On this day 63 years ago at 4.15 Danish time the Nazi-German Armed Forces violated our borders. 13 Soldiers died 21 were wounded, 3 Border Gendarmes died. The Movie 9 April is going on National Broadscast this evening. Government had decided not to resist - the German troops had been told that they wouldn't encounter any resistance. The Troops in Southern Jutland had been alerted and moved out on bi- and Motorcycles to stop the invader. Danish Government decided to try protect its population from the acts of War by cooperating with Nazi-Germany. On 23 August 1943 that cooperation ended with 23 Danish Soldiers and Seamen dead and the Navy ships scuttled. 9 Civilians were killed during strikes and other unrest in Danish cities in the preceding days. 19 September 1943 a large number of Danish Policeofficers and Border Gendarmes were rounded up by the Nazi-German troops to be shipped off to Concentration camps. 4 officers killed during the roundup. 123 died in the Camps before the remainder were brought home by Danish-Swedish Red Cross prior to German surrender 5 May 1945. During October 1943 the Danish civil servants were tipped off of the upcoming Nazi-German rounding up of Danish Jews - of about 7500 Danish Jews some 700 was captured by the Germans and sent off to Concentration Camps where 50-60 died the others were transported home prior to German surrender along the Police. During the shipping across the Sound Sweden was pressured to open their borders and let the Danish Jews in! Danish Social Service and Copenhagen Magistrate served to seal off Jewish property so it could be returned to the rightfull owner post War. During June - July 1944 the Copenhagen workers went on strike in defiance of Nazi curfew - in following fighting in the streets some 87 civilians were killed 575 wounded. A large number of Danish merchant ships took refuge in Neutral ports following 9 April like in the USA but others went to British or French ports and were enrolled in the supply chain across the Seas. Some of those ships in Neutral ports later went to British ports to support the Allied cause. 6000 Seamen sailed for the Allied cause - 850 died. About 1500 Danes joined Allied Forces - 100 died. 6000 Danes joined Nazi-German Forces - 2000 died in combat. 400 were killed by the resistance, 25 killed post War, 46 executed following trail post War. Of the resistance movement 500 died in action - 101 executed following trail - 260 died in Concentration Camps. Civilian casualties - dead - besides those already mentioned 308 due to airraids, 1000 Sailors in waters of occupied Europe. 146 deemed nonsocial individuals also died in Concentration Camps. Hi 575 , as this is a event from the past and related to World War II, i think it best its first in this this thread. Thanks Chief - I was somewhat unsure where to post.

Well anything related to anything about World War II can be posted here, as long as it does not jump ahead of the daily updates, the trolls do not like spoilers. Here is some Nazi propaganda related to the occupation of Denmark (1940).

Hi 575 , as this is a event from the past and related to World War II, i think it best its first in this this thread. The opening sequence of the video is of the landing at Langelinie Quay, Copenhagen Port, close to the Citadel of Copenhagen - Army HQ - of an Infantry Battalion from troop Carrier Hansestadt Danzig and Icebreaker Stettin. The Troopcarrier was a liner where the windows had been blacked out by welding steelplates over them and adding some 88mm guns. Icebreaker Stettin was just armed with a couple of Machineguns. There was actutally a shootout during the debarcation at Langelinie Quay -
the Cops arrived and a firefight ensured. Always trust the Cops to react! Well You can still see the bulletholes in the standing Polarbear at the one end of Langelinie Quay where the Cops took cover before making off when a Machinegun was brought into the game by the Germans. Then off the Germans went to the Citadel - blew up the gate.

Well anything related to anything about World War II can be posted here, as long as it does not jump ahead of the daily updates, the trolls do not like spoilers. Here is some Nazi propaganda related to the occupation of Denmark (1940). At the beginning of the video You again see the ships at Langelinie Quay then the Citadel gate. Then as the Sentry Box is in the left of the view You can see the debris of the blown gate on the cobbelstones.

Just a comment but on the USCW post where it says
I think its more accurate to say that the fort was complete but not fully equipped. Believe this was the case with most of the US forts - possibly in other countries in peace-time as well. Artillery pieces were expensive, both to purchase and to operate and of course needed a fair number of men to operate them including ideally at least some trained gunners. Think most of the coastal forts had only a fraction of the guns and men they would need for full manning.
The die is now cast for the war to begin. Lincoln has his casus belli while also simultaneously reinforcing another stronghold in Florida successfully so a good day for him. From now its down-hill on both sides.

ARTICLEINTENSE SARCASM: (SEE PHOTO.) Those holes you notice were made by Parrott guns and Coehorn mortars.Robert E. Lee's forts were not well laid out or designed. M. More sarcasm: as quick experience was to prove, masonry led to the spall of brick splinters which drove gunners away from those "fancy casemates". The earth work forts where shells buried and exploded and their fragments were absorbed in the ramparts, proved far more perdureable and safer for the garrisons to use during sieges. That is Fort McAllister after it was evacuated. Notice how undamaged it was? Sarcasm: Fort Fisher. This is the Fourth System. It was still in use when the Philippine Islands was attacked in WWII. M. That would be the Fifth System. M. In the specific case of Fort Sumter, it was not the lack of guns; it was the lack of shallow draft shipping and funding that was the reason only a third of them were installed by 1860 when the Federals knew war was coming. Fort Sumter sits on an sand ISLAND, where the harbor depth to the unloading wharf was less than 5 meters or 30 feet deep.

In today's WWII post I think there might be a small typo.
I suspect that should be rocket-firing. Also just noticed a space missing in the 1st embolden spot.

One small point with today's WWII post.
This 1st paragraph relates to events in the Med. It is actually a duplicate of the post in the next section on "Battle of the Mediterranean" which is the correct location so if you could remove the duplicate above.
Otherwise looks good. The USCW thread is developing into full scale civil war with lines being finalised. The WWI thread has the last gasp German offensives staggering on before the final collapse but still unfortunately a lot of deaths still to come.

On today's WWI post you have
This last bit is related to the Caucasus region rather than India so possibly under a Russia, Ottoman/Turkish or possibly ME heading? - Actually reading down you do have the issue mentioned in much more detail in a separate Transcaucasian entry below so this line above is probably redundant.
Will try and check the WWII thread when it appears later but otherwise looking good.
