Star Trek Orange is a joint project between me and Jonathan Kan from the Alternate History Discussion Board and is based on my Kingdom of the Netherlands : a alternate star trek timeline which we used as this timeline foundation in order to create a sort of Netherlands : a alternate star trek timeline V2.0 and a new timeline all rolled in one.
Star Trek Orange Year 1934
Q, an extremely powerful and ancient god-entity with control over time, space and reality itself, after having sent the Galaxy-class starship USS Amsterdam [1] to another dimension and given it to the Kingdom of the Netherlands he decides to do it a second time. First he has to seek a starship that he can send back. As he has already sent the Galaxy-class starship USS Amsterdam to the past he decides to after thinking about it for less than a couple of seconds to send a new starship into the past, using his powers he zaps himself to the USS Orange-Nassau [2] an Intrepid class starship orbiting near the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards, Mars in the year 2375.
Now having found the ship he needs for the job, he begins to think about the right person to command it. After some consideration he comes up with the right person. With one snap he and the USS Orange-Nassau disappear, heading to another dimension and another Earth. What appears to be seconds for the USS Orange-Nassau is really an inter dimension time travel spanning more than 450 years.
With no damage the USS Orange-Nassau appears in orbit of planet Earth. With a flick of his fingers Q zaps the person he wants from his office to the bridge of the USS Orange-Nassau.
This person is Kapitein-Luitenant Ter Zee (Commander) Karel Doorman, officer in the Royal Netherlands Navy. With commander Doorman now onboard the ship, Q appears and explains to commander Doorman that he has been chosen to command the starship USS Orange-Nassau and to help him in this job he will be given all the knowledge necesarry to operate the ship and its system. After only four minutes Q disappears, leaving Commander Doorman alone onboard the USS Orange-Nassau. Standing onboard what he know is the bridge, commander Doorman pinched himself in order to check if he was not dreaming. After confirming that this is real, he decides to confirm that he was still in the year that he was before being zapped onboard this starship.
So his first act as captain of the USS Orange-Nassau is asking the onboard computer what the current year is, the computer responds June 27th 1934. Now knowing that it was all real and he is still in the year 1934, Commander Doorman decided that this situation is more than he can handle alone, so after thinking he decided to go to the transport room and beam somebody up who he knew he can trust and can help him.
After walking toward the nearest transport room he first has to find coordinates where the chief of naval staff is, the person he was planning to beam up, knowing it is Tuesday and still early in the morning he narrowed it down to the naval headquarter in Den Helder. After getting the fix on he engaged the transporter and seconds later a bewildered commander of the royal Netherlands navy is standing on the transport pad.
The high ranking chief of naval staff and also the minister of navy Vice-Admiral Janssen is not happy at first that he was beamed up to a strange place while holding a meeting with his staff, but after seeing Commander Doorman and latter getting an explanation he begins to calm down.
After a hour of talking while walking through the interior of the USS Orange-Nassau, Vice-Admiral Janssen a man who was struggling to keep the royal Netherlands navy a strong force in times of cutbacks, begins to believe that the USS Orange-Nassau might be the answer the Kingdom of the Netherlands needs to again become a first rate world power.
After having beamed down Vice-Admiral Janssen back to the naval headquarters, Commander Doorman is left alone to explore the newest addition to the Royal Netherlands Navy.

Star Trek Orange Year 1935
A year had passed since the appearance of the USS Orange-Nassau in Earth orbit and Commander Doorman being zapped onboard the starship.
In that year both Commander Doorman and Vice-Admiral Janssen spent a lot of time learning about the future by reading PADDs [1] and visiting the many holodecks. During one of those visits commander Doorman discovered that he would die in a future naval battle against the Japanese which kind of shocked him but also made him more resolved to use the USS Orange-Nassau for the good of his country.
Vice-admiral Janssen decided early on that it would be best that no other nation would be involved as the information and technology discovered onboard the ship would result in the Big Secret being revealed. Commander Doorman agreed but he pointed out that in the future, it might be possible that that some major foreigner might need to be reveal "The Big Secret", but it would only in very critical, Earth's life or death situations. Perhaps in other timing like the beginning of political integration of Earth begin.
Vice-admiral Janssen gathered some people he could trust from the royal Netherlands navy, Royal Netherlands army, government officials and people from major companies in the Netherlands like Fokker, Koolhoven, Philips, DAF, Royal Dutch Shell, Artillerie Inrichtingen, Wilton-Fijenoord and the Rotterdamsche Droogdok Maatschappij, etc. After many discussions the government officials, Generals, Admirals and people from major companies agreed to form an Oversight Commission, which would guide the Netherlands in the right direction while also forming a new branch of the royal Netherlands armed forces called the royal Netherlands space force (Dutch: Koninklijke Nederlandse Ruimte Dienst, KNRD).
With the Oversight Commission formed result came quickly like the USS Orange-Nassau being renamed KNRS Orange-Nassau [2] and become the flagship of the royal Netherlands space force with the royal Netherlands navy would providing the crew for the starship while the royal Netherlands army would provide its security and landings detail and commander Doorman would be promoted to rear admiral and become its commander.
Also after many long discussions, intense debates and ultra-realistic military simulations thanks for the computer on KNRS Orange-Nassau[3], the Oversight Commission came to the conclusion that war with Germany or Japan should be avoided by maintaining neutrality. However a strong military was the only guarantee for that neutrality. Hence the Netherlands would begin to rearm as fast as possible and with all needs available, this "short term" project would known as Project Hans Brinker, along with a secondary aim of improve the competitiveness of Dutch industries, thus improving the Dutch economic base, which translate into stronger political influence.
Some of the things the Netherlands government decided to order in the first year where:
- The Netherlands prime arms manufacturer, Artillerie Inrichtingen (A.I.). With its large factory and production facilities began R&D works on modern infantry weapons such as assault rifle (based on the AK-47), light machine gun (based on the MG-3) Bazooka (based on early models of OTL Carl Gustav recoilless rifle), recoilless rifle (based on Carl Gustav's body, but with longer a gun barrel and on a tripod mount) and mortars (51mm light mortar which is based on the Ordnance SBML 2-inch mortar and the 81mm mortar which is based on the L16).
- Establishment of a Korps Speciale Troepen (English: Corps Special Forces, KST) which will be the special force unit of the royal Netherlands Army. They also bear secondary responsibility of exploring modern infantry tactics in the European Netherlands and colonial jungle environment.
- The building of four Tromp-class cruisers[4], eight Gerard Callenburgh-class destroyers[7] and twelve O-16 class submarines[5] that will be built with technology and information obtained from the KNRS Orange-Nassau ship library and should be in service before 1940.
- The car manufacturer DAF and Rotterdamsche Droogdok Maatschappij where selected by the Commissie Pantserautomobielen, the army commission tasked with designing armored cars for the royal Netherlands army and build more than 120 heavily modified M.35 armored cars based on the Landsverk M.39 armored car design IOTL. The design works of a Jeep (based on OTL Willys MB) also began.
- N.V. Koolhoven would also create an Aero Engine Department so that the Netherlands would not have to rely on foreign engines. Their first assignment would produce a 1,200hp air-cooled radial piston engine for the Fokker D-21 fighter. [6]
- Fokker, which was the main aircraft manufacturer in the Netherlands, would cancel the Fokker G-1 fighter-cruiser project, while R&D works of Fokker T.V "aerial cruiser" and Fokker T.VIII torpedo-bomber and reconnaissance floatplane would be put on hold. Therefore the Fokker D-21 mono-wing fighter which would be an improved model and produced in greater numbers [7], Fokker would also begin using the information from both the ship library and the holodecks in designing future fighters capable of outclassing any future adversary in the sky. In addition, Fokker began design work on the F24 transport aircraft (OTL Douglas DC-5) for use with the army aviation brigade and the Military Aviation of the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army. It would also see use in regional routes for the KLM and the KNILM (Royal Netherlands Indies Airways).
- And the other things that was decided was that the naval bases of Den Helder, Soerabaja, Tjilatjap and Pareira would be modernized and upgraded and military factories at the Netherlands and Netherlands East Indies would be expanded. Furthermore, licenses were purchased for production of Bofors 40mm cannon (the design work of naval quadruple mount version based on OTL USN MK 12 would begin at the mean time), Oerlikon 20 mm cannon, and M2 Browning Heavy Machine Gun.
Finally, a Bill was passed to improve the standard of education at all Netherlands colonies, regardless of race. Polytechnic College of Batavia was established for training more skilled workers, technicians and engineers for upcoming expansion of the Netherlands East Indies industries.
