If you are a captain, you might get a battleship. Lt.-commanders only get harbour tugs. If you are a Captain James you can sing like a other Captain James who prevented World War III. Singer James Blunt 'prevented World War III'Alas, he didn't. I'll start 'em but end 'em too.

I'm sorry James, it was one of the BCs sunk at Jutland.

It must have guns, lots of big guns. And missiles. And torpedoes. And armed helicopters. And marines. Oh and an attack submersible too. All that good stuff, please!

Well lots of big guns is OK. Also torpedoes, although their of dubious use on a BB. However the other, other than a few marines definitely needs something a lot more advanced than OTL 1914.
We could give James something from Sdarkshade's universe, which would also include some magic items/spells and for a post-WWII design probably its own nukes. That's not too much is it?

Well that might be the only other option as the other main timeline on this forum is written by James himself, matey he can give himself a cameo in the Red Dawn with him being a British captain.

Not if he wants a BB. No one has them at this time as the OTL reactivation of the Iowa's under Reagan didn't occur. Nearest he could get is a couple of the through deck cruisers carriers are still afloat I think?
If things really go SNAFU he could be the commander of the boomer targeting Moscow but I hope it doesn't come to that.

Doubt they had all that stuff in 1914. Do shells count as missiles? Helicopters and the like however are a bit of an issue. But at least some the Dutch battleships carry torpedoes, although history has shown that they're not all that useful. The greatest effect that I could find is a single hit against a German cruiser at Jutland, and that wasn't even launched by a dreadnought, but by a battlecruiser.

Putting on my serious hat for the moment this was the problem with arming BBs with torpedoes, even more so BCs. Given increases in effective gun range and speed torpedoes proved relatively ineffective but did take up both room and tonnage which was especially important with any stored on the decks. You have a concentration of high explosives that could have nasty effects if hit by enemy fire.
