Morning of May 18: It was finally Mons that fell in the early morning, SHAPE having been evacuated to Germany for a week now, most of the installations and vehicles were booby-trapped, thus bringing down the number of infected present in the region. The night was long on the E313 where more than ten waves of infected broke on the Czech defenses which deplored a hundred deaths (the infected being shot down); May 18 is the timid return of the USAF with the help of three B-52H strikes the national road N90 to protect Charleroi, not yet infected but already threatened by the fall of Mons.
That could be a very useful idea as it might disproportionately catch the more intelligent and hence far more dangerous crossed.

Day of May 18:
With the fall of Mons, a gigantic corridor is now opening up towards France. the infected have already taken Dunkirk and now having an adequate military arsenal are driving at full speed towards Amiens, to tell the truth and this is the best news of the week (although it was highly relative) the most feral infected have dispersed to the north where they are cut to pieces by the fierce but not static resistance of the Czechs and Dutch, to the east towards Germany the front remains strangely quiet, probably due to the absence of large concentrations of inhabitants but the south remains here again the critical point.
The French defense has lost a lot of men, equipment and ammunition, it is demoralized where its adversary is not and stages its future victory, in Youtube videos or on Reddit with strange echoes of the propaganda deployed by ISIS during the years 2014-2016, the crossed, often former French soldiers or Belgian civilians, film their abuses (mass rape and cannibalism, desacralization and torture) in order to undermine the morale of the French soldier , often a reservist. At this level of barbarism, the few counter-attacks or elimination of pockets of infected near Lille or Arras turn into scenes of massacres, never seen since the Second World War.
May 18, 2:52 p.m. not far from Arras. Leclerc MBT "Bitche" of the 2nd Armored Division:
Captain Thomasset, the tank commander, had almost choked since the shock of the MMP anti-tank missile which had hit the vehicle a few seconds earlier, Corporel Nogarès was strapped to his firing post, directing the 120mm gun on the targets indicated from "the aiming head", the targets: a heterogeneous set of armored vehicles and civilian cars supported by a mass of "infantry" heading straight for the tanks of the 2nd DB: for already more than 20 minutes, the furious assaults of the crossed had not weakened, on the contrary they even seemed to have been reinforced, first civilians disarmed or equipped with blunt weapons to exhaust the ammunition, then the armored vehicles, those that these bastards had stolen from the French army!
And the worst thing was that most of the tanks deployed had not received their supply of arrow shells or penetrating shells, just high explosive or channeled effect shells, perfect for killing open crossed or in urban terrain, little effective to use against increasingly armored vehicles, including in the worst case against Leclercs or Leopards turned against their users!
The 120mm cannon spat its shell on a civilian bus 1100m away, ripping off the sheet metal of the vehicle and sending thousands of shrapnel onto the grotesque, naked silhouettes of the crossed who ran towards them, "what a fucking nightmare! the 12, 7mm was almost out of ammunition, we should not wait any longer, especially with crossed having anti-tank weapons, we will have to fall back guys! yelled the Captain.
The 2nd DB would do what it can today, it could not fight without ammunition!.

