2043- Another Empire Falls.
The 13th HourA Long Term Future Timeline The United States of America was one of the oldest, most powerful nations in the world heading into the 21st Century. Although some unrest in the 1960s had occurred, that was long gone. America had survived the eviction of President Richard M. Nixon from the White House in 1974, the decades-long Vietnam War, nuclear crises in 1962 and 1983, and the Red Scare in the early 1950s. They had seen the making of liberal reforms in China, the fall of the USSR, and the decline in Communism around the world. When 2000 came, it was deemed the American Century.
However, each administration brought new challenges. Under Bush, terrorist attacks and wars in the Middle East occured. Under Obama, economic disaster plagued the nation. Under Trump, a global pandemic challenged global safety. Finally, America had a break under Biden. However, it was not to last.
Although the Biden Administration had been mostly uneventful, the 2024 Presidential Election in the United States shaped up to be the greatest challenge the United States had ever had. Biden was in clear mental decline and had chosen not to run for a second term as President, and after suffering a stroke in June 2024, Vice President Harris took over the duties of the Presidency during Biden's 5 week recovery. Harris had run against Pete Buttigieg for the Democratic Nomination for the Presidency, and after winning big on Super Tuesday, Buttigieg backed out and Harris announced Buttigieg as her running mate. Meanwhile, the Republicans faced a large, open field. Former President Trump had chosen not to run, but the field was crowded with Senators Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Mike Lee, Tim Scott, Rick Scott, Lindsey Graham, Rand Paul, Tom Cotton, Josh Hawley, and Ben Sasse, Governors Greg Abbott, Ron DeSantis, Mike DeWine, and Larry Hogan, as well as former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, former Vice President Mike Pence, former ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley, and President Trump's daughter Ivanka Trump. After the first-in-the-nation Iowa caucuses, the field narrowed the Haley, Pence, Pompeo, Cruz, and Hogan, after Pompeo scored a victory in Iowa. In New Hampshire, Hogan scored a victory, but Pence and Haley where the polling front runners. Haley won her home state of South Carolina while Cruz won Nevada, causing former Vice President Pence to drop out of the runnings. On Super Tuesday, Nikki Haley scored a major victory that sent her to the party nomination. She chose Ivanka Trump as her running mate.
The 2024 Contest was unique in that it was the first time both candidates were female and the first time both candidates were Asian. On election day, after being virtually tied with Harris in the polls, Haley flipped back Georgia, Arizona, and Nevada for a 270-268 Electoral College victory. She was inaugurated the President on January 25th, 2025, with a Republican-held House of Representatives and Senate.

Presidency of Nikki Haley Nikki Haley was inaugurated the 47th President of the United States in January 20th, 2025. www.yapms.com/app/?m=5e7rHaley began to reverse much of the liberalism that had happened under the Biden administration. She started by pulling America out of the Paris Climate Accord, and America would never rejoin. The first matter that Haley would have to address as President came in March of 2025, when a Cuban-American visiting his home island assassinated Raúl Castro and a Republican revolutionary government attempted to take over. US special ops forces invaded the island but failed to make headway. The Cuban-American war lasted through the midterm elections, when Democrats swept the House of Representatives and the Senate in the aftermath of the war. At home, Haley oversaw a strong economy, with the GDP and Dow Jones hitting an all-new high. However, in late 2027, China surpassed the US’s GDP, a blow to Haley. www.yapms.com/app/?m=5e7sNikki Haley would retire to her South Carolina home. She was the first female president and the only president ever to have been of Asian descent. AOC’s ascending to the Presidency marked the final time a Democrat would officially be elected President.

Presidency of AOC Alexandria Oscario-Cortez, often referred to as AOC, was sworn in as President of January 20th, 2029. She was the first, final, and only Hispanic president, second and final female President, and final Democrat President. AOC began her administration very popular, and this popularity allowed her to pass the Eco-Socialist agenda, and mix of Socialist and Green principles. These reforms where initially welcomed, allowing the US to surpass China again in GDP. However, a few months after the act passed, the stock market collapsed after Warren Buffet’s death and the moving of Berkshire Hathaway assets to a more capitalist country, the emerging power of Brazil. The depression the resulted crashed her popularity and soon after, the Energy Crisis happened. Texaco, Exxon Mobile, and other energy companies went under and filed bankruptcy after fossil fuels were banned in the beginning of Fiscal Year 2030. Blackouts across America occurred and China surpassed the US’s GDP the last time. Firmly unpopular now, conservative Republicans began to rebound, retaking both Houses of Congress in the 2030 midterms. The 2030 race saw one Republican emerge to battle against AOC for the White House: Texas Senator Dan Crenshaw. In the 2026 midterms, Crenshaw faced off against Julian Castro for the Senate seat being vacated by Republican John Cornyn. It was the only vulnerable seat that a Republican won. Crenshaw’s eyepatch, something he was forced to wear after losing his eye in combat, won him a great deal of popularity among veterans. Crenshaw was elected in 2032, defeating President Oscario-Cortez by a wide margin. www.yapms.com/app/?m=5e7q

