For one, if they want meaningful success in 1946 America, they’ll have to readjust to Hayes Code guidelines. And kick their recent “diversity practices”, since full civil rights remains highly controversial at this time.

Well "In the Heat of the Night" would probably go down like a lead balloon in 1946 US, especially the old south. Heaven knows what they would think of Mississippi Burning or 7 Years a Slave.

Yup a lot of 2021 America would not go down well in 1946 but some of our modern stuff might be a big hit.
I think Lonesome Dove would be very well received as would the Spaghetti westerns.
Band of Brothers and Saving Private Ryan would also be big hits. Almost any war movie portraying the US in a positive light should do well.
Master and Commander would do well.
Most of our modern SciFy should be successful thanks to the latest CGI and FX techniques.

The "woke" stuff would definitely fail miserably back in 1946, but I would agree that the non-political stuff like westerns and the pre-Endgame Marvel stuff might work. 1970s Superman would be fine, like an update to the Superman serials they already knew about. Movies like The Patriot, or maybe Braveheart, would work.

Alot of the movies we see nowadays would fail in 1946 era America. The civil rights era is about ten years away and anything that makes us look bad will be viewed poorly by the downtimers. Anything that shows sex may be banned. I'm unsure how hard the Hayes Code guidelines were but I don't see that as being allowed. Kissing seems ok from what little I have seen of shows from that time but clear sex is likely to see your movies banned and you blacklisted. Pro-same sex or wokeness of any kind will doom you here. People were racist and sexist and will likely be so for years to come.
In sports, the color barrier still exists and so don't be hoping to see anybody that isn't white on any of the teams. This would be a thing until 1947 so about a year later if this happens on 1-1-2021. You may be able to see a few in the smaller teams but nobody in any of the major ones. So any movie about a black man joining a team wouldn't be likey to see much luck here.
Best to play it safe and only show off things that wouldn't upset the people. Push for civil rights slowly. Otherwise, you may be jailed.

IIRC with the Hayes code when a couple even if married in the film were shown in bed both had to have one foot on the floor, on opposing sides of course to avoid any suggestion of 'unacceptable' physical contact. Which will rule out a hell of a lot of stuff from the 60's onward.

So it holding a clearly anti-Nazi viewpoint would help seeing as this would be 1946 and many would likely still be anti-Germany. I would think the burning of the bodies and the killings may cause a uproar. Something like that is likely going to be the cause of a lot of letters being sent talking about how upset it made them and that something this raw shouldn't be shown. I'm fairly sure this may get movies to start using a rating of some kind like we have nowadays. |