Funding of all above project was possible thanks newly discovered natural resources of Netherlands East Indies found in the ship library of KNRS Orange-Nassau.
[2] PADD is an acronym for Personal Access Display Device, a hand-held computer interface.
[3] KNRS is the acronym for Koninklijke Nederlandse RuimteSchip (English: Royal Netherlands Space Ship).
[4] In those computer simulations, the Netherlands armed forces could gave initial German invasion force a very bloody nose, but thanks to the impotent French high command, by July 1940 the Netherlands would be isolated, overwhelmed and eventually overran. The ensure photon torpedoes strikes could wreak havoc on Germany, but the Netherlands would also be contaminated by fallout. Finally the Soviet Union would fill up the political vacuum and occupied the European Continent.
The second option was refraining from using any forms of WMD from the outer space, and discloses the "Big Secrets" to the Allies. In this scenario, the fall of the Netherlands was likewise inescapable, but the Netherlands East Indies was able to held (thanks for the advanced sub and the Netherlands East Indies Squadron.). The War in Europe was ended around September 1944, while the Pacific War would be over by the end of 1944. But the Netherlands casualties would be around 60-70% of OTL, and the Netherlands would have to be completely reconstructed.
[5] Which resemble an OTL Improved Atlanta-class anti-aircraft light cruiser, which was twice the displacement of OTL Tromp-class. The gun layout of De Ruyter would also switch to Tromp-class standard.
[6] Which resemble an OTL Gearing-class destroyer.
Both Tromp-class cruisers and Gerard Callenburgh-class destroyers ITTL would be the first types of warships in the world to use proximity fuze.
Meanwhile all existing Admiralen-class destroyer would receive a full AA armaments upgrade: main guns becoming DP capable. They would resemble to OTL Fletcher class destroyer.
[7] Which resemble an OTL Post War Dolfijn-class submarine, and were constructing in utmost secrecy, for they were the most advance (by jump ahead of two decades) naval vessels in the world at the time. Semi-underground submarine pens (like OTL Soviet during Cold War) would also build for those submarines at remote part of the Netherlands East Indies.
[8] Early helicopters were powered by air-cooled radial piston engines, hence the choice.
[9] Twin-engines heavy was a luxury which the Netherlands could not afford during 1930's. Fokker D-21 ITTL would look like the P-36 but with three pieces bubble canopy (like some Japanese WWII fighters such as Ki-27, Ki-43, and Ki-84), fully retractable wide track undercarriage opened outwards from mid wing and armed with two .50 MGs synchronized with the propeller mounted in the engine cowl and two .50 MGs mounted in the wings just outside the propeller arc. In theory, in the hand of well-trained pilot, TTL D-21 could even dogfight with A6M Zeros or Ki-43 Oscars and win.

Star Trek Orange Year 1936
A year after its creation the Royal Netherlands Space Force had expanded to a force of almost 1,000 people who served either on board the KNRS Orange-Nassau or on two bases located in the Aru Islands and Suriname.
The Royal Netherlands Navy first two Tromp-class cruisers which both began construction in late 1935 and in early 1936 is progressing as planned with the last two Tromp-class cruisers construction slated to begin before the end of 1937, the eight Gerard Callenburgh-class destroyers construction is also underway in several shipyards across the country in order to get them finished before 1940.
The first battalion of the Korps Speciale Troepen (KST) is activated by the Royal Netherlands Army while the royal Netherlands marines began their own Expansions. The Korps Speciale Troepen (KST) is also slated to complete operations for the royal Netherlands space force when it operates under its command, the Royal Netherlands Marines can also be used by the royal Netherlands space force if needed.
Rear admiral Doorman, commander of the royal Netherlands space force issued an order in the middle of 1936 that all attention for the coming years is to be focused on the Netherlands as he has received many request for diverting precious resources on projects like sending one of the two shuttles to the Moon or a probe to Mars.
The first prototype of the Fokker D-21 successfully took to the skies on March, the production would begin in November using a modernized production line to maximize the output. Fokker also had started work on the next fighter dubbed the D-22 which is based on the yet to be build American P-51D Mustang.
DAF would create their own Aero Engine Department and would be given a task of designing a 1,600hp class liquid-cooled supercharged V-12 engine. DAF completed the first M.35 armored car for the royal Netherlands army after only a year of research, mostly done onboard the holodecks of KNRS Orange-Nassau where DAF designers managed to conduct numerous field test without having to build one first. After the designers where happy with the final version of the M.35 armored car its production began at modernized production lines.
Artillerie Inrichtingen began limited production of the K-36 Carbine (Karabijn. The name "assault rifle" was not used, because they fear attracting foreign attention) which was based heavily on OTL AK-47; MG-36, which based heavily on OTL MG-3; Pantservuist-1 (English: Armored Fist-1 or short PV-1) Bazooka; Terugstootloze Vuurmond-1 (English: recoilless rifle or for short TLV-1) and a new generation of 51mm and 81mm mortars. Full production of these weapons would only start on the eve of WWII, and export was strictly forbidden at the moment because of fear for unintentional butterfly effect.
In order to keep things secret and collect information the oversight commission which by now is also known as the shadow government managed to convince the prime minister Hendrikus Colijn into creating the royal Netherlands military intelligence service (Dutch: Koninklijke Nederlandse Militaire Inlichtingen Dienst, MID), this agency will use information gathered trough the royal Netherlands space force or other methods in order to protect the Kingdom and its colonies.
The MID was the integral part of the Oversight Commission's "mid-term" project - Project Bewakers - WWII and the Cold War would be unavoidable. The project made sure that Germany and Japan knew invasion of the Netherlands was a very bad idea, WWII would not end as Axis victorious, Western Allies would do a bit better than OTL by offered some subtle helps and when the Cold War came around, made sure it would not turn red hot and escalated into Nuclear Holocaust or the let the Communist prevail, and finally pave way for the "long term" project - Project Fusion - preparation of eventual unification of Earth.
Across Europe, governments begin to notice the new shift in Netherlands politics and increased spending in its military, in Berlin they believed that the Dutch are only rearming for self-defense and were no treat to them. While in London and Paris rumors are beginning to circulate that the Netherlands have something in their possession that helps them expand so fast without destroying their economy. Meanwhile Philips unveiled their latest compact (in relative term) table top vacuum tube radio, which was cheaper and performed better than competition all over the world, the sales ensured Philips would earn a hefty profit. None of the countries knew the real truth and all attempts to discover it have so far failed.
But under this mysterious backdrop, there was an exception in Charles Lindbergh.
Lindbergh's family have lived through the traumas of the kidnaping, then the dead of their infant child, "The Trial of the Century" and its prototype form of sensationalizing Paparazzi Journalism. They decided to take refuge in Europe in late 1935.
"The Lone Eagle" as he was called was also carrying out United States Army Air Corps (USAAC) secret missions: access the true strength of German and Netherlands airpower.
Lindbergh visited Germany first in July, he was impressed with the state of the art facilities and he was also allowed to fly a prototype of Bf-109. Then he visit the Netherlands with the Royal Family giving Lindbergh's family an even warmer welcome. When Lindbergh toured Fokker's R&D facilities, he was utterly shocked, they were even superior to the Germans' counterparts. Lindbergh was likewise allowed to fly a prototype of the D-21, he liked the plane a lot, as he later wrote in his report, "Fokker D-21 is a pure joy to fly, handling and maneuverability is second to none, in term of mid to low attitude performance it is the best fighter in the world. However, in high attitude, Bf-109 (and perhaps Spitfire, which I don't have chance to test fly yet) will have an edge."
In the farewell banquet, Anthony Fokker [1] offered Lindbergh a business proposition: Lindbergh would be given the prototype D-21 which he flew days earlier as a gift. Fokker was willing to sell the license to produce D-21s to one of manufacturers in the States, preferably Hughes Aircraft, for Fokker was impressed by Howard Hughes' record breaking feat the year before. Lindbergh would be asked as Fokker's unofficial sale representative, the former gladly agreed.
Lindbergh's first trip to the Netherlands had a profound effect on his view of the world: the Spanish Civil War had just erupted. The outbreak of a "Second Great War" would only be a matter of time. But among all Western Democracies, only the Netherlands was doing the right things by making proper preparations. America and other Western Democracies must adept the "Dutch Model" as soon as possible.