As in, Crenshaw receiving around seventy percent of the popular vote and being the fourth to win in a forty-nine state landslide (quite possibly all fifty, even!). So I’m not exactly sure how AOC would have enough supporters to win even forty-one percent of the popular vote, unless she did an immediate about-face and promised to repeal every last marquee program she championed (which is basically destroying her own legacy in order to not look like an in-denial ideologue who will never admit to being wrong). And even if she somehow did, I can’t imagine them liking her very much, so much as fearing Crenshaw more.

In all actuality, she'd likely win by a bigger margin. AOC is the last to win 400 electoral votes. Basically, America moves much farther to the left. I am considering though rewriting the electoral votes now, as my suspicions that AOC would not win 400 electoral votes and Crenshaw would be successful in pulling a Reagan '84 or a Nixon '72 out of the hat. I'll rewrite the maps now, thank you.

As for the US moving further left, I'd think that the massive crash spurred by Ecosocialist policies would shock--and anger--the population when they find out that what they voted for in AOC...was a big fat lie the whole time. Which would only provide Crenshaw plenty of talking points that basically amount to "The Democrats deceived you!" (or some more polite variation of that, I suppose). But anyways, glad I could be of help here.

Yes, it was/would/whatever the future term is of that word be a lot like the left swing in the Obama Era that ended in 2016, save the policies AOC championed will come crashing down. Fortunately, Crenshaw will be able to save things and restore America the last time. Crenshaw's successor will mess this up though, pretty badly actually. Like bring the whole country down in a flaming heat (think Rome during Nero, Alderaan in Star Wars, and Hiroshima in 1945 rolled up into one, with a touch of Stalin, Hitler, and just for good measure, a Make America Great Again president who does just the opposite. Regardless, as this Timeline focuses on future states and I've pretty much said that America isn't gonna be around much longer, I have a general idea of what to do as I go forward, but will mostly be making it up on the fly and continuing it as long as I reasonably can. That is, I have a general idea of what nations will be focuses on sooner, thinking China for a little bit, but Brazil, India, or maybe somewhere in the Middle East could be next or entirely instead of China. And thank you for that little bit of help in making this TL better.

Presidency of Dan Crenshaw Crenshaw was elected into office in a landslide, winning 47 states and narrowly losing California, New York, and DC by less then 5%. He began his term with the passage of the Apology Act, repealing the Green New Deal. The economy revived, but it was significantly worse then before AOC’s Presidency. It would take until 2039 to recover. However, things weren’t perfect. China had long become the chief world power with the runner-up being the US. However, in 2036, Brazil passed the US in GDP and in military spending. Unlike China, Brazil was on good terms with the US. Crenshaw was regarded as having let the country together during the hardest peace time in its history. His re-election saw the first and last time a President would win every state and DC, with 80% of the vote to 20% from minor candidates. However, in 2040, Secretary of Commerce Donald Trump Jr. was nominated, running against Democratic Senator Gavin Newsom. The election was very, very close. The legacy’s of Trump and of AOC where controversial. www.yapms.com/app/?m=5ejiTrump won narrowly, after Pennsylvania was called for him 8 days after the election, 20 years after it had held the same role in 2020 and fourty years after Florida held a similar role. It was the last election in US history.

