Primarily in North Africa and West Africa, with limited deployments to Indochina or China. Plenty of the colonial Great Powers have similar units with similar missions. The Germans have the Schutztruppe then i presume.

The British have the Gurkhas, Zulus, Sikhs, Royal Marines and many more options, as befits the largest Empire. The French have the Foreign Legion and the Musketeers. The Germans have Prussian Jagers and Teutonic Knights; Schutztruppe are the predominantly African askari troops in the colonies.

China does not have overseas colonies. The Americans have the Marines, whilst Italy has the Cacciatori d'Africa.

Yes, it did occur in a more protracted fashion. So longer than 1 year, 10 months, 5 days of OTL.

It is quite similar in timeframe of the offensive portion, but China is a very different place. There may not be exact correspondence to crises and lengths in days.
