These Macabre Guillotine Earrings Were All the Rage During France’s “Reign of Terror”

Very unexpected finding, but disturbing to me nonetheless. Although I don't know too much about the French Revolution at the moment, I really wonder if the people there must've been indoctrinated and/or demented in their reverence for the guillotine and its surreal inclusion in everyday life, as the article put it.

I bet that many a later tyrannical regime had and glorified their own equivalents to this 18h Century execution machine. Many of them were every bit as mad and destructive as Robespierre & Company--and far, far worse.