Falling Stars, Part 1
Gavin Newsom never believed he lost. Pennsylvania was decided by only 299 votes, and Newsom called foul. The Electoral College decided Trump Jr. would be the 50th President of the United States. However, only January 20th, twenty three minutes after Trump Jr. was inaugurated, China released a report showing 313 Newsom ballots from Pennsylvania, from overseas voters, never reached the US. Newsom’s supporters revolted. San Francisco became an independent city-state, followed by New York City. Then, former Presidents Obama and Crenshaw where Assassinated. The civil war began.
Militant groups declared independent city-states first. Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington D.C., and Detroit started first. The San Francisco Free State captured Sacramento, Central California, and everything up until the region which called itself Jefferson. Los Angeles captured Southern California and began to move into Arizona. New York City captured much of Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey, and lower New York. Chicago stayed mostly small, trapped in by the US Military. Detroit captured the region around Lake Erie.
Then, it got out of control. Washington and Oregon seceded and formed the Cascadian Republic, capturing the Jefferson region of California as well. San Francisco renamed itself the Bear Flag Republic, and Los Angeles the Sun Belt Confederation. New York City captured Massachusetts and the remainder of costal New England as well as Philadelphia and renamed itself the People’s Democratic Republic of the Atlantic. In fear of the PDRA, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida banned together under the banner of the Republic of the Atlantic. To stop Californian expansion and American inaction, Texas seceded and brought New Mexico, Colorado, Oklahoma, Utah, and Arizona with it. The Appalachian Mountains became the Republic of Appalachia. Chicago and Erie where suddenly surrounded by the State of the Midwest. The Great Plains and South split, and Idaho joined Texas, now the Republic of the Rio Grande. The United States was dead, and in 2043, President Trump committed suicide.
The collapse of America shocked the world. NATO, which America left under AOC, was now arming the Canadian border and waiting for Americana to settle out. The NYSE closed for the final time on March 17th, 2044, when Leader Alexander Chang nationalized the NYSE along with all industry, in the formation of the 3rd North American Marxist country.

Collapse is not an easy thing for a nation to do. The world was in shock at the complete collapse of the United States. Almost immediately Chinese warships where in the harbor of the Republic of Hawaii. Brazil stepped in and stopped China fork conquering, declaring that it was inheriting manifest destiny. Brazil slowly began to step into the void of the United States, and expanded NATO to be the ATO. However, stateside things where not going well.
Justin DeJon stood in the Austin Capitol of the Rio Grande Confederacy. Delegates from the former states of Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Utah, and Nevada had assembled in the large building to form a new government. This region had consolidated power quicker then the rest of the former United States as the nations put west where warring and in the East warlordism had set in, with many counties fighting as independent nations against the more powerful countries. This region, however, only would have the Great Plains and Dixie to really deal with. The delegates had chosen to adopt a Constitution based in part off of the American system and in part off of the British system. A cabinet would be elected that would in the nation. The Presiding Officer would be elected by the electoral college and the remainder of the Cabinet, the State Consul, Treasury Consul, Domestic Consul, Justice Consul, and the Military Consul, would be elected by the Congress (with delegate sent proportionally), the Senate (with delegates sent out three per state with six year terms in various classes), and the Parliament (made of one delegate appointed by the state legislatures). Several states where formed. Out of Idaho, Boise and Idaho where formed. In Utah, Deseret, Bonnevile, and Moab where formed. In Nevada, Las Vegas and Nevada where formed. In Arizona, Arizona, Maricopa, and Navajo where formed. In Colorado, Denver, Colorado, and Lincoln where formed. In New Mexico, Rio Grande was formed. Oklahoma was split between Tulsa and Oklahoma. Texas by far had the most dividing up: Llano, El Paso, Bend, Amarillo, Denton, Tarrant, Dallas, Plano-Frisco, Waco, Galveston, Austin, and Bexar. Most where divided along former county lines.
DeJon, a delegate from Plano-Frisco, is amidst the arguing over the Court system, namely the Supreme Court. The leader of the electionist faction, DeJon is advocating to have popularly elected judges. The opposing faction, the appointists, want the Justice Consul to appoint the judges. However, you are preparing a compromise.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I have a proposal. The Justice Consul shall name the justices but they must be approved via referendum.”
This proposal wins through given the hours of debate already on the subject. After the session, in which the Constitution is ratified, the leader of the appointists faction, Michele Young of Bonneville, comes to you. “Delegate DeJon, you’ve won the battle but not the war.” She says.
“Delegate Young, what did you except?” “Delegate DeJon, you’ve not heard the last of us.”
From there, the first factions where forming. The first elections where held on March 1st, 2046. Justin DeJon is elected Senator from Frisco-Plano, and Michele Young was appointed the Parliamentarian from Bonneville. The first parties formed around these leaders. DeJon lead the Libertarian Faction. Young lead the Constitutional Conservative Party. A left-wing party, the Liberal-Progressive-Socialist Alliance, formed around Elena Hickenlooper, a descendant of the Colorado Governor and Senator.
(This was a fun chapter to write.)

Since I live in what would be Rio Grande territory I'm gonna cover that especially but the rest of the US will be touched on. And yes, we are even gonna see new languages form (think Californian, Hawaiian Revival, Aleutian, and Appalachian as well as English primarily in Rio Grande) and it's gonna go on all on its own because Brazil (which is now a superpower) isn't gonna let China touch the Americas.