Lindbergh would fly his D-21 back his temporal home in England. He remembered (and much to his dismay) that Gloster Aircraft Company was still producing Gladiator bi-plane fighter. So he flew his D-21 to the company headquarter at Gloucestershire and challenged the Gloster test pilot to dogfight his D-21 with a Gladiator, the D-21 won most of the contests (only in slow speed low attitude Gladiator had an edge). Lindbergh suggested to the Gloster boss to purchase the license to produce D-21 instead, the later admitted that D-21 was a way better fighter, but Air Ministry were just ordered the initial batch of 37 Gladiator. However, he agreed that after the entire first batch were all delivered, he would lobby Air Ministry to buy the better fighter (the idea never passed The House of Common in this year or next year)
Later that year, Lindbergh visited Hughes at California and allowed Howard Hughes to test fly the D-21, who was equally impressed. Then Lindbergh proposed Hughes to purchase the licenses of production from Fokker, on condition of future sales revenue would be shared equally. Hughes knew that Lindbergh wrote a good review of the D-21 to the USAAC, and that plane would certainly become the fighter of choice of the USAAC. He agreed to the deal without much hesitation.
Then both headed back to the Netherlands to sign the contract. Hughes was also given the chance to visit Fokker's factories and R&D facilities, the assembly line left a deeper impression to Hughes than even the R&D facilities. Finally Fokker told Lindbergh that, when Lindbergh revisit the Netherlands next year, bring in Donald Wills Douglas Sr. and Amelia Earhart as well as there where some business and publicity stunt proposals on the table for both of them.
[11] ITTL he was invited back to head Fokker and became a member in the Oversight Commission.

Star Trek Orange Year 1937
January
Pratt & Whitney brought the license to produce N.V. Koolhoven's NVK1200 1,200hp engines.
February
Artillerie Inrichtingen began R&D work on a light rocket artillery (based on OTL BM-12) and light howitzers (based on OTL M3 howitzer).
Fokker after two years of designing introduces the Fokker F25 transport aircraft which would be built in a military version called the Fokker F-25 Troopship intended for use with the aviation brigade and the military aviation of the royal Netherlands East Indies army and a civilian version called the Fokker F25 Friendship.
Later that month, Lindbergh visited the Netherlands for the second time; he also brought with him Donald Wills Douglas Sr. and Amelia Earhart. They were shown a pre-production model of the Fokker F24 Friendship (based on OTL DC-5), and a half-finished prototype of the Fokker F25 Fellowship (based on OTL DC-4). Anthony Fokker explained that KLM wanted a four-engine long ranged passenger plane for the "Colonial Route", so they try to build one. Douglas was shocked, it was better than his own DC-4 (DC-4E) design. Anthony Fokker then told Douglas that he guessed the F25 would be in great demand in both Europe and America, but his own factories might not meet all the demand, so he offered Douglas the right to produce the plane in license, the same deal of Hughes, therefore Douglas could concentrate on the American market. Douglas agreed without much hesitation, he also made a deal to license produce the F24/DC-5 as well.
Earhart was given an offer of using a F25 to complete her round-the-world equatorial route flight. On the condition of making an Amsterdam to Batavia flight first and that the round-the-world flight would start in Batavia. She showed great curiosity for the F24 and F25, but she had to decline the offer for the moment, because she already had an extensive modified Lockheed Electra 10E ready for her round-the-world flight.
March
Amelia Earhart made her first attempt of round-the-world flight but it was unsuccessful as IOTL. Her sixth sense gave her a bad feeling of the Lockheed Electra, and she decided to accept Fokker's offer to fly the F24.
April
The army aviation brigade became the royal Netherlands air force (Dutch: Koninklijke Luchtmacht) and with it the third independent service in the royal Netherlands armed forces, the newly founded royal Netherlands air force is expanding rapidly with dozens of Fokker D-21 fighters in service and growing.
May
Wilton-Fijenoord, Rotterdamsche Droogdok Maatschappij and the Verenigde Nederlandse Scheepvaartmaatschappij (English: United Netherlands Shipping Company, VNS) [1] embarked on an ambitious project of completely modernize merchant shipping by introducing containerization.
June
De Ruyter -class light cruiser, HNLMS De Ruyter, the first modified ship belonging to the royal Netherlands navy, enters service. HNLMS De Ruyter which is considered the most advance anti-aircraft cruiser in the world has many things installed which the yet to be completed Tromp-class cruisers will carry as well like radar and AA weapons years ahead of any nation on Earth.
At Wright Field Ohio, the first home built Hughes H-2 Fighter (license production of Fokker D-21) was pitted against the Curtiss Y1P-36, XP-37 and a pre-production model of Seversky P-35. After the H-2 won the contest in style, the USAAC awarded the contract to Hughes Aircraft and ordered 210 H-2s (which are given the designation of "P-40A Falcon" ITTL) next month. USAAC also announced that after the first batch of 76 Seversky P-35s would all be delivered, they would order no more. The stock price of Curtiss-Wright Corporation and Seversky Aircraft Company fell like a rock as a result. Howard Hughes gradually collected their stocks at basement prices.
Flying a heavily modified F-24, Earhart made a successful Amsterdam to Batavia flight with much fanfare. After a week of rest and goodwill visits, she began her second attempt of round-the-world flight.
July
Construction of two radar stations began with the first being built in Den Helder, the other one is being built in Nieuw-Milligen and would act as reserve. The two radar stations will use Advanced sensor and radar equipment replicated on board KNRS Orange-Nassau and will be linked with KNRS Orange-Nassau giving them the ability to spot a plane as far as Berlin or using sensors of KNRS Orange-Nassau anywhere on Earth. The colonies of Suriname and Dutch East Indies will receive their own radar stations, with one to be built in Suriname and three to be built in the Dutch East Indies.
Earhart finished her voyage by the end of the month, returning to Batavia. She received a heroine welcome first at Batavia, then at Amsterdam, and finally her third ticker-tape parades waiting for her at New York.
August
Vice-admiral Janssen who is the chairman of the oversight commission invited prince Bernhard to become a member of the commission. Prince Bernhard accepted the offer and became the only royal member in the oversight commission. Later prince Bernhard often visited the KNRS Orange-Nassau where he began to spend a lot of time using one of the two holodecks or learning to fly one of the two shuttles which are onboard the Orange-Nassau.
September
The DAF M.35 armored car wich had entered into full production since the end of 1936 was now in service with the 1st and 2nd armored car squadrons (Dutch: Eskadron Pantserwagens) of the royal Netherlands army light division. DAF Jeeps also entered into production. DAF then received several orders by the royal Netherlands army for the production of a medium tank, an armored transport and a successor to the M.35 armored car.
October
Fokker began testing the Fokker D-22 fighter with a real prototype after successful tests on the holodecks of KNRS Orange-Nassau were completed. The D-22 was based heavily on the yet to be build American P-51D Mustang and would be used primarily as an interceptor. Exsiting Fokker D-21s would be upgraded to a "B" model with a NVK1300 1,300hp engine, improve protection and with unguided air-to-ground rocket launch capability. It would be used as a fighter-bomber.
Lindbergh and his wife flew on their second trip to Germany. It was suppose to be an unofficial visit and Lindbergh had no plan to meet with Third Reich officials, but he did visit airfields and factories in Bremen and Pomerania. He admired Luftwaffe technology and capabilities a bit less this time around, because he had Dutch technology as a reference. Before Lindbergh's family left Germany, Ernst Udet invited them for a private dinner. Udet tried to probe Lindbergh for the details of Dutch aviation industries, Lindbergh simply answered that by concentrating on fighters, they only had intention of self defense and preserving their neutrality. Udet then ask Lindbergh then what's the Fokker deal with Americans. "Profit, what else?" Lindbergh answered. Finally Udet asked Lindbergh that the next time Lindbergh visits the Netherlands, tell Fokker Germany wanted a similar deal. Lindbergh agree he would make a try. (References were taken from here.)
November
The Rotterdamsche Droogdok Maatschappij after two years of building and many having overcome many challenges, presented the royal Netherlands navy the first submarine that is build using design plans found in the ship library on board KNRS Orange-Nassau. The submarine which was called O-16 belonged to the new O-16 class submarines which are built for patrol of the Netherlands East Indies waters [2].
December
During one of its test the Fokker D-22 fighter is photographed by a German intelligence officer when the D-22 was parked outside its hanger and during its takeoff despite heavy security around Gilze-Rijen airforce base. These grainy pictures where later presented to Adolf Hitler an were enough evidence for him to order the SD to increase their intelligence operations in the Netherlands as he wanted to find out what was going and how the Netherlands in less than three years was able to build such an advanced fighter.
