With Italy in WWI I wonder why they never considered operating in the Balkans, which would have been an option while Montenegro was still fighting or even prior to the CP invasion of Albania, on which Italy had designs. That would probably have been easier than trying to assault such a powerful defensive position as the Isonzo has been shown to be. At least this time Cadorna had the sense to call it off after only 5 days when it was clear there was no hope of success. Given that between the Italian and French fleets and what forces Britain maintained in the region there is an overwhelming naval superiority although U boats might be a problem. A question. Listening to Indie's video for today's WWI post has that been on before as it sounds very familiar?
Steve
Seems the Video is from February 11th instead of March 11th 1916, will fix it.

When you find out that two of the most important naval battles in World War I and II happen a couple days apart but many years apart as well, which two naval battles do i speak off.

Well the big battle in WWI was Jutland so I had a look in 1942 for a naval battle at a similar date and it confirmed my memories about what happened midway through the year.

Congratulations. Hopefully it won't be too depressing if I point out you still have another ~3.5 years to go.
Speaking of today's WWII thread I had to laugh at
That would be a hell of a mission not to mention if it got there and its torpedoes somehow ruptured the dam it wouldn't be very good for anything downriver of the dam, which would include a certain U-133.
Anyway we know that's all rubbish. They actually waited underwater for 3 years then sailed into the N Sea and up the River Spree to pick up Hitler and several of the other fellow Nazis and sailed them to their base in Antarctica where their still plotting their revenge.

On today's WWII thread with
Its interesting that this early there was already a clear split between Congress who wanted a unified India and Hinnah and a lot of the Muslims who wanted a separate Muslim state. Rather undermines the argument that partition was due to British actions.
On the WWI thread I think Tirpitz is finding out that the Kaiser's ego is even bigger than his. His Imperial Highness won't like an underling trying to upstage and embarrass him so Tirpitz will be out in the cold for good.

On today's WWII post a couple of small typos: think there is a 'in' missing here?
Think that bit is in the wrong place. Is it referring to the Scottish Prince, in which case it really needs to be before the name or the latter Allende?
Also had to chuckle at MacArthur's ignorance of the size of Australia. Calling for a motorcade for a ride to Alice Springs. That would very likely be fatal to at least a number of his party given the distance and lack of infrastructure. Also you would have thought he would have been aware of the relative weakness of the US at this point and the allied losses in the FE/Pacific and elsewhere that would make any liberation of the Philippines a pretty distant event. Not to mention you would need to liberate other areas 1st, such as Java and Borneo as stepping stones to it.
Anyway thanks for another good update on events.

Just to check, with today's WWII post. Are you aware that you had the paragraph
in yesterday's post as well?
