A sorry, it should be Schiff 16 instead of ship 16 which would be the English translation for the word ship. OK thanks for clarifying. It does actually fit in then as presumably that was the German classification for the Atlantis. Just seemed to be a bit out of place. Thanks. Steve
Yep, Schiff 16 was the Kriegsmarine designation for Atlantis.

lordroel , One query on today's WWII thread post.
As far as I'm aware and it seems to be supported by his wiki entry Manstein is still fighting in the south in command of the 11thA and besieging Sevastopol so isn't anywhere near Moscow. Not sure who was in charge of the LVI.Armeekorps.

Hé was in command it seems until September 13th 1941 when he was replaced by General of the Tank Troops (General der Panzertruppe) Ferdinand Schaal.

Are you sure about that Lordroel? Not only Wiki but stuff I've read in the past suggests he was there at this stage and until the following spring/early summer when the 11thA finally managed to take Sevastopol and then was sent north for a planned attack on Leningrad that never took place. IIRC albeit at least a couple of decades since I read his memoirs - Lost Victories - it was in there as well.

lordroel , On today's WWII post you have the para:

In today's WWII thread you have:
Are you sure about this as Manchuria was currently a Japanese occupied puppet state? Unless there were Manchurian groups who had fled into the USSR and had been formed/pressed into a unit that was now fighting so far from their homeland. Could it be a mistake and meant to be Siberian?

On today's WWI post you have
- Conrad and Falkenhayn meet at Pless today to discuss next steps in the Balkans with Serbia now defeated, and the Austro-Hungarian chief of staff strongly wants to invade Montenegro and Albania. Falkenhayn, however, views the offensive in the Balkans as having run its course, with the land link to the Ottoman Empire now opened. Though he is willing to entertain the idea of attacking Montenegro - its forces had after all fought alongside the Serbs in the recent campaign - he does view Albania as worth the time or effort.
From the rest of the sentence should this be he doesn't view Albania as worthwhile?
On the WWII post
You again have Manstein in the northern flank of the battle of Moscow whereas as far as I'm aware he's still in the Crimean? See Siege of Sevastopol for some details on this. Manstein was in charge of 11thArmy during the invasion of the Crimean in Nov 41 and for the final campaign against Sevastopol in spring and early summer of 42, which fits in with what I've read elsewhere.

Thanks for your spotting as always, in now declare Manstein to be the find waldo of the World War II in real time thread, if you find him where he does not belong, it means people have read the daily update.

On the WWII thread:
That probably demonstrates how hopeless the chances of success in capturing Moscow was for the Germans by this point. Plus that armoured forces were increasingly fighting as infantry, which AGC were desperately short of by this stage.
On the WWI thread that pretty much summed up Kitchener's position. A very capable man but not suited for the job of Secretary of War, albeit he realised the probable duration of the war and need for massed armies.

What, you mean something dramatic happened then?
With war in the far east/Pacific joining the war in the east [of Europe], continued fighting in N Africa and the expansion of the battle of the Atlantic you are going to be very busy for the next ~42 months then the workload might ease off a bit.

Yep it’s going to be a interesting 42 months of war, but I can handle it.