Hughes Aircraft, Curtiss-Wright Corporation and Seversky Aircraft Company merged into Hughes-Curtiss-Wright-Seversky Aircraft (usually just referred as "Hughes", and in more formal business occasion, "HCWS". Curtiss, Wright, and Seversky names were preserved out of Hughes' respect of these four aviation pioneers). Alexander P. de Seversky, Alexander Kartveli, and Donovan Berlin would remain as Hughes' employees.
By acquiring Curtiss' know how of manufacturing carrier aircraft, Hughes announced he would create a navalized H-2 and somewhat belatedly join the USN contest of procurement of first generation mono-plane carrier fighter. At that time Brewster had already made XF2A-1 and Gurmman had already made XF4F-2.
[1] The Verenigde Nederlandse Scheepvaartmaatschappij is a shipping company which was created when a study ordered by the Oversight Commission recommended a merger between the major Dutch shipping companies which were established in 1935. The companies involved in the merger where the Stoomvaart Maatschappij Nederland, Koninklijke Rotterdamsche Lloyd and Koninklijke Java-China-Paketvaart-Lijnen became the Vereenigde Nederlandsche Scheepvaartmaatschappij. The VNS is owned 50% by the Netherlands government.
[2] In there they would make a real different.

Star Trek Orange Year 1938
January
Realizing that the Oversight Commission was full of industrialists, generals, admirals, and senior civil servants (plus a Prince), they decided to bring in an intellectual. Since they were changing history they picked Johan Huizinga, Professor of General History at Leiden University.
After a general orientation, Huizinga spoke up, he said that he agreed keeping the commission Dutch for the moment but they should think long term. Take Albert Einstein for example, he deserves to be the first non-Dutch citizen to know the "Big Secret".
With the future knowledge, Einstein could completely revolutionize Modern Physic by creating a workable Unified Field Theory, thus speeding up the space age and he could be the Father of Nuclear Fusion Power. He could also be used as a special peace envoy, to defuse some of the Cold War crises. In short, Einstein would be the integral part of Project Fusion.
Then Vice-Admiral Janssen raised doubt: would Einstein completely agree on the Oversight Commission's policies? Huizinga answered that, unlike Gandhi, Einstein was not a hardline pacifist. He once lived in Switzerland, he knew that to guarantee the peace loving neutral status a nation needed to maintain a strong military. In the original timeline, he even wrote a letter to convince FDR to build A-Bombs.
The other members of the Commission were convinced, and they gave Huizinga a free hand to draw up the plan.
The Company for the Exploitation of the State Railways and the Hollands Iron Railway-Company are merged to form the Dutch Railways (English: Nederlandse Spoorwegen, NS). Alongside with the merger, the NS Class 400 (OTL NS Class 600) diesel locomotives was introduced.
February
Employees belonging to the Artillerie Inrichtingen in the presences of several high ranking royal Netherlands army officers witnessed the test fire of a towed, 12-tube, 107mm rocket launcher (OTL BM-12) called the RD-10 (RD stands for Raketlanceerder or in English Rocketlauncher) and a 105 mm field gun [15-veld] (OTL M3 light howitzer).
The 1st Regiment Parachutisten (English: 1st parachute Regiment) is formed. Attached with it is the Bataljon Parachutisten (English: Parachute Battalion) which will act as a dual elite/light infantry force for use with the royal Netherlands air force.
In the Netherlands East Indies the East Indies Light infantry Regiment which is part of the part of the 1st KNIL Infantry Division is formed. The regiment recruits the best personnel form the three KNIL Divisions and acts as a light elite force for the KNIL. From the aboriginal Dayak tribe the Dayak Scout Battalion is raised (based on OTL Sarawak Rangers/Iban Tracker of Malaya).
March
For two years, residents of the island of Texel and Den Helder noticed that there were massive construction works on the island going on, but they had no idea what was that. However, from this month, fortified works slowly took shape. Unbeknownst to them underground facilities which were also worked on where completed. Among the aforementioned residents, there were several sleeper agents from other major European Powers.
Near Marinevliegkamp 'De Mok' (English: Naval airbase 'De Mok’) the office of the Navy special operation service (Dutch: marine speciale operaties dienst, MSOD) [1] is opened. The naval airbase which primarily is used for training crew of the Netherlands Naval Aviation Service was selected to house the navy special operation service due its remote location and the new massive underground facility which was secretly built nearby for the MSOD and also as the command post for the Stelling Den Helder-Texel [2].
On 4th March, Erwin Schrödinger, who lectured at the University of Graz, received an invitation letter from retired Professor Pieter Zeeman (under suggestion of Johan Huizinga), acting as representativ on behalf of the University of Amsterdam, offered Schrödinger a position of becoming a visiting professor at the University of Amsterdam. For Schrödinger, an ardent Anti-Nazi who was watching the latest development at Austria anxiously, it was a Godsend and without much hesitation he accepted the offer. Eight days later German troops occupied Austria; annexation of the country by Germany was declared the following day (as in IOTL ).
The second O-16 class submarines build by Rotterdamsche Droogdok Maatschappij is commissioned by the royal Netherlands navy. More than ten O-16 class submarines are still under construction at various stages by Rotterdamsche Droogdok Maatschappij and K.M. De Schelde who are expecting to deliver two to three submarines per year to the royal Netherlands navy until 1941 when the last of the O-16 class submarines is expected to be finished.
The first test flight of the Fokker D-21 model B happens at Gilze-Rijen air force base [3]. The main difference between the Fokker D-21 model B and the Fokker D-21 model A are that the model B has a NVK1300 1,300hp engine instead of the original NVK1200 1,200hp engine, improved protection, two pieces bubble canopy (like those on OTL P-47 or F8F), wing mounted .50 machines guns which could be upgraded into 20mm cannons (based on OTL Ho-5 cannon, it was also developed from the .50 Browning machine gun, thus simplify logistic) and six hard points for Mk 1 unguided air-to-ground rockets. As in the "A" model, the center-line hard point could either carry a 250kg bomb or a drop tank.
April
Spyker Cars, a company brought back from being nonexistent since 1926 by the president-directeur of DAF Wim van Doorne (founder of DAF) and a member of the Oversight Commission, introduces its first race car called the Spyker R10 ''Oranje bliksem'' (English: orange lightning) at the recently opened Zandvoort race Circuit in 1936. The intention of Spyker Cars is to compete in the 1939 European Drivers' Championship with the Spyker R10. Also, at the end of last year, Wim van Doorne quietly bought Duesenberg Automobile & Motors Company, Inc. in the United States through a Dutch American as proxy as he was planning to adapt the General Motors' business model of processing many sub-brands in the Post War years.
A Fokker F25 four-engine propeller-driven airplane [4] taking off from Schiphol airport conducts its first successful flight.
The Ministry of Transport and Water Management (Dutch: ministerie van Verkeer en Waterstaat) approves KLM's request to order 12 Fokker F25 long-distance aircraft and 8 Fokker F24s (OTL DC-5) as replacements for the airline's DC-2s and DC-3s.
Helmed by rear admiral Doorman himself the flagship of the royal Netherlands space force KNRS Orange-Nassau [6] lands at a cleared site near the town of Kajana in Suriname[5].
The royal Netherlands military intelligence service (Dutch: Koninklijke Nederlandse Militaire Inlichtingen Dienst, MID) estimates that more than 89 German Sicherheitsdienst (English: Security Service) and Abwehr agents (of which more than 46 former Germans now have Dutch citizenship) are operating in the Netherlands and who are being tracked and followed by agents belonging to the MID. Among these 89 there are several high ranking officials [7] working at the German embassy in De Haag, but as they have diplomatic immunity in most cases and the MID does not want them to find out that they are being watched they are for the moment left alone.
On April 3rd in Antwerp, Belgium the Netherlands wins over Belgium with 1-1 (as in IOTL) in the 1938 FIFA World Cup qualification and with it qualifies itself together with Belgium for the 1938 FIFA World Cup which will be held in France from June 4th to June 19th.
The second battalion of the Korps Speciale Troepen (KST) receives its colors on April 1938. The 2nd KST battalion like the 1st KST battalion is in public outfitted with weapons like the K-36 Carbine and the MG-37 machine gun, but when the Korps Speciale Troepen and even the royal Netherlands marines operate under the command of the royal Netherlands space force they are equipped with Type 3 phaser rifles, type 2 hand held phasers, several plasma grenades and a combadge.
