Unfortunately I've already used up my New York Times quota for the month so I can't see it but presumably its about ice cores, probably from Greenland, giving information about industrial activity in the Roman empire via pollutants in the ice core from those dates. Know I've heard of this before and things like lead levels seem to match very closely to the rise and fall of the empire. Possibly have some new info there?
