Think the Gestapo could learn from the Stasi ore many from the Gastapo who survived where turned and joined the Stasi.

Think the Gestapo could learn from the Stasi ore many from the Gastapo who survived where turned and joined the Stasi. The Gestapo and the later years Stasi were very different beasts. East Germany worried about world opinion; Nazi Germany didn't give a damn.

Sounds very much like Big Brother brought into actual existence. Albeit that the East German communist government always had to obey orders from Moscow, which made keeping a consistent line that helped maintain their control more difficult. Also given there were more outside influences in E German so it couldn't be totally cut off, making me think how much closer to total control N Korea probably is. Which is a really depressing thought.

The Stasi and Gestapo indeed were completely different animals. Strange as it may seem, the Stasi did prefer some measure of subtlety, something the Gestapo has never been accused of.