May
The Military Aviation of the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army (Dutch: Militaire Luchtvaart van het Koninklijk Nederlands-Indisch Leger) receive its first batch of Fokker D-21 model B fighters which is being produced by a new branch of Koninklijke Nederlandse Vliegtuigenfabriek Fokker (English: royal Netherlands aircraft company Fokker or for short Fokker) which is called Fokker Vliegtuigenfabriek Oost Indie (English: Fokker aircraft company East Indies). An assembly line for the D-22 is also being build and is expected to begin building it first D-22s in the late 1939.
The Dutch Minister of Justice calls dissents fleeing Nazi-Germany “refugees in need of a home".
The SS Nieuw Amsterdam[8], owned by Netherlands-America Steamship Company (Dutch: Nederlandsch-Amerikaansche Stoomvaart Maatschappij) is with 38,000 tones the largest passenger liner constructed in the Netherlands up to this point and sets out on her maiden voyage to New York. With its super Advanced fluid dynamic design and machinery (thanks to KNRS Orange-Nassau Holodeck), it can attain an average speed of 32 knots, which it did during the westbound voyage and thus won the Blue Ribbon [9].
The Finnish air force, which already operates the Fokker D.10, Fokker CVEs and the Fokker CVD thanks to its connections with Fokker, starts to seek a new generation fighter. By the summer of 1936, they became aware of the new D21 model A fighter and decided to send a delegation to the Netherlands to check it out. A senior Finnish colonel flew the prototype and was amazed by its superb performance, but since the D21 was a brand new and cutting edge fighter it was very expensive. So at the end, among all other choices (Gloster Gladiator, North American NA-50A, Vought V-143, Dewoitine 510, Morane-Saulnier 405 and PZL P-24), the Finnish air force choose the PZL P-24 for its affordability. Later that Finnish air force colonel's report on the excellent D21 began circulating across the European aviation circle, at the end Lindbergh got his hand on the report and decided to visit the Netherlands for himself.
The Finnish air force watched the Spanish Civil War unfold closely. They knew that the Nationalists' Messerschmitt Bf-109s outclassed the Republicans' Soviet build Polikarpov I-15s and I-16s. They feared that the Soviet Union would create a new generation type of fighter and their PZL P-24 would soon be obsolete. They also were aware that the Fokker D21 model A in service with the royal Netherlands air force was being phased out in favor of the Fokker D21 model B and the D22. This time both side managed to work out an deal and Finland became the first export customer for the Fokker D21 when they signed a deal for 21 Fokker D21 model F fighter planes [10] to be built by Fokker and a license right [11] to have them produced them in Finland by Finnish State Aircraft Factory (Finnish: Valtion Lentokonetehdas).
June
Earlier of the month, Hughes XFH-1 [5] Sea Falcon, the navalized version of the P-40A Falcon, conducted a successful carrier landing and takeoff test from the USS Saratoga. The Captain of the Saratoga at the time was John H. Towers, a naval aviation pioneer himself, and Howard Hughes conducted some of the carrier flight tests by themselves, both became close friend soon afterward. The overall performance of the XFH-1 was superior to the Brewster XF2A-1 and Gurmman XF4F-2. Later that month the United states navy placed an order of 54 production model of the Hughes FH-1s, but the Department of War feared Hughes would soon attain a near monopoly status of American fighters manufacturing. Therefore they gave Brewster and Gurmman a second chance to develop an improved version of their prototypes (XF2A-2 and XF4F-3).
From June 4th to June 19th the 1938 World Cup was held in France. The Netherlands facing 1934 runner-up Czechoslovakia in Le Havre managed to pull off the first major upset at World Cup tournament history, beating them 1-0. Czechoslovakian superstar keeper František Plánička reacted a half second late, and failed to save a fierce 'Bombenschuss' shot from the 18-year-old Bertus de Harder late in the game. But on June 12th they lost the quarter-finals against Brazil with 3-1 (de Harder scored another goal but Leônidas da Silva scored a hattrick), and thus ended the Netherlands participation in the World Cup. The Dutch East Indies, which managed to qualify automatically due to Japan withdrawing, was defeated by Hungary in the first round when it lost with 6-0. In the end the finals where held on June 19th in Paris between Italy and Hungary with Italy winning the world cup after managing to defeat Hungary with 4-2.
The royal Netherlands air force and the royal Netherlands army creates the air defense command (Dutch: Commando Luchtverdediging) which will be in charge of defending the Netherlands airspace. The army contributions to the command are: Brigade Luchtdoelartillerie (English: anti-air brigade) and the 3e Regiment genietroepen (English: 3rd regiment engineers) who are in charge of the search lights. The air force contributions to the air defense command are: radar stations Den Helder and Nieuw-Milligen and fighter planes operating out of Ypenburg air base, Gilze-Rijen air base, Leeuwarden air base and Woensdrecht air base. These air bases, which have been modernized into modern air bases from 1935 onwards, are part of the fighter group which is made up of the 1st to 8th Jachtvliegtuig Afdelingen (which can be compared to squadrons).
The flagship of the royal Netherlands space force KNRS Orange-Nassau takes off from the cleared site near the town of Kajana in Suriname where she spend a month on the ground for routine maintenance and unloading and loading of new supplies which were too big to be beamed on board or transported by a shuttle.
July
Howard Hughes with his flight crew which was made up of Amelia Earhart (co-pilot), Thomas Thurlow (navigator), Edward Lund (flight engineer), Richard Stoddard (radio operator) and Harry Connor (backup pilot) set another record by completing a flight around the world in just 85 hours (3 days, 13 hours), beating the previous record by more than 7 hours. Taking off from Amsterdam, they continued to Omsk, Fairbanks, New York City and returned to Amsterdam. For this flight they flew the prototype of the Fokker F25 outfitted with the latest radio and navigational Equipment. Within the pressurized cabin were VIP passenger who represented Air France, Imperial Airways, KLM, Northwest Airways, Pan Am, TWA, and United Airlines. There were also three stewardesses, Anthony Fokker and Donald Wills Douglas, Sr. on the plane. The feat caused another worldwide sensation. But due to the high price tag and the world still in economic depression, all aforementioned airlines above only placed orders for a handful of planes each.
With the Sudeten Crisis continue to be brewing, Lindbergh was invited to examining the air forces of Czechoslovakia and Russia, but was unimpressed in comparison to what he had seen in Germany and the Netherlands. After his visit to the Czechoslovakia and the Soviet Union, Lindbergh on his way back home made a brief stopover at the Netherlands where he was given a detailed intelligence report of the true strength of the Luftwaffe by the director of the MID, showing it was not as strong as Lindbergh thought [13].
“Germany now has the means of destroying Prague if she wishes to do so, even though the Czechs posess excellent fortification at Sudeten, but without air superiority Germany will finally crack the Czechs’ defences and overrun the nation," Lindbergh told Western journalists. “I am convinced that there are two options for the United Kingdom and France: either when German invades Czechoslovakia they can take the window of opportunity to occupy the Rhineland, forcing Germany to back Down, because when Germany finishes off Czechoslovakia, it will be too late; or they can permit Germany’s eastward expansion, buying more time to strengthen their own defenses." Privately he told politicians from the United Kingdom and France that he preferred the later option [14].
August
The first of four Tromp-class cruisers is commissioned as HNLMS Tromp and enters into service with the royal Netherlands navy. HNLMS Tromp is outfitted with every modern weapon system that could be built with the current means available.
Finland buys 12 DAF M.35 armored cars from the Netherlands which are to be assigned to the armored unit of the Ratsuväkiprikaati (English: Cavalry Brigade).
The German government decrees that all Jews must add Israel (for a Jewish male) or Sara (for a Jewish female) to their first names for simplifying the identification work. It went into effect on 1st January, 1939.
The royal Netherlands army, 10e Regiment Artillerie (English: 10th Artillery Regiment) becomes the first artillery regiment to field the RD-10 12-tube 107mm rocket launcher (OTL BM-12), and the [15-veld] 105 mm field gun (OTL M3 light howitzer).
September
On 1st September, Jacqueline Cochran won the Bendix Trophy Race with a specially modified Hughes H-2B, setting up a new time and average speed (first one to break the 300mph barrier) record for the race.
O-16 class submarine HNLMS O-18, the third of her class is commissioned by the royal Netherlands navy.