The fall of the army garrison town of Warminister in Wiltshire proved to be the straw that broke the camels back in the south west. A significant amount of the garrisons personnel had already been deployed to Winchester in a disaterous effort to contain the spread of the crossed southwards into Southampton. Most of that force had been wiped out or infected, resulting in Warminister having far fewer defensive capabilities that it normally would have when the Crossed moved northwards through Wiltshire. The remaining army personnel from Royal Dragoon Guards fought a desperate rearguard in an effort to allow their families time to evacuate towards evacuation centres in Bristol.
The troops defending Warminister fought until their ammunition ran out, and then engaged the crossed in hand to hand combat leading to the virus quickly spreading amongst defending personnel. Some ten thousand residents of Warminister were added to the ranks of the crossed, along with hundreds of British army personnel. Those Crossed quickly spread throughout the surrounding countryside, killing and maiming untold thousands of innocents in towns such as Westbury, Frome and Trowbridge before attempting to attack the ancient city of Bath just southeast of Bristol.
Bath - the county of Sommersets largest settlement with its 100,000 residents - was nearly wide open to imminent attack. Military personnel in the area were scattered and disorganised, and Avon and Sommerset Police armed response and public order units were not numerous enough to hold the city.
The PM ordered an immediate evacuation of Bath, with tens of thousands being directing along the A4 to evacuation camps in Bristol that quickly reached capacity. In all the chaos and panic, thousands of others headed north east towards Swindon, which had already been overrun by the Crossed. Terrified refugees found themselves essentially evacuating themselves to their deaths in Swindon. The Armys defensive line along the M4 between Bristol , Swindon and Reading had been broken through in several places, forcing Commanders to order their men to abandon their positions and retreat further north.
Army engineers detonated the old Dundas Aqueduct over the River Avon, which temporarily slowed the spread of the crossed coming at Bath from the southeast, but further west where Avon and Sommerset Police had their main blockades along the A3062 road in the south of Bath was where the situation was the most bleak. Officers fought delaying actions in an effort to allow evacuees more time to flee, often giving their lives (or sanity) in the process.
The Joint Command set up by the British Army and Avon and Sommerset Police reluctantly decided to abandon the entire south of Bath just before midnight, setting up defences along the River Avon and blowing the bridges. It would hold for the time being, but 20,000 men, women and children south of the Avon faced tortures that defied description. The screams of the dying and the laughter of the crossed drifted ove the River Avon that night, traumatising those on the safe side of the river.
Despite the valiant and thus far succesful defence of Bath, Crossed troops and cops advancing westwards along the former M4 defensive line managed to cut off most of the evacuation routes out of Bath and reach the western outskirts of Bristol within a matter of hours. Air and artillery strikes thinned their numbers, but not enough.
Bristol and Bath were both cut off from the rest of uninfected Britain after crossed units from the east and south besieged them from most directions, and both the Severn and Prince of Wales Bridges were bombed by the RAF in an effort to keep the infection out of Wales. This cut off the last evacuation corridor for Bristol and Bath. Despite a heroic and valiant defence by British Security Services and civilian militias, the Siege of Britol and Bath would end in a calamity. 300,000 dead and 100,000 infected. Tens of thousands were airlifted from Bristol Airport before that was finally overrun. Witnesses claimed people were clinging to the landing gear and wings of aircraft as they took off.
Within a month of the outbreak starting, the entire south of England was a slaughterhouse. Between deaths and infections, government officials had secret estimates of over ten million casualties, and with outbreaks ongoing in several NATO members states, there was no help forthcoming from allies. It was everyman for himself.

Evening from May 18 to morning of May 19, 2020. In Belgium, on the southern front, it is now Charleroi which is definitively cut off from the world, quickly fortified by the remains of the Belgian army and French units having succeeded in escaping the trap set by the crossed, the city will hold throughout the month, supplied by parachute drops from the Rammstein base. These are frightening combats worthy of the worst atrocities of the Second World War or the war in Chechnya: no form of pity or respect exists between the two combatant armies, now that the General Staff of NATO has confirmed that an Alpha individual directs the operations of the infected in the south of Belgium.
In any case, Charleroi will be disputed on such many occasions that the city will be deemed irreparable and far too destroyed for reconstruction efforts to be directed towards it.
In the north, the collapse of the E313 line of defense could have been perceived as a bad surprise but to tell the truth it is rather good news, the ranks of the infected have been massively thinned and the evacuation of Antwerp, of its citizens and its works of art went well (obviously very few people were willing to stay in the city), further north the Netherlands set up a series of flexible defenses near Eindhoven: quite rudimentary and taking up the old classics of medieval warfare but also of guerrilla warfare: trenches, traps and flooded ditches are thus dug and set up.
In Germany, it's the calm before the storm: the more than probable collapse of France risks opening a new front on the Rhine, but the German government would then have to take the risk of creating a major diplomatic incident with Paris in it. revealing that Berlin regards France as lost. Chancellor Merkel spoke with President Macron, the latter giving in more and more to the use of atomic weapons on French but also Belgian territory (which many other NATO countries seem to call their wishes).
In France, however, the disorder of the first days gave way to a certain feeling of pride (fueled by the media and the Elysée) calling not to give up an inch of ground while waiting for a possible counter-offensive (potentially nuclear). Indeed the French defense seems to stiffen around Abbeville, where the stocks of tear gas and stun grenades of the local police are used successfully on a group of Crossed trying to penetrate downtown.
Much further east is Moscow where the final plans for the greatest violation of international law are being completed, in the name of Russia's security, this is a 4 step plan: invasion and occupation of Ukraine, Belarus and the Baltic States, neutralization of NATO forces in Poland and Romania (the two countries being destined to become neutral anyway) and installation of a gigantic line of defense thus ensuring Russia an impenetrable defense against any infected or opposing armies. Possibly in case the use of strategic nuclear weapons on France or Western European countries is envisaged.

