A lot of the tanks we see with Russia’s military consists of T-90, T-80 and T-72 tanks. Before the Armata T-14, there were the Black Eagle and the short lived T-95 tank. Was it more reasonable to have used those prototypes as test beds for the tank technology instead of investing in the Armata series? I admit that this is inspired by the Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour Mod Rise of the Reds, especially the Kodiak and Ogre tanks of Russia in the game, but honestly, someone other than Putin who might be a bit money wise could have simply opt to just address the issues facing the T-80 tanks during the First Chechen War.

Never heard of the T-95, but looking at its Wikipedia page , it looks nice.  |

Too bad that prototype got cancelled as well. It seems that the Armata series in itself could be taking a chunk out of Russia’s financial reserves, with the sanctions and whatnot.

Perhaps the end of the Cold War saw these tanks as unnecessary. I'm wondering too if that double cannon tank from Call of Duty: Black Ops II would have been made as well.

Very true. Unless you have a really big crew, which would be cramped you can only really aim, load and fire one barrel at a time so why the extra costs and complexity of the two barrel system. I think the Soviets even had one design prior to WWII with 3-4 turrets but it was a complex disaster. I'm very much a supporter of the old KISS principle.  |

The T-100 looks more like the M3 Lee done right.
Although I think that if the Russians kept to the KISS principle when designing tanks, that could have saved a lot of money. Upgrading the T-90 or at least resurrecting the T-95 but with elements of the cancelled Black Eagle tank would have been better than building the Armata T-14.
