You mean lost the Democratic nomination or lost the general election?
If you're talking about the Democratic nomination, we probably see President David B. Hill in 1892 and still a President William McKinley in 1896. After that, nothing much would change expect for butterflies.
If you're talking about the general election, then Benjamin Harrison and the Republicans will get blamed for the Panic of 1893 and thus some Democrat will win in 1896. In this scenario, the late 1890s and first decade of the 20th century could be an era of Democratic dominance in the U.S.