Well that's a recipe for disaster. Instead of building a defensive lines or aiding powers to their west for forward defence their going to cause chaos and confusion which will make it more likely for the crossed to reach Russia.

To the north, the Antwerp front has more or less stabilized with the penetration of groups of crossed into the southern districts of the city, most of the bridges over the Scheldt having been sabotaged, with the exception of a few determined gates, causing the infected to fall into a crude trap, which were quickly pulverized by a few artillery units deployed a little further north. The arrival of Polish armored reinforcements is imminent and is considered decisive by NATO, which sees for once a possible victory. With the collapse of the British defenses at Bristol and Bath, the high command believe that England is lost for good, which has a disastrous effect on the morale of the troops and civilians, even a minor victory could at least win a precious time for Europe.
Further south, the news is less good, with a large part of the infected blocked in front of what will become the fortress of Charleroi, the fact remains that small groups of infected take on groups of refugees trying to flee to Namur and Liège: the defense of the "chasseurs ardennais" and the Belgian and Luxembourg special forces is heroic but ineffective in stopping such skirmishes.
The stiffening of the French defense did not prevent the crossed from completely changing their efforts towards the East (where Reims is most likely their target) and the West (where it seems obvious that it is Le Havre and Rouen) but here again it seems for once that the French High Command has overestimated the strategic capabilities of the infected, they are well commanded by an "Alpha individual" (the priority target for NATO forces) but do not really have patience or moral considerations to carry out a vast plan of encirclement of the French capital: the failure of "Inherent Shield" will not be repeated.
The French government withdrawn into the Mont Verdun Command Post meanwhile fully took such encirclement into account and devised one of the most controversial and morally abject military plans in history: 'Operation "Jupiter".
Further east, the First Flash and Snowball operations were completed by the Russian High Command, the great logistical and human difficulties encountered were fortunately compensated for by the absence of NATO: no protests, no espionage of the part of the United States (the East side being in complete anarchy) and as for Ukraine, the latter can only count on the courage of its soldiers and its civilians, trapped between the Russian Bear at the East and the Crossed Offensive to the West.

May 19:
Operation Jupiter only awaited the consent of the President of the French Republic, once again the strong decision-making power of the President in matters of defense, a legacy of de Gaulle would once again make the decision. The Dassault Rafale F3 in charge of atomic protection had been brought to the bases of Mont de Marsant, Luxeuil, Saint Dizier as well as on the Creil runway, their mechanics ready to arm the nuclear heads of the ASMPA missiles, estimated at 300kilotonnes; more than enough to change the tactical deal in northern France. President Macron had hesitated for a long time before taking such a decision: France could no longer oppose anything to the threat of the crossed, it could not reconstitute a line of defense on the Seine or the Loire as the Dutch and the Czech-Polish battle group north of Antwerp; the army had been bled by Operation Inherent Shield, its ammunition largely exhausted, only the Navy still seemed largely effective but it could not stop the surge of infected. The worst decision that the president could take would not be the use of atomic weapons on French soil (300kilotonnes representing a relatively low tactical charge) but the setting up of a gigantic trap aimed at attracting the crossed to Reims and Rouen: civil protection had called on all refugees to gather in these cities before a general evacuation to the south, thus knowingly attracting the infected to these cities.
President Macron was perfectly aware, as well as a very small group of members of his particular staff, that this plan meant sacrificing at the very least one to two million French and Belgians to save Europe, he had no no right to failure and even in the event of victory, his name would remain associated with the man who condemned to butchery, then to nuclear fire, hundreds of thousands of innocent people.

