) Pakistan (Just as obvious.) China (If Madam Mao had survived.) Russia (Yeltsin's better half.) I can imagine Chile going that way. And surprisingly the United States. (Unusual circumstances might have seen Hillary Clinton taking the economic crisis of 2008 and turning it into her opportunity to create an authoritarian one party state for the US like the one she sort of ran in Arkansas while her husband played at being governor.).

Philippines, I could either see Imelda Marcos going overboard if she took over, or a worse Gloria Macapagal Arroyo government that responded poorly to the Hello Garci scandal.
