Not sure what the dates meant to be but JFK was dead long before Reagan became a major political figure so definitely not an OTL encounter at all. Assume since Johnson is Kennedy's running mate its possibly a 1964 after Kennedy survives/avoids being assassinated although not sure what status Reagan had at that time to become a Republican candidate. Come to think of it since a US President can only serve twice and assuming he won in 1960 as OTL Kennedy could only really be standing in 64, unless he lost then and is standing again in 68?

Interesting map - although, I will note that, if this was 1964, then Kennedy would have won 315-223, mainly because the Northeast had waaaaay more electoral votes back then: (On a side note, now that I'm used to US Election Atlas's weird flipped party colours, it's somewhat disorientating to see a map with Atlas Red representing Republicans, and Atlas Blue representing Democrats !)

The other year, in a story I was writing on another website, I did a US election map for 1980 with red and blue. I had some odd comments which I couldn't understand the meaning of. Were they looking at the same map as me!? Oh... red and blues swapped!

Good point. Its dramatic the relative decline in the old NE region as the demographic centre of the US. I wonder when the suggested Kennedy v Reagan battle is supposed to be set then?

I was wondering why the Domocrats got a solid south and also New York and parts of the neighbouring region but that would fit. Not sure that the west and rest of the north would be so solid for Lincoln however as he would be more conservative that FDR on many issues while the latter's support of unions could also see him pick up support there.

Click on map to enlarge In the US presidential election of 2012, this is what Romney's team believed they would win... give or take. It would be a 295 to 243 victory in terms of electoral votes. Romney didn't even write a concession speech because he was so sure he would win. But then there was less red on the map and too much blue!
