What about USS Lexington (CV-16), she was a training carrier at the time, could she not be used. just asking. I would think Lexington would be available, but she's a manpower-intensive unit. I think RN would have trouble finding enough sailors.
That said, the Goshawks can carry Sidewinders and other ordnance, IIRC, so if she could be manned, she could operate as a CTOL carrier, and not just helicopter/Harriers carrier.
My thoughts,
Well she was the only regular carriers i think the RN could loan, doubt the Royal Navy would be able to loan ore allowed to loan a Midway-class ore even a Nimitz-class. |

Quite likely, I would think. If the ship is going, I don't see a couple dozen helicopters being a problem..

That would be some Sikorsky H-34 (Royal Navy uses them as the Westland Wessex), Kaman SH-2 Seasprite and Sikorsky SH-3 Sea Kings. |

No T-45 Goshawk by 1982. Very ironically, the USN naval training aircraft by then was two-seat A-4 Skyhawk (+ T-2 Buckeye).
You'd better keep them away from the Sea Harriers, even more after the Hermes or Invincible losses... |

That would definitely cause IFF problems. Might you it could work both ways. Some A-4's coming in to 'land' at an Argentinean airbase and the people on the ground only notice too late their the wrong colour.  |

They wouldn't be landing. Just dropping off some excess weight. |

True, it would have helped if they went some sightseeing at Río Grande, Tierra del Fuego and dropped some presents there, the Taskforce would less to worry about losing a carrier like what this thread is about. |

You could invent an entire hoax to drive the Argies crazy.
"Hey look, you sunk a carrier ? and Atlantic Conveyor with all the helicopters ? Well... look, we have another carrier and Sea Kings and Wessex aplenty. By the way, watch for the Skyhawks returning to land... you may have a surprise..."

You're correct. I was thinking of BAE's Hawk entering service, not the Goshawk.
A-4s do make for an interesting scenario, though, as lordroel's post indicates...
