A time traveler scoops up senator kennedy just before he is shot in 1968 to 1980.once there he is going to run against carter in the primaries then if he wins Reagan in the general
.what would it take for him to win.

That would change things, I would imagine because the Kennedy family had the charisma that Reagan wished he had while having an expansive network of connections that would be needed in politics.
A more useful change would probably ensure that one Huey Long didn't get assassinated back in the 1930s, allowing Louisiana to be a true test-tube state for progressive lawmaking like what would amount to a UBI, pouring resources into infrastructure, that sort of thing, oh and be pro-black in KKK territory.
