As you say interesting. Shows that if someone less insane and barbaric than the Nazis had invaded the USSR in 1941 they could have got a lot more support from the locals. I knew about the forest brothers and the Ukrainian resistance as well as thinks like the deportations from Crimean and the Caucasus region but not about inside 'Russia' itself. Wonder if there were other cases of local resistance to Soviet rule that we haven't heard about.
The suggestion of Beria supporting, presumably with some backing from Stalin himself, the idea of the Baltic states becoming 'independent' satellites is a possibility but the reason they deported people from the Pskov region may be simply because they were geographically close to the forest brothers and possibly working with them and the chance of 'contamination' was probably seen as too great.

I think it's very plausible that there were resistance cells that we don't know about - the Stalinist terror organization was efficient.
