Former 37th president Hubert Humphrey died today.in 1968.humphrey narrowly defeated Nixon in 1972 he won reelection over governor Ronald Reagan.president Bob Dole called Humphrey a great leader.

"King Alexander III leads celebrations in Constantinople of the 50th anniversary of the lifting of the siege of the city and the campaign to liberate western Greece from the Axis."
- From a TL where Alexander I doesn't die from infection after being bitten by a monkey, leading to significantly better success in the war with Turkey for the Greeks.
14th June 1935:
"Lloyd George resigns as PM due to health issues being replaced as Liberal leader by Herbert Samuel. The new PM confirms continued support for the policies of the Chancellor, John Keyne, who's policies are considered decisively in the strong economic recovery from the 1930 depression. This is criticised by the Conservative Party oppistion, especially their Chancellor Winston Churchill."
- This from a TL where WWI goes significantly better for the allies and the Liberal party stays the major radical party in Britain rather than being replaced by the Labour Party.
PS Edited the 1st part as I had the year wrong. It would be 44 not 43 before a liberation is likely given the probable US preference for landing in France ASAP.

The Jefferson Star, May 21st 1998:
Former vice president Barry Goldwater (serving 1969 - 1977) died yesterday here in Jefferson. He passed away peacefully at the age of 89 at his residence in Rocky Point. Tributes from around the world have been pouring in while here in America's fifty-second state, Goldwater, who made Jefferson his adopted home state, there are preparations underway for a major memorial service this coming weekend.
This would be from a world where the former Sonora, along with Baja California, are American states. Rocky Point is Puerto Penasco, a resort on the Gulf of California.

The New York Times November 8, 1912 Roosevelt following his victory on November 5th Roosevelt wins Presidency yet again!Former president Theodore Roosevelt has won the presidency yet again defeating Democratic candidate Champ Clark, incumbent Republican president William Howard Taft, and Socialist candidate Eugene V. Debs. Roosevelt was the favorite to win the election but Champ Clark nearly made a comeback gaining 257 electoral votes but Roosevelt gained 266 electoral votes becoming the new president of the United States. Roosevelt announced his victory to his voters after the decision was made, thanking them for voting and promising to help the American people and get America “on track”. |

The SunJanuary 18, 1967 Beatle Paul McCartney Dead!! Fab 4 now Troubled 3It has been confirmed today that the musician Paul McCartney had died last night in a car accident, The Beatles are in mourning alongside their fans. Paul had stormed out of a recording session with the band following a heated argument with bandmate John Lennon (Lennon has yet to say what they were arguing about). He took his Aston Healey (pictured above) and drove away from the studio in the pouring rain, with anger clouding his judgement and with the slippery road he was on he probably hadn’t notice the lights had changed. Another car was about to collide with him so he served to his right only to crash into a pole damaging the car. His teeth were smashed by the wheel alongside his fingers, all of the glass in the car had shattered and some had landed on him cutting him. He tried to get out but the door wouldn’t budge, the emergency team had arrived by this point and saw McCartney hanging from the doorframe having impaled himself with someleft over glass from his door. The emergency team had pulled him off not knowing who he was due to how bad he looked from the wreck and had to be identified by the remain 3 Beatles. It is unknown if the group will continue on without McCartney or go their separate ways but what is known is that Paul is a deadman and they miss him.

Time Magazine February 18, 2000Lisa Simpson killed off in new Simpsons episode.For years now the oldest daughter of The Simpson family has delighted fans all over the world until last Saturday that is when the 8 year old girl was killed off due to a prank gone wrong. The culprit of course was her older brother Bart Simpson, but this wasn’t his intent. In fact she wasn’t the target, it was the man of the house Homer Simpson. Some critics have argued that this was only a ploy to regain viewers but some of the show’s staff has come out against this stating, “We’ve decided to go in a new direction for the new millennium and we wanted to shake up the show and we hope viewers will stay tuned for episodes and see the fallout of this tragedy.” Yeardley Smith, the voice actress for Lisa, has yet to speak on this controversy. |
