Any thoughts on Jessica Soho's "Kapuso Mo" series? That's the one with one episode about the hypebeast thing. It used to feature good stories back in the day. They hypebeast episode was sort-of cringe. kyuzoaoi can agree with me. Honestly, I only watch KMJS when it's Halloween because of the horror stories they feature. However, it has become a comedy since 2019 when they featured "paranormal expert" Ed Calaug to do the investigation. The show really reached a new low when they featured the alleged Siquijor "Ghost Ship" which turned out to be Cokaliong passenger ferry.  |

I'm not sure how many netizens in the Philippines are calling out the hypebeast phenomenon. It was a thing in late 2017 all the way to early 2018. The hype died down rather quickly but they are still present. Meanwhile, this article has an embedded two-part mini-documentary regarding this culture. |

Yeah, given that there is a bit of a backlash towards the hypebeast. I seem to recall that one of them in the Kapuso Mo episode, the leader of the Savage x Jelly Juice Crew is a high school drop out who spends more time playing computer games, and another kid ends up changing his behavior after hanging out with the hypebeasts. I've also seen other clips where one girl becomes the Madam of her own hypebeast crew, and the fights. That was horrifying.
And don't get me started on Philippines Got Talent.

The leader of the Savage x Jelly Juice Crew should go back to school. I know he earns by playing video games but that's not lasting on the long run. But if he cannot go back to school, he can at least find work as a cook or a driver. I have friend like him who wasn't able to go to school because he was poor. He used to work as a domestic helper but now he works as a taxi driver and a truck driver where at least he has income to support his small family. Even one friend of mine used to work as a cook for a small-time eatery. The other kids that end up as hypebeasts tend to be swayed by their behavior (i.e. peer pressure). True, not all hypebeasts are violent. In fact, I'm glad the Madam (the leader of her local hypebeast crew) renounces violence or gang wars against hypebeast crew. Unfortunately, the bad apples would continue spoiling the rest thus giving the hypebeasts the bad image and the mockery they do not deserve. As for PGT, what are your thoughts on it? I do see some cringe talents but there are also great ones out there. |

I don’t think there is such a thing called Adult Basic Education in the Philippines, where adults can go back to school and get their high school diploma because they dropped out. Otherwise, my aunt who never went to college would have done just that.

Otherwise, my aunt who never went to college would have done just that. Yikes, car wash in the underwear is barely child-friendly or family-friendly. If I was father, I would not let my children watch that and get ideas of doing a porn shot for a talent. Here in the Philippines, there is what we call Alternate Learning System in which the underprivileged can take to have some basic education and qualifications. |