Passenger liner MS Oranje is commissioned by the Verenigde Nederlandse Scheepvaartmaatschappij (English: United Netherlands shipping company, VNS) and built by Nederlandsche Dok en Scheepsbouw Maatschappij (the main passenger ship builder in the Netherlands). The tonnage of MS Oranje was 28,000 GRT and her maximum speed was 30 knots. She was used in the scheduled route to the Netherlands East Indies.
As tension over Czechoslovakia mount, Artillerie Inrichtingen began mass-production of all kinds of new weapons they had designed since 1936, and began issuing them to the regular army.
The Sudeten Crisis as it was called ended with the Munich agreement which was signed on September 30th 1938 (as in IOTL). But the Oversight Commission knew that the illusion of "peace for our time" would not last for long and decided that the Netherlands would gear up for the coming war.
October
Aviolanda, a small aircraft manufacturer in the Netherlands which produces the Aviolanda Av-37 flying boat [15] is taken over by Koninklijke Nederlandse Vliegtuigenfabriek Fokker (English: royal Netherlands aircraft company Fokker or for short Fokker) and is renamed Fokker-Aviolanda.
The second Tromp class cruisers HNLMS Jacob van Heemskerck is commissioned. Both Tromp-class cruisers will be deployed with the Netherlands East Indies naval squadron which now includes HNLMS De Ruyter, HNLMS Java and HNLMS Sumatra.
In early October 1938 the Lindbergh’s family settled in France. After the Munich Agreement, Lindbergh became dismayed by the general French publics "business as usual" attitude and their unwillingness to buy precious time to rearm.
Charles and Anne decided to find a new home in either Germany or the Netherlands. While Anne began searching for a new home in Germany, Charles Lindbergh was invited to tour several German factories in Magdeburg and Dessau. Several weeks later Lindbergh along with the American Ambassador Hugh Wilson attended an official state dinner with Hermann Göring, Ernst Heinkel, Adolf Baeumker, Dr. Willy Messerschmitt and a number of other Nazi officials. During the dinner, Lindbergh and Wilson were surprised when Göring awards Lindbergh the Verdienstkreuz Deutscher Adler, or Service Cross of the German Eagle. Göring said it was presented to Lindbergh “by order of the Führer”. Lindbergh didn't think to much of the award, which previously had been given to both Henry Ford and the French Ambassador; he simply saw it as another foreign country commendation for his trans-Atlantic flight.
Also at the dinner Lindbergh finally told Göring that the Netherlands reply of Germany offer to purchase a license to produce the Fokker D21 (or perhaps even D22): the Netherlands was only willing to export the D21 and sell the production licence to Finland and the United State because they were neutral countries, doing the same thing to other major European powers was simply too politically sensitive. If Britain, France, Italy or the Soviet Union made the same offer they would likewise be turned down. Unwilling to give up, Göring made another offer; he said Lufthansa was interested in the F25 and wanted to place orders. He asked Lindbergh to act as messenger one more time.
On 22nd October, the last Non-championship Grands Prix took place at Donington, thus formally ending the 1938 Grand Prix season. Both Dutch drivers Harry Herkuleyns and Eddie Hertzberger (he would delay his retirement for one year ITTL in order to drive for the Spyker team) didn't get podium finish for the season (but went close on three occasions), but as a novice team their performance impressed the other teams and the media with their new orange cars. One month before, when the chance of war between Britain and German was looming, Spyker lured Richard Seaman away from Mercedes-Benz team by demonstrating a new prototype race car which was a little better than Mercedes and Auto Union's counterpart [16]. He would drive for the Spyker team next season as did Prince Bira of Siam.
Charles and Anne Lindbergh then visited the Netherlands again. Charles was invited by Anthony Fokker to travel with him to New York for some "important business matters". After having reached New York they both meet with James H. "Dutch" Kindelberger, president and general manager of North American Aviation, Paul G. Hoffman, vice president of Chrysler, Alvan Macauley, president of Packard Motor Company, Henry J. Kaiser and Vannevar Bush. They were told that some of the top companies in the Netherlands wanted to make a deals with them, just like what Fokker did with Hughes at 1936 [17]. If they were interested, they should visit the Netherlands on February next year, a KLM F25 charter flight would be waiting for them at New York City.
Lindbergh’s family returns to France, undecided whether to settle in the Berlin suburb of Wannsee or in Haarlem.
November
On 9th November, Ernst vom Rath, a diplomat working at the German embassy in Paris was assassinated by a 17-year-old Polish Jewish youth Herschel Grynszpan. Back in Germany, a large scale program against Jews broke out throughout Nazi Germany, it would later become known as the "Night of Broken Glass". Over 1,000 synagogues were burned, and over 7,000 Jewish businesses where destroyed or damaged. At least 91 Jews were killed in the attacks and a further 30,000 arrested and put in concentration camps.
The program caused an international outrage. Charles Lindbergh was also shocked and was under pressure to return his medal to Germany, but he declined to do so. Later he explained, "It seems to me that the returning of decorations, which were given in times of peace and as a gesture of friendship, can have no constructive effect. If I were to return the German medal, it seems to me that it would be an unnecessary insult. Even if war develops between us, I can see no gain in indulging in a spitting contest before that war begins." Nonetheless, Lindbergh’s family made up their mind and moved to the Netherlands.
KNRS Maas one of the two class-2 shuttles, or also known as Maas-class shuttles [18], on November 17th 1938 lands on the moon. While none of its crew leaves the shuttles the landing is still a great leap for the royal Netherlands space force which previous was only allowed to circled the moon due to orders from rear admiral Doorman, who wanted the royal Netherlands space force to concentrate its attention in helping strengthen the kingdom defenses.
December
At the headquarters of the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army located in the city of Bandung the installing of a transporter station begins which when completed will allow people to be transported from the Netherlands East Indies to the Netherlands or back. A transporter station in Paramaribo, Suriname is also in the planning.
The third O-16 class submarine HNLMS O-19 is commissioned by the royal Netherlands navy.
[1] The navy special operation service is in reality the cover for the headquarters of the royal Netherlands space force. MSOD, which is located in a underground facility located near naval airbase De Mok, is equipped with an advance communications center and one workable transporter station installed allowing the KNRS Orange-Nassau which is still orbiting Earth to be relieved somewhat of its duties.
[2] The Stelling Den Helder-Texel is responsible for the defense of Den Helder, the northern region of the province Noord-Holland, some of the Wadden islands and the Afsluitdijk. The stelling includes both army and naval units. The commander of the stelling is the naval commander while the army provides the infantry for the stelling and some of the coastal artillery.
[3] Gilze-Rijen Air Base is the main testing site of the royal Netherlands air force.
[4] The Fokker F25 is based on OTL DC-4 but instead of using 4 × Pratt & Whitney R-2000 radial engines, 1,450 each it has 4 × N.V. Koolhoven NVK1500 1,500hp engines and a pressurized cabin, beating Boeing Model 307 Stratoliner in being the first commercial transport aircraft which is equipped with a pressurized cabin.
[5] KNRS Orange-Nassau which is an improved Intrepid-class starship is capable of atmospheric entry and planetary landing as it is equipped with antigravity generators as well as impulse and lifters strategically placed at the mass and stress points on the bottom portion of the secondary hull.
[6] The cleared site near the near the town of Kajana in Suriname is current only a cleared strip of land where the KNRS Orange-Nassau can land and consist at the current moment of several buildings for use by the royal Netherlands space force personal already working there, building crews who are working at the site and also a barrack for the 3rd company of the 1st KST battalion who is assigned for security.
[7] Some of the several high ranking officials are: military attaché Oberstleutnant Otzen, Luftwaffe attaché Generalleutnant Wenninger, intelligence-attaché Oberstleutnant Schulze-Bernett and the head of the (politic) Reichdeutsche Gemeinschaft Butting.
[8] SS Nieuw Amsterdam like all Netherlands ocean liners who have entered into service after 1935 by Netherlands law have provisions for possible war use incorporated in her design.
[9] The Blue Ribbon is an unofficial accolade given to the passenger liner crossing the Atlantic Ocean in regular service with the highest speed record. SS Nieuw Amsterdam during her westbound voyage managed to reach a speed of 31 knots thus beating the French Line Compagnie Générale Transatlantique owned SS Normandie which managed to get 30.58 knots the year ago.
[10] The Fokker D21 model F (F stands for Finland) is based on the model A which the royal Netherlands air force is slowly phasing out in favor of the Fokker D21 Model B and the more advance Fokker D22 fighter plane. Therefore the price of an A model has become more affordable. Finnish PZL P-24s still in service will be sold to Denmark and Norway.
