Something I once posted in the Alien Space Bats and Other Magic forum of the Alternate History Discussion Board.
Netherlands-Japanese Empire
On January 30th, 1940, a powerful ASB creates the Netherlands-Japanese Empire, by merging the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Empire of japan into a new country.
Some of the things that the ASB makes happens are.
The rest of the world still believes that the Netherlands-Japanese Empire, are two separate country’s, the people of the Netherlands-Japanese Empire, believe that the have always have been the Netherlands-Japanese Empire.
Both cultures are merged, so windmills and tulips in Japan are not strange, while in the Netherlands wearing kimono, eating Sushi ore even seeing Geisha walking around is not strange at all.
The flag of the Netherlands-Japanese Empire is a mix of both former country's.
All treaty’s signed at the time by the Netherlands and Japan when the where merge, do not exist, as the empire is a country that has not signed any.
The country consists of all territory’s hold by the Netherlands and Japan at the date of January 30th 1940.
The Netherlands-Japanese Empire is a dual monarchy, whit both the queen of the Netherlands and the emperor of Japan being its head of state, each being treated the same.
The capitol of the Netherlands-Japanese Empire is Amsterdam, but its seat of government is in Tokyo.
Netherlands and Japan, have separate parliaments, each with its own prime minister, whit the overall control of the empire is in the hands of the common ministerial council based in Tokyo, which consist of the two prime ministers, the queen, emperor and four imperial ministers (two for each country’s) and two delegations of representatives (60-60 members), one each from the Netherlands and Japan parliaments who form the imperial parliament , also located in Tokyo.
The officially language of the Netherlands-Japanese Empire is Dutch and Japanese.
All names of colony’s now begin whit Netherlands-Japanese, example is Netherlands-Japanese East Indies, Netherlands-Japanese Formosa, Netherlands-Japanese Korea, Netherlands-Japanese Guiana and so forth.
The empire armed forces are called the Netherlands-Japanese army and Netherlands-Japanese air force and uses Japanese made equipment and training.
The Netherlands-Japanese Empire navy uses the prefix of Imperial Netherlands Japanese ship (INJS) and consist of former Japanese ships who now also use Netherlands names.
Map of the new situation in 1940.
