For Britain, it is missing separate brigades for the UKMF for Denmark and quite a few home based brigades. I’m not sure why 2nd Infantry Division has been scrapped.

The notion of a Canadian unit with the BAOR went out in the 1960s.

The ARNG formations are not the only ones that exist; IV & VI Corps are the National Guard and USAR units that actually are formed into corps-level formations for deployment to Europe as the third wave of REFORGER in a WW3 scenario. There are more ARNG divisions - the same number as OTL's late 80s - but they aren't at the same level of readiness as IV & VI Corps or grouped into full-strength corps' with all the necessary supporting assets.

Britain has, ITTL, undergone some major changes, as has the NATO command structure generally. CENTAG has been split into two army-level formations; CENTAG and SOUTHAG. At some point in the 2000s, following the use of BAOR elements for overseas wars and wanting to retain the capability to deploy significant heavy forces without using the BAOR, in, say, the ME, forms II Corps. The 7th Armoured Division is formed with existing armoured regiments and armoured infantry battalions, while the I BR Corps assets split their focus between I & II Corps and new TA brigades are formed to boost II Corps headquarters and support units. To round out II Corps, the Canadians move their NATO commitment to NORTHAG (likely one brigade-group permanently stationed in FRG with the rest in Canada). The 2nd Infantry Division becomes responsible for UK-based regular and TA brigades to provide them with a division-level HQ in their home defence role. 5th Infantry Division stands up to replace 2nd Infantry Division in the BAOR role.

That way, the UK has a division (albeit missing artillery and heavy assets) for domestic security, two armoured corps for fighting in Germany, and the 6th Airmobile Division (3 Cdo Bde, 5 Abn Bde & 48 Inf Bde) for Norway. I the absence of WW3, the UK can deploy an armoured division without stripping any assets from Germany.

Examining some of the information and discussion that took place in the 1980s relating to future force changes would be of utility to put together a more effective and realistic mix. For example, 50AD and 29ID had NATO missions in this period, allowing the formation of a single NG corps; there is currently a paucity of FA Brigades in the proposed unit. That could also be a better use of I Corps’ assets; I have not read anything regarding IX Corps being a deployable formation in this period.

It would perhaps make more logistical, strategic and operational sense to group both US corps in CENTAG and the French forces in SOUTHAG.

Using 2nd Infantry Division as a home based unit and deploying 5th Infantry, a new formation, does not make a lot of sense or gain. Keeping the 4 division structure of British I Corps is one option; I’m not sure whether Britain can support 2 three division corps, a brigade in Denmark and a division in Norway over a long period.

Don't know what they were going to do with our Arty battalion H.Q. but we were the brigade's alternate TOC."

UN Intervention Force during the Second Chinese Civil War. The scenario is a backstory to a short story I may write about a British battalion encircled by loyalist elements of the PLA during an attempt to drive southwards on the coastline.

China collapses into Civil War in the mid-2020s, which eventually sees nuclear weapons used by the surviving CCP elements against rebel locations in Xinjiang, Tibet, and Hong Kong. The US launches a first strike with Trident missiles from SSBNs in the Pacific, which destroys the PLA's nuclear capabilities. China descends into a multi-sided civil war, with the PLA holding onto the middle of the country as UN forces deploy to prevent the situation from worsening. There are clashes between the PLA and the UN forces along the borders of their respective zones. This ORBAT does not include Indian troops invading from their border or the Russian Far East Army Command driving in from the north.

Is the United Kingdom seeking to liberate Hong Kong again.

It would depend on the circumstances but I suspect not as that would be a burden in terms of a foreign commitment whereas Hong Kong, with a more liberal and democratic background could be a useful factor in trying to create a more liberal Chinese government. Assuming of course that there's that much less after the CCP nuked it.

The problem with that is the very strong sense of nationality inside China. Trying to establish such a republic would be seen by many in China as an attempt to divide Hong Kong off from them. Using it as the basis for a new Chinese republic would be a different matter that could be a lot more successful.

Furthermore the UK doesn't have the strength or interests in basically setting a new dependent state, as a separate Hong Kong state would be. The US might try this but possibly unlikely, or possibly depending on its status such a republic might get supported from Taiwan.