[11] The Netherlands in return for allowing Finland to licenses produce the Fokker D21 model F will receive a large number of Suomi KP/-31 submachine guns, the right to produce them under licenses by Artillerie Inrichtingen where it is renamed the MP31 (MP means machine pistol) and also a large shipment of raw material to be delivered by Finland as payment for the licenses rights.
[12] McDonnell Aircraft would use designations of FN, F2N, F3N, and F4N instead of OTL FH, F2H, F3H, and F4H in the future.
[13] Earlier Johan Huizinga argued with the rest of the Commission members that if someday the public found out the Netherlands did nothing despite foreknowledge during Sudeten Crisis, there would be serious political backlash in the distant future and could destabilize the Earth Federation. While the coup d'etat plan was rejected out of hand for sheer riskiness and probable situation of replacing Nazi Germany with and saner Militarist Germany, thus merely delay the outbreak of the War and made it more unpredictable. Finally a compromise plan was made by letting Lindbergh knew the true strength of Luftwaffe, and up to the politicians of the United Kingdom and France to decide.
[14] ITTL Lindbergh was still a staunch Anticommunist and he wished that the Nazis and the communist to be locked in perceptual mortal combat in the east. Historians would not be kind on him at this count.
[15] The Aviolanda Av-37 flying boat is the OTL Dornier Do-24 flying boat of which the Netherlands Naval Aviation Service has ordered as many of 90 of for use in the Dutch East Indies. It is fitted with three NVK 1200 engine which have better performance than the German counterpart. The defensive armaments of the Av-37 consist of three Alkan gun turrets, each equipped with a Browning 12.7 mm machinegun. Production of the Av-37 has been underway since 1937.
[16] Called the Spyker R20 which is based on OTL Alfa Romeo 159 Alfetta.
[17] The Anthony Fokker and Charles Lindbergh trip was a idea from the Oversight Commission which wants to establish a international conference at which diplomats, industrialists, intellectuals, politicians and scientists from democratic countries in Europe and the United States will be brought together in order to foster better cooperation on political, economic, and defense issues. The conference would take place at the hotel Huis ter Duin in Noordwijk.
[18] KNRS Orange-Nassau carries two class-2 shuttles which are named KNRS Maas and KNRS Marowijne and one aeroshuttle which is embedded in the saucer underside of KNRS Orange-Nassau and which is called KNRS Huygen.

Star Trek Orange Year 1939
January 1st
"Ever wanted to know the true secret of the universe? If so, visit the Palace privately tomorrow." Prince Bernhard whispered to Albert Einstein and Erwin Schrödinger at the midnight New Year celebration. Days before, Schrödinger hosted an International physics academic conference, with great success. Both Einstein and Schrödinger were curious and decided to accept the invitation.
January 2nd
Albert Einstein and Schrödinger visit Amsterdam's Royal Palace for lunch with Prince Bernhard. After that, Prince Bernhard led them to a room, within he presented them an agreement: they would agree to total secrecy, otherwise they should leave at once. Prince Bernhard explains to them that, what he said at midnight was not a joke, if you sign, both of you will be remembered as the greatest physicists ever in human history, and the current scientific progress will enjoy a quantum leap. For Einstein and Schrödinger the temptations were too great to resist, they signed the agreement and shortly afterward were beamed up to KNRS Orange-Nassau where they met the rest of Oversight Commission. Einstein and Schrödinger were awestruck. After they were given a briefing, they raised doubt of giving the Nazis a free hand at Europe and they thought the "Project Bewaker" was too indirect. Johan Huizinga argued that without World War Two Nazism would not be totally discredited and altering the general historical trend might bring us "the devil we don't know".
Schrödinger then replied, "Nazism was totally discredited at the price of tens of millions of death and a devastated and divided Europe, the cost was simply too high. The Nazis gambled a great deal in this year and next year, if your government did differently, they could easily trip the scale, and by doing so would give the Netherlands a great deal of international prestige." He then explain what should be done differently, the rest of the Commission were convinced. Einstein and Schrödinger agreed to join the Commission. They would at first worked on the Theory on peaceful use of Nuclear Fusion Power and then on the Unified Field Theory. Both theories would require writting the future Physics in modern Physics terms, the translation works won't be easy and would take a long time.
Later that month, Einstein resigned from Princeton and took the post of Visiting Professor of Physics at Leiden University.
January 12th
Artillerie Inrichtingen began mass production of MP-39, an improved version of MP-31 sub-machine gun, which was cheaper to produce but having a higher rate of fire and also being a bit more accurate.
January 18th
Koolhoven's production of F.K.58 fighter was stalled by insufficient supply of French-supplied engines and instruments. Koolhoven proposed to the French government an F.K.58B model where surplus NVK1200 engine and Dutch instruments was used instead. The later had no other alternative and as such agreed.
January 23rd
Admiral Wilhelm Canaris, the head of the German military intelligence service leaks misinformation which states that Germany plans to invade the Netherlands in February with the aim of using their air force bases to launch a strategic bombing offensive against Great Britain. However its counterpart in the Netherlands, the military intelligence service knows that it is misinformation and ignore it, but they would take advantage of this misinformation in the near future. The British however don’t know that it is German misinformation and begins a major shift in their policies towards Europe.
January 27th
Adolf Hitler orders Plan Z, a 5-year naval expansion program intended to provide for a huge German fleet capable of crushing the Royal Navy by 1944. The Kriegsmarine is given the first priority on the allotment of German economic resources.
February 1st
//Groupe de chasse// I/5 became the first fighter group of Armée de l'Air to be fully equip with Hughes H-2A Fighters (export version of P-40A, armed with six 7.5mm machine guns instead). Export of Hughes H-2A was smoother tham OTL Crutiss Hawk H-75, because H-2A used assembly line technique to produce, thus satisfying both the USAAC and the Armée de l'Air's orders.
February 2nd
Hungary joins the Anti-Comintern Pact.
February 3rd
HNLMS Gerard Callenburgh, lead ship of the Gerard Callenburgh-class destroyer [1] is commissioned by the royal Netherlands navy. Both the Gerard Callenburgh-class and the O-16 class submarines possesses the same type of sonars. The Gerard Callenburgh-class will also be the first naval vessel equipped with the first anti-submarine rocket mortar named "Zeekwal" (Jellyfish, based on OTL 1960's Soviet RBU-1000 Smerch-3, which had longer range and heaver warhead then OTL Allies' "Hedgehog", "Squid", and "Limbo" counterpart.)
February 6th
British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain states in the House of Commons that any German attack on France will be automatically considered an attack on Britain.
February 14th
Bismarck-class battleship, KMS Bismarck is launched in Germany.
February 15th
Prime Minister of the Netherlands Hendrikus Colijn together with Queen Wilhelmina, her daughter crown princess Juliana and her husband prince Bernhard begin their visit to the Dutch East Indies traveling on a special VIP transport version of the Fokker F25. They will also make a brief stopover and state visit in Tehran, Imperial State of Persia (Iran).
February 19th
A day after the Prime Minister and Royal Family arrival in Batavia, they took part of the Lunar New Year celebration at Chinatown. Queen Wilhelmina made an important speech there. The queen said that while we celebrated Lunar New Year here in the Dutch East Indies, the Netherlands and her colonies enjoy an economic boom in the recent years and they would maintain a policy of strict neutrality. "However," she said, "we must not forgot the plight of less fortunate people in other corners of the World." She announced a settlement project at Bail Island for 100,000 Jewish Refugees. She also proclaimed that the Royal Family would make a major donation to a Chinese Refugees Relief Fund at Batavia, much to the delight of the 1,5 million ethnic Chinese living in the Dutch East Indies. The political message of the speech was all too clear.
On the same day, back in Amsterdam, another KLM Fokker F25 charter flight arrived among predawn darkness. The passengers included Charles Lindbergh, James H. "Dutch" Kindelberger (president and general manager of North American Aviation), Alvan Macauley (president of Packard Motor Company), Paul G. Hoffman (vice president of Chrysler), Henry J. Kaiser (founder of Kaiser Shipbuilding Company), Eugene Grace (president of Bethlehem Steel Corporation), Robert H. Goddard and Vannevar Bush. They were greeted by Anthony Fokker, Army attaché and the naval attaché of the American embassy to the Netherlands and much to the surprised to them, Erwin Schrödinger and Albert Einstein. They were all sent to the hotel Huis ter Duin in Noordwijk. They were given a briefing there: Recently Germany began raising the issue of Danzig and the Polish Corridor, the Netherlands government feared another crisis was looming and this time would be more likely to leading into War. The Netherlands was enjoying an innovation boom in recent years, but due to their vulnerable geographic location, the Netherlands government wanted to transfer the technical know-how to a major democratic power. The United States was chosen because they would remain neutral for the foreseeable time, but also because they would also serve as the "Arsenal of Democracy". After the explanation a newsreel on what kind of technologies would be transferred was shown to them and finally, they were told that the technical transfer would come at a price; there would be negotiations after they saw the demonstration of the real objects.

