  And a dramatic contrast to the video I've just mention some details of how bad Japanese forces often behaved in WWII.

  I was suspicious from the start as Mon's while the BEF checked the German advance there for a day or so was lost and was fairly deep behind German lines before you got into real trench warfare. However the rest is a good analysis of the sort of problems both dogs and men faced in the horrors of the western front.  Not sure how accurate he is that Britain recruited mainly from rural areas, although that could well be the case in the initial profession army of the BEF as they would tend to be healthier and more used to the outdoor life than many of the urban poorer elements.

  Interesting oddity from the war. 

  It might be best to take comments about tank aces with a pinch of salt.  For one reason it was very difficult to actually count kills without excluding tanks that had already been knocked out but weren't clearly so.  Especially later in the war when the Germans were on the defensive and often being forced to give ground.  This meant they had no access to the battlefield after it finished and hence couldn't count killed tanks and that, as for the Germans earlier in the war the Soviets could often repair damaged tanks and put them back in service.  For another tankers, especially in heavy combat were more concerned in fighting than keeping count.  Also there was a military history visualized video recently that mentioned that one proliferation author, writing over a long period under multiple names often simply made up events, often to the frustration of some of the veterans he was attributing them too.

  See Lying with Statistics for details on some of the above.  I think the title is a bit unfair as it seems the German military did try and get accurate data on 'kills' but does show how difficult it was.  I can't find the link about the dubious author at the moment - it was a discussion between the site manager Bernard and another author about this guys activity - but will keep searching.  Bernard who runs the Military History Visualized and M H Unvisualized does a hell of a lot of good videos on many aspects of warfare, mostly WWII but also other areas and often seeks to debunk myths.