May 19 noon: the inexorable advance of the crossed towards the south of Belgium thus allows them to take the towns of Hannut and Gembloux before noon, which directly threatens the millions of refugees, inhabitants and defenders stranded in Namur and in Liège, a little further west, the opposing progress is still stopped by the defenders of Charleroi, who for their part pushed back and even partially counter-attacked on Fleurus: this counter-attack motivated by the feeling of 'nothing left to lose" is enough to overthrow the hundred infected too busy raping and torturing the unfortunate inhabitants left behind, to concentrate on a handful of French and Belgian soldiers charging in protective clothing (balaclavas, masks and anti-projection suits) and spraying their opponents with flash and tear gas grenades, the losses of the "attackers" remain very high but thus make it possible to strengthen the defenses east of Charleroi, since it is obvious that Namur is condemned to fall before the end of the day.
A little further east, it is a fortuitous (and happy) meeting between a German reconnaissance squadron of the first Panzer Division and a group of crossed on board civilian vehicles which thus makes it possible to understand that the adversary is aiming directly Maastricht and Aix La Chapelle, the German High Command will not be mistaken.

May 19, afternoon.
It is one of the most difficult and decisive days that is coming to an end. In Belgium it is costernation as the last two large cities of the country still not infected fall under the blows of the crossed, the hundreds of thousands of unfortunate people who did not have the chance to die before the entry of the crossed into the two cities will perish or turn into blood-drunk monsters; with the collapse of the line of defense, the last companies of the Belgian army withdrawn to Dinant and Durby know that nothing, except a miracle, can save them. Further north and after many difficulties, the crossed succeeded in penetrating Hasselt and now definitively isolate Maastricht while colliding with the towns fortified by the Bundeswher (as well as by some Czech and Slovak companies, deployed in emergency on the spot) in Kerkrade and Sittard. In France, it is a relative lull which does not announce anything good, the waves of refugees in the direction of the traps of Rouen and Reims have ceased, which seems to confirm the thesis that the enemy has taken the bait.
May 19, 2 p.m. somewhere in Paris.
Jean François G stubbed out the butt of his cigarette on the door of his dark black Peugeot, the senior official passed his hands over his face trying somehow to calm down. He had finally learned the ins and outs of Operation Jupiter from a reliable source, which had not failed to trigger a major crisis of conscience. He had served France (correction: the French government) for more than 15 years now, had survived the presidencies of Sarkozy and Hollande, because of his ability to feel the low blows and to adapt to all situations, but he could not tolerate a monstrous plan that would undermine the entire Republic and its institutions. His decision was certainly difficult, contrary to his political ambitions and his cynicism as a senior civil servant, but at least it respected the commitment he had made (and forgotten) years earlier to serve the French Republic and its citizens. He had time to record certain evidence on Operation Jupiter: strike maps, forecasts of radioactive fallout and weather conditions, which would not fail to cause a stir with the media (well, those who had not left the capital ) and bring down this crazy president. It was for France.
The Man turned the key to the vehicle, giving him only seconds before being incinerated in his vehicle's explosion; and this to the great satisfaction of the special services agent. There again it was for France.

May 20, Night. It is the battle of Maastricht which is being prepared with the arrival on the spot of the main reinforcements of the Bundeswehr: biological warfare units, special forces, Leopard 2 tanks and self-propelled artillery Panzerhaubitze 2000, all that Berlin was able to assemble and throw in the battle is present. At least the fierce resistance of the Czechs along the A58 allowed at least the total evacuation of the inhabitants along the line starting from Breda and stretching to Eindhoven while leaving a few hours to the defenders of Bois le Duc to prepare a defensive nucleus supposed to prevent the crossed from reaching Nijmegen for as long as possible. On this scale, it's a race against time that begins; the longer the defenders of Boic le Duc will hold, the more refugees will be able to reach the "green zone" behind Nimegen, in case the bridges of the Waal will all be blown up. in short, this is a battle to defend a bridge much too close to the adversary.
The incessant problem of logistics has become critical, already responsible for a large part of the disasters of the first weeks of May, it is obvious that fighters jets, tanks and artillery lack ammunition like gasoline and their absence is seriously felt then that in some cases, the crossed have already reached villages and towns even before certain units were able to withdraw, most often on foot or for the luckiest on board requisitioned vehicles. The scorched earth defense plan developed for the defense of the Netherlands and northern Germany is therefore largely called into question with entire armies prey to logistical attrition, not to mention human losses (dead or "infected") ) and plummeting morale. Historians will point to this fact as one of the main reasons why Amsterdam and Berlin, hesitant to use nuclear weapons, will rally to the "French" option. Except that the problem lies in the fact that France only has a very small number of tactical warheads, these being then reserved for Operation Jupiter, developed in the greatest secrecy. NATO will only be informed of the operation for a few hours, the French fearing (wrongly) that the Germans and the Dutch have revealed the (abject) secret behind the operation. They will therefore have to consider the use of certain B61 tactical bombs of 400 kilotons, a prospect which strongly displeases the Dutch, even if it seems obvious that the decision must be immediate: the base of Volkel being only a few kilometers away from the front line.
Much further east, the First Flash and Snowball operations are about to be launched in the greatest confusion, the Kremlin having obviously overestimated its military capacities: the logistics do not follow and some units supposed to have deployed have not not even left their garrison yet. With the inexorable progression of the crossed in Western Europe and the inevitable collapse of France, the securing of Ukraine and the Baltic States is now critical and must be completed before the end of June, when the GRU gives the arrival of the crossed in eastern Poland. It is interesting to note that the GRU in a series of memos that will be found years later had considered and even counted on the use of the nuclear option in the first hours of the arrival of the infected on European soil. the fact that France or the American command did not order a strike on the Bruges area remained enigmatic for Moscow and probably played in the outbreak of the 2020 Russo-Ukrainian War.

