A while since I read any of this and going to work shortly so not much time but some interesting developments. Feel the Nazis were a bit too stereotypical but interesting the orc unrest. Must re-read the rest of the thread to really bring myself up to date. A few things come to mind. a) Was what Tom so willingly told the Nazis accurate? I suspect not and possibly either leading them into a trap or seeking to cause conflict between them and a Martian faction.
b) Have the British done any scan on him since he was rescued? If not there's still that bug he doesn't know about which could cause serious problems.
c) I'm doubtful of the practicality of trade of bulk items between Earth and Mars, especially in the early days and given the time it takes to complete a trip, even with the abilities of Cavorite to reduce the costs of leaving a planetary surface.
Anyway try and catch up more fully later.

The Nazis were supposed to be too stereotypical; there are strange things at play.
Now, to your questions:
A.) No, he told them a fib! It was one with a few elements of truth to it, so that it would pass cursory examination.
B.) Yes and no.
C.) You are quite right. Trade in bulk is too difficult at the beginning, but overly ambitious plans and expectations are a common feature of the early part of certain ventures.
There is a certain sense that the British are perhaps biting off a bit more than they can chew.

General Von Klinkerhoffen will make an appearance at some stage, perhaps not in this tale, albeit in his less farcical form.

Check out the second 1947 story which features James Bond. There are a few names that will be familiar. Hubert Gruber gets a mention in From Sea to Shining Sea, Herr Otto Flick pops up in a story about Constantinople (he becomes a Cold War spy for hire) and the Fallen Madonna is a plot device in another 1947 story.

Chapter 5 Notes:
- The war with the Skular is a planned exercise intended to demonstrate British firepower and advantage to the Martians. It works...in some ways. The Atran seek to use the British; this may not necessarily develop to their advantage. - The transports under construction on Luna are part of the overall strategy of exploiting the opportunity of Mars while they have a fleeting window. - Exploration of Venus also has a high priority, but it is an unknown quantity, whereas Mars is known to have land and riches, apparently for the taking. - Barsoom's technological level is generally equivalent to the late 15th century, sans gunpowder. The advanced weapons of ancient legends are no longer present on this continent. - The Battle of Zrae is based on that of Ulundi; the spoils came to the equivalent of over 250 million pounds in gold, diamonds and precious metals... - One of the dragons is mentioned as a BBC talk show host in 1961. - Deighton isn't actually a robot; Tom is still in shock after the airport attack. - As observed, the "Nazis" are being a bit too stereotypical. - The Heart of Mars, the crux of this tale, is certainly not where Tom says it is. That was the first place that British agents checked, following rumour and legend. - Exactly what it is will come out in due course, but every Earthly great power with an interest in space is after it. There have been hints. - The orcish desire for freedom is not an individual belief, but is held quite widely among the orcs transported to Mars. - Ace Rimmer - what a guy! - The sheer size of Barsoom and its population put paid to any quick plans for conquest. - The inland location later becomes New London. - Japan's mention is deliberate. And that tale, too, shall one day be told. - Wireless telegraphy and radio will be developed somewhat sooner. Maxwell lives to an old age; Faraday lives until 1897. - After the earlier British advantage, other nations can emulate their successful flights. This leads to more secrecy and a growing Martian scramble. - The Grand Fort bears a strong resemblance to Mehrangarh Fort in India. - It almost seems as if the British are being goaded into a reaction... - Rimmer turns out to be just what Tom needs - a clean flight out of town, even if the pilot has something of a cavalier attitude to preflight tippling.

Will do, but funny to see Herr Otto Flick as a Cold War spy for hire, does he also have his sidekick von smallhausen with him.

No, he was abandoned to his fate when Flick fled France.

No, he was abandoned to his fate when Flick fled France. So his bad tub scheme worked.

I never really liked the last few seasons with different personnel, so that particular idea never occurred. This Flick was a bit more ruthless towards Von Smaulhausen.

The original, Richard Gibson. The other was a poor substitute.
Overall, though, the role of 'Allo, 'Allo references is quite minimal. In this particular tale, Tom's quest is now approaching its active phase as, in order to find the Heart of Mars, whatever it may be, he needs to find someone in particular...

Have you incorporated some elements of John Carter of Mars and his adventures in the Darkearth verse.

Only a few, including the name of Barsoom itself; the Dark Earth Continent of Cimmeria, which will be coming up soon, is more similar to the Burroughs-esque portrayal of Mars. The various species and history of Mars is quite different.
