While doing some Youtube viewing I saw an analysis of a recent battle at the Stark home castle - Winterdeep is it - which makes Peter Jackson looks like a military genius in comparison. The defenders did just about everything they could to lose the battle and were only saved by a single chance killing of the Winter King I think he was called at which his undead army fell apart. Basically while the guy who produced the video says Martin gets a lot of medieval details right the command of the battle was a total disaster.
Seems there are plenty YouTube articles and internet clips out there which discuse the Battle of Winterfell as it is called and all agree that it was a sloppy plan. Read the 2nd one and very well summed up the mess. Loved the phase " This move, sometimes known as a “Custer,” predictably ends in ruin for the Dothraki cavalry." about the suicidal cavalry attack.
The one I saw was the Shadiversity one entitled "The Battle of Winterfell tactics analysed: Crimes Against Medieval Realism", although he didn't mention the significant of Bran in prompting the Night King to actually attack. See Battle of Winterfell for the link.

I could never get i to Game of Thrones to be honest. Maybe part of that is because everybody loves to bang on about it. When it's all everybody talks about, I have to be a pretentious indie snob and put on Daria or Twin Peaks, but I think it's partially because I'm insufferble.
Also, Daria and Twin Peaks. Binged them both last year. Totally different shows, but both excellent in their own right.

I've been binge watching the show Hannibal. Previously I've seen all the films and read the books. Hannibal is full of things from both, especially many little likeable things (for me anyway) out of the books. However, while I will watch series 1 until the end, it is what I had heard it was: too flashy and too dark.

After Hannibal, I've started watching The Sopranos. The story arcs are amazing and the depth of the characters leave me in awe.

Has anyone seen The Deuce? Its a US tv show set in 70s New York. It's done by David Simon, architect of The Wire. I watched Season 1 last year and today Season 2 has come in the post. Binge watching coming up!

The BBC have made a miniseries of The War of the Worlds. It's soon to be shown. It is set in Victorian England and supposedly is true to the original, unlike that Tom Cruise rubbish. The trailer looked amazing!

I've been watching Dracula on the BBC. Its a three part mini series with the last one tonight. The start was slow and I didn't like the story-in-a-story bit but then it got good. Very good. Dracula is what you'd want from a Dracula. There is gore but humour. Its well written and full of excellent, jaw-dropping twists.

However each was made by external production companies with BBC money. Alone, the BBC couldn't make shows like these. They don't have the talent on staff. Despite being a public body run with a tax they are in many ways privatised in fact.

I saw COBRA last week. It's not half bad. It's not exactly the greatest show in the world, but it chugged along and I definitely wanted to see what happened next.
