Sad story, doubt he has anything to blame himself for, do not think the crew could have been save if the B-17 did not avoid those children. |

That's very likely but he still blames himself despite certainly being told this many, many times.

Agreed but it was such a dramatic incident in his childhood that he seems to have centred a good bit of his life around it. Been showing a fair bit of it on TV during the day and a good memorial both to those dead men and his work in remembering them.