In the negotiations that followed, North American Aviation bought the licenses to produce the Fokker D-22 fighter; Packard obtain the licenses of production for the DAF 1600 engine; Chrysler got the licenses to produce the DAF Jeep, truck, T-40 tank, T-17 tank destroyer and the M.39 armored car; while Kaiser Shipbuilding Company would concentrated on building modular cargo ships, and Bethlehem Steel Corporation got the right to build new generation of anti-aircraft light cruisers and fleet destroyers, Goddard obtain all patent rights for rocket related weapons and Bush likewise got the same right for the radar, proximity fuse and sonar.

The first prototype of the Fokker T-5 twin-engine bomber [6] made its first flight from Tjililitan airfield, Batavia [7]. The T-5 which can be used for dive-bombing, torpedo-bombing, level-bombing, skip-bombing and if modified for ASW duties is powered by a pair of NVK 1500 engines and armed with two 12.7mm machine guns (one forward-firing at nose cone bombardier/navigator position, another one at tail gunner dorsal position) and carries a payload of some 1,000kg of bombs load or one Shark Mk.1 torpedo (based on OTL American Mark 13 Mod 10 torpedo) or in the ASW mission, one 500kg Piranha Mk.1 homing torpedo (based on American Mark 34 torpedo) and 500 kg of depth charges. The T-5 however is only going to be produced in the Netherlands East Indies because it looks too much as the German produced Junkers Ju-88 and because the deployment of a modern bomber at the Netherlands would not fit in the neutrality policy the Netherlands has adopted with defence only.
The 1939 Grand Prix season informally began with the Non-championship Grands Prix at Pau, France. With Richard Seaman joining Spyker team last year, worsening of Anglo-German relations, gathering storm of war and the Queen speech at Batavia, the short season of 1939 would be remembered as the most politicized in auto racing history. Last year Seaman was the media darling in Germany, but this year he would be vilified as a "traitor" by the Nazis propaganda machine.
Pau Grand Prix would remember as intense three horse race between Hermann Lang and Manfred von Brauchitsch from Mercedes, and Richard Seaman from Spyker with Lang emerging as the winner by a small margin.

Adolf Hitler orders the German military to start planning for Fall Weiss which is the code name for the invasion of Poland. Adolf Hitler however is unaware that in the Netherlands the Oversight Commission had decided after running all possible scenarios onboard the holodecks onboard KNRS Orange-Nassau that they had waited long enough and that they have to do something. Some members of the Oversight Commission wanted the Netherlands to help the Anti-Nazis element within the German government and military in removing Hitler from power and bring a New Germany in the Netherlands sphere of influence while others argued of beaming everybody who was part of Hitler inner circle into space. The chief of MID however had reservation on both ideas, while the Abwehr (German intelligence service) was steadfastly Anti-Nazis, most Prussian Generals at the time wanted at least redrawn the eastern border back to 1914, at most even wanted to annex Poland out right. They would only be interested in disposing the Nazis, if Germany could not win a fast and cheap victory and the military situation went very wrong. Finally the Oversight Commission agreed on making an early contact with the Abwehr via the MID. At the same time, an unofficial plan was drafted to improve the defenses of Poland.

Howard Hughes, owner of Hughes Aircraft Company, was dismayed when he was informed that the production right of Fokker D22 had fallen into the hands of North American Aviation, his main rival and that he was not invited to the February meeting in the Netherlands. As a result he summoned his best designers (Glenn Odekirk, Alexander P. de Seversky, Alexander Kartveli, and Donovan Berlin) to a meeting. They agreed that an improved fighter was needed which would be as good as the Fokker D22. They came to a short term solution which would result in the H-2B (a P-40B, powered by a Pratt & Whitney R-2800-1 Double Wasp [8], and armed with six 12.7mm machine guns) and to start a long term project which would be the genesis of the H-3, or P-42 Thunderbolt.

In Berlin, Colonel Hans Oster, an officer working for the Abwehr meets with his friend; the Netherlands military attaché, Major Sas (who also works for the MID) who informs his friend that the Netherlands and Germany have maintained a friendly relation for a long time. But the rise of Nazis, their bigot rhetoric, their expansionism, and finally the rumor of invasion of the Netherlands earlier that year was disturbing. Oster was told that the Netherlands was unlike Czechoslovakia, as he said "we will fight till the bitter end, and every square meter of Dutch soil will be paid with German blood and lives". Also the MID was aware that there were Anti-Nazis element within Germany and especially the Abwehr. The Netherlands was willing to help Germany remove Hitler thanks to it having some vital resources available to them.
Later that day Colonel Oster had a meeting with Admiral Wilhelm Canaris (Chief of the Abwehr) and informed him about the Netherlands suggestion to remove Hitler. Admiral Wilhelm Canaris agreed to meet with major Sas to hear his offer.

April 20th
Admiral Wilhelm Canaris meets with resigned Generaloberst Beck, General Halder, Dr. Hjalmar Schacht, Carl Goerdeler and Colonel Oster where he tells him that the Netherlands, a country they always have suggested is hiding something from the world, has the means to remove Hitler from power and that they only have to say yes and the Netherlands will support them.
While Halder agreed that he was concerned by Hitler's "increasing adventurism", he disagreed to the idea of launching a coup d'etat: first of all, General Erich Ludendorff had launched the Kaiserschlacht in March 1918, which led directly to Germany's defeat in November 1918, yet most people in Germany still consider Ludendorff one of Germany's greatest heroes. By contrast, the men who staged the November Revolution and signed the armistice that took Germany out of a losing war were hated all over the Reich as the "November Criminals". Even if Hitler were to launch an invasion of France that would fail, most people would still support Hitler, just as the failure of the Kaiserschlacht had failed to hurt Ludendorff's reputation as it should have, so the Army could do nothing to overthrow Hitler until the unlikely event that his prestige was badly damaged. Until Hitler was discredited, anyone who acted against him to end the war would be considered a "new November Criminal". Secondary, he still viewed Hitler as a great leader, and there was nobody to replace him. Furthermore, most of the younger officers in the Army were fanatical National Socialists who would not join the putsch. In addition, Halder believed, Hitler deserved "a last chance to deliver the German people from the slavery of English capitalism". Finally, "one does not rebel when face to face with the enemy".
The group eventually decided after several long hours of discussions that the putsch plan would be only used as the last resort, when desperate situation arise, they would meet again for serious planning.

A secret Netherlands military delegation arrived in the Polish capitol of Warsaw where they offered a delegation of the Polish military and government a secret shipment and a license to produce the Mk.I AT Granaat [10], a shaped charge anti-tank grenade. The delegation also advised the Polish Army that the mobilization should be started ASAP; instead for forward defense, defense in depth was more advisable; finally, improvised incendiary bombs would be an excellent anti-tank weapon, especially at urban fighting. Despite the Netherlands military delegation advice the Polish delegation decided to reject the first two advices for political reasons.
[1] The Gerard Callenburgh-class possesses the same radar and dual propose AA guns system winch are used onboard the De Ruyter- class light cruiser and Tromp- class light cruisers. [2] The T-40 is based on the OTL Israeli design M-50 Super Sherman. The PAG-39 (Pantser Afweer Geschut) anti-tank gun can fire both HEAT and Sabot rounds. [3] Based on OTL Hetzer but in fact looks more look like the post war Swiss Army G-13, but slightly larger and with a better engine. The PAG-38 main gun was a compact version of PAG-39 gun. [4] Based on OTL M38 Wolfhound, also carry the PAG-38 gun. [5] O-16 class submarine would be off limits to them though. [6] That was a early prototype, which was without an all moveable tail, unlike the production model and unbeknownst to Americans. [7] The T-5 looks like an OTL Yokosuka P1Y, but with a bubble canopy and transparent nose cone. [8] ITTL license built version of NVK 1500 engine, which would speed up the R&D of Double Wasp series as a result. [9] Under the cover of a completely private venture.
