Britsh Empire 2018

Only if gigantic alien space bats flap around. 
Never ever would that criminal empire could survive in its form - it was doomed, because it was the pure evil. You cannot supress millions and billions of people with so little forces.
What worked in the 18th and 19th century could not work today.

So even if the british avoid Worldwar one, the main event that broke its neck, they are doomed.
The "white dominions" wanted allready their independence (if you see it this way), ireland exploded - because in opposition to the whitewashing methods of lots forums the ruling class of the british empire supressed the people in these countries.
Australia - after a tried genocide against the natives and a place to dump their "criminal scum" (people who starved and killed a deer in the "royal forests") turned into a settler colony... still they wanted liberty. "Under the umbrella" of the empire - but finally - they got independent.

Empire means, some people in London decide what is good for the "Empire", against the will of the people in e.g. australia. You can do that ONLY as long as you could supress liberty movements... in the modern world you can´t. 

Any "Empire" who try to supress the will of the native people (to say so) is doomed. You can shoot em, hang em, burn em alive. At some point at some day they beat you. Either they slaughter your "settlers" and "supporters" (then you face a brutal civil war), or they kick em out. Rhodesia was such colony. 

if you have a facist regime - say nazi germany "win" (how? ASB) ww2 - they could keep the thumb on such movements for some years/decades, basically killing everybody who is in sight. The "empire" never was at this level. They had no morale problems with mass killing/starving people, but at a certain point the energy to keep that alive is greater as the benefit.
The problem with this - the moment you let one go, it crash completly.

So no, only ASB save the british empire.
The british commited to many crimes in native countries to hope that these would "accept" rule of white superior englishmen... (to say so)... and no, the queen is not god and nobody in 99% of the colonies cares about her wishes. And she is more accepted as for example the british parliament. 

(Before some people get angry - any other "empire" would be doomed, too. Not the french, spanish, japanese, german or italian colonial empire of some point in history could survive to 2018.)

The idea that people sacrifice their free will and THEIR interests as a nation for the greater goal of the british empire - is ridiculous. 

The moment some areas - dominions or colonies - get liberty rights the thing is done. It is good that they crashed, it should have happen 100 years earlier, because every year an european country manipulated natives "inferiors/kid-likes" (as they called them in their colonial hights) is one year to much. 
If you see how much damage the british empire did in india, how many people died here because of the acting of the british, nobody even could want to see the empire survive any day longer. 

The other thing- if you think at - for example 1920 - and every country that exist today that had been part of the empire once - the original british would be a shit in the corner compared to india, nigeria or other countries... all together you get maybe 4% of the people who are british, maybe not even so many. All others are the former supressed natives in these countries. 

the same would be true for any other colonial master more or less. Maybe germany and italy not, but that is only because these had not so much areas they could take from natives as the "old" masters (UK, france, portugal and spain).

Just think about the dutch - they would be completly dominated by their former servants in the dutch colonies... 

The whole problem start with colonialism - that was very brutal, extreme cruel and crippling. Genocides, enslaved people, destroyed econimies, starved to death, hanged, tortured etc... nothing nice about colonialism, outside some propaganda movies and books. 

As stevep wrote - you have to develop these areas or kill em all. To keep em "poor stupid uneducated xxxx (fill in some insulting word for natives in colonial areas) " doesn´t work in a world in that IS communicate in real time - otherside stoneage criminal scum, able to use and work with the modern communication network.

Some small areas could or would stay with an "empire", but that is because they benefit more from that and they have hostile neighbours (propably). 
Just like the "Kaiser-Wilhelm-archipelagos" could have stay german if the ww1 ends different, such small and distant areas have no impact. But areas like in africa or india - with 100-200 million or even billions of people? Never.
