Lots of real estate. Most of it outside the Arctic Circle.
Aliens invading Earth in Doctor Who seem to prefer Wales and London, however.

That's probably because the series is largely produced in Wales [and Touchwood was centred on Cardiff] and the political centre of the country is London.

Overall I think we could be somewhat bias in the west in that since the US is where the biggest market for movies and assorted merchandise then its where most such films would be made and also if you have an alien invasion it would be most likely to include if not be centred on attacks on the US. Since the bulk of the audience would relate more to attacks on their homelands
Similarly you have in many books which have a world-wide invasion a concentration on the US because that's where the authors and most of the expected audience are and also events in the US, as the most powerful state for most of the last century, will be important in conflict elsewhere. For instance in the Posleen series which prompted a number of novels on the AH site ~15 years back and in assorted Tuttledove stories sent in the last century or so, most famously the Worldwar series.

Very true. Long time since I read any of the books and had drafts for a TL with the defence of Britain based on the universe but their very, very nasty. Basically designed as killing machines and they see all other life forms, including intelligent ones, as food.

I must admit, although I nowadays tend more to agree with his ideas on more limited deployment of nukes, which I remember disagreeing with him at the time, I had a lot of concerns about his strategy and tactics for defending Britain. Would have used a drastically different approach, hence the draft TL I drew up, but like all the others never actually posted! Also I found his retreat to the north and successful last stand along Hadrian's Wall rather unrealistic.
Definitely wouldn't have drawn up plans for removing most of the population into upland areas as wastes a massive amount of resources plus Britain doesn't really have that much high ground. More concentrating into main urban areas with overlapping zone of control in terms of firepower. Using thick but 'soft' walls backed by massive firepower, largely indirect as from what I recall their weaponry was virtually all direct fire. With also powerful AA defenses in case they do try one of their rare uses of aircraft to move forces about as they virtually always stick mainly on the ground once landed. Lost Birmingham and Glasgow in the 2nd wave and chunks of London during a massive siege before bleeding the Posleen white then gradually seeking to clear them out of isolated hold-outs, although the main moves were once space superiority was finally won. [Which was the saving grace in the original book series by John Ringo.]

Imagine if you wrote a story or made a film about aliens landing in Antarctica, or even Africa, taking over and staying in-place. No one would care to read/watch it. You have to have the aliens attack Western nations - probably not even Asia unless it is Japan, maybe China - for sales & viewers.

Basically the situation, although this might change in the future as China especially becomes more important so expect probably some such stories being centred around activities in China. Although since they would probably be in Chinese and with Chinese actors their likely to get very little attention in the west. Which had me thinking, while we hear about the film industry in some non-western countries I don't really know anything about what the situation is in China now. Wonder if something has been developing for the home Chinese market and is still basically invisible to most of us in the west?

If I had to guess, I would think that there is a lot of invisibility on this. Hollywood rules the world when it comes to movies.
