I know this isn't what the OP proposed, but it'd be interesting if we were all ISOT'd to our younger selves and were operating in the same timeline together. Meaning that those who arrive earlier would let butterflies loose ahead of time, which those who arrive thereafter would have to live with, if it effects them in a significant way. By the looks of it, stevep would be the first to arrive in such a scenario, with the rest of us following as the years go by. Who knows, maybe we'd notice something fishy about the chain of events preceding whatever date we were sent back to and gradually connect the dots from there, perhaps to the point of trying to contact one another and discuss our current predicament as a group. Of course, this is certainly a digression from the initial scenario, but it'd make a very interesting TL, should someone start it up. Well, someone other than me, since I'm one of the younger members of Alternative Timelines, and thus won't be born until long after stevep and @lordroel have made changes with significant run-off affects down the line. In which case, I'll probably head into this experiencing a rather different early 2010s, compared to if I were the first (or only) person to arrive.

In that case, you'll have fourteen extra years to expand, though whether that'll be counterbalanced by unforeseen butterflies remains a mystery to me.
Of course, I'd be way too young to join in 2001, since I'm only a baby at that point.

Assuming Alternate Timelines becomes a big enough competitor, I wonder if you'd siphon off members who'd have otherwise made AH.com their home base? It may seem minor, but one potential problem I see with trying to overtake AH.com is that it literally has "alternate history" in the name, even if "alternate timelines" still gets the idea across just fine.
There's also the question of whether Alternate Timelines remains a more interpersonal forum like we're used to, which is suspect, if your goal is to compete with AH.com on comparable terms. Which I understand and respect, though there are still trade-offs to be mindful of, if that's the path you take.

Well i try to keep AT the same as it is now, only problem is the members will not be the same as we now have. But AT running in 2001 and investing in some major comanpies will be the only things i will do, will try not to cause to much attention both in changing history and getting to rich that i will get notice, just enough i can buy a island ore two.

I think once you’ve bought an island your gonna raise eyebrows. It would be interesting to see a major AH rivalry,

Island-buying notwithstanding, I'm not too bent on changing history, either. Although, even without intending to make meaningful overarching changes, simply arriving means the butterfly effect will kick in anyway, which none of us can stop from happening. For all I know, my arrival circa ~2010 might generate some unpredictable run-off divergences that result in a Romney victory in 2012, though whether this would actually happen or how plausible this exact outcome is, I can't say with certainty.

Being 30 in late May 1991 I'll be betting on Denmark as European Football champion next year (odds 20:1) won't make me a millionaire but even so it will help. But I'll remember the August Coup in Russia - somebody through work might like to know such. At least quite a number of colleagues will like to know about events two years hence (1993) in Copenhagen riots and the WTC bombing that year too. Hmm, just a few different private life decisions will change my life quite a lot - won't quite know where that'll end. Might not get into AH at all for one. Might have one or more kids - its all up in the air.

We're at the start of the century. I'd think I'd be pretty happy about it. Get to relive my 20's and 30's sounds like fun.
I'd go all Biff Tannen on Vegas for the couple of years and invest those proceeds into Apple/Amazon etc...
Join the Big Short guys in shorting the mortgage market in '08, then mine bitcoin, and get in on the ground floor creating Etherium.
I'd try to make a significant impact in getting our species off this rock.

It wasn't, but the single shared timeline scenario would still be pretty fun to explore as well. You do have to wonder though, with the sheer number of butterflies that'd be flying around, from stevep and others having been working since the early 90's to 'try and make use of their foreknowledge for the general good', by 'changing the system', whether some of the younger members on the forum like Zyobot and gillan1220 might potentially not even be born at all... Luckily enough though (thus far, at any rate- unless there are any older members of the forum, more than twice my age) I'd be just about old enough to escape the potential risk of being butterflied out of existence; arriving in early 2004, after the creation of Facebook but before the enlargement of the EU. I'd still have around ten months to go before I'd legally be an adult, so wouldn't really be able to start getting anything meaningful done until then; but I'd probably pass up on the whole university experience and student debt (which didn't yield any rewards at all IOTL), and set about building my entrepreneurial empire instead, putting some of my more scientific and technical foreknowledge to use. Speaking of which...

Interesting idea but how many of the people born after I - or anyone older than me arrive back in time - are likely to be born? ~31 years ago as I will be 62 in a few months would be 1990 so anyone younger members could be wiped from history. It only needs a small chance to possibly prevent your parents meeting up or a very tiny one to change when they have children and what their genetic make up is. As such many of you could end up isolated from anyone you know and/or somewhat different. For instance if the nearest child your parents have in the modified TL is a year or two older/younger and a different sex say and suddenly has you personality and memories implanted on them? Plus of course if I do try and make major changes and inadvertently trigger a nuclear exchange or some Spanish flu level pandemic say!