The morning of May 21.
The advance of the crossed towards Nijmegen and Maastricht is now impossible to contain, lack of ammunition, gasoline and exhausted, the last Czech and Dutch troops south of the green line fought with the energy of despair: the latest communications report human waves, where the mostly naked infected some bearing trophies, most often human organs, rush at machine guns and armored vehicles, soon to run out of ammunition. Yet the defenders will last more than 5 hours; as for 6 o'clock in the morning, the high command succeeded in restoring communications with the brave defenders, only a sinister and maniacal laughter resounded. Further east, the same phenomenon in the suburbs of Maastricht, the wave of infected certainly less (although in the last hours of the fight, some will report motorized convoys of crossed coming from the martyred city of Liège) but so ferocious, it succeeded in overthrowing the elements of the 1st Panzer Division, which had to drive back in disorder towards Aix la Chapelle. Further south, the last defenses of the Belgian army and American units (there will also be some British soldiers there, isolated in Europe at the time of the outbreak of the epidemic) regrouped in Bastogne, in order to contain the shock of a group of crossed who devastated the Durbuy refugee camp during the night.
May 21 is therefore already a black day but it will be necessary to mark this day with another date: that at the same time as the outbreak of Operation First Flash. At 4 a.m., it was therefore an airborne operation involving elements of the 76th Guards Airborne Assault Division, reinforced by units of the 22nd Spetsnaz Brigade, which targeted the NATO bases of Amari ( Estonia) and Zokniai (Lithuania). The latter badly defended and deprived of any air support are quickly taken at the cost of a dozen Russian deaths. A dark day that is not over yet...

Noon of May 21.
NATO is on the edge of the abyss, as well as most European states: after Belgium, it is the turn of the Netherlands and Germany to suffer the assaults of the crossed. The latter, although limited and exhausted by the fighting, have many more resources than the German, Polish and Dutch armies: they do not suffer from fear or death and have a burning desire to throw themselves on the adversary.
However, they do not have the technological and human capacities deployed by NATO. It is obvious at this stage of operations that disaster is imminent, especially now that Russia is unofficially at war with the West! Ironically the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the attacks on Lithuania and Estonia will provide an excellent argument for the use of nuclear weapons against the Crossed: on the one hand to eliminate the bulk of the infected and the another to show an unfailing determination to the master of the Kremlin: Paris was obviously over the moon, not even hiding its desire to settle once and for all the problems of the crossed, the latter being in sight of Rouen and Reims.
It is therefore a difficult but necessary decision which is taken a little before 11:00 am when two Dutch F-16s, each equipped with American B61s take off in an emergency from Volkel, the base being attacked directly by the infected. their targets? The city of Eindhoven and that of Aix la Chapelle; at 11:25 a.m. the few survivors of the Polish and German armed groups only had time to see the silvery silhouettes of the two aircraft before being incinerated (as well as several thousand infected concentrated in these two urban areas).
For the first time (but unfortunately not the last) of the day, the European continent is struck by atomic weapons.
