That map helps visualise things, at least for me.
Given the defeat of the initial invasion plans and especially if the KB is gutted shortly afterwards Dutch New Guinea [DNG] is likely to become top priority for the IJN. As such, other than Rabaul their unlikely to do much further south and east. The Australians who OTL stopped them on the Koloda Track in the land assualt towards Port Moresby are likely to not be needed so them and possibly some others could be the 1st down-time reinforcements for the Dutch.

Steve It comes from the Royal Netherlands Army museum website which has a lot of info on troops, weapons and time period of the Netherlands forces in Netherlands New Guinea of 1962.
