What if the 1953 movie The War of the Worlds is remade in 1978?
The 1978 remade in TTL is set in late 1981 to early 1982.

I agree with the other posters in this thread, more information like who directed it and some more detail would allow us to disuse the effects of a 1978 remake of the The War of the Worlds.

Since this would be one year after star wars and science fiction was the rage at the time, a war of the wold remake could have happen, I am surprised that it took longer for a big budget movie remake to happen.

Well i think the The War of the Worlds of 1953 is a good one, but it depends on what the 1978 remake looks like.

You're not wrong, i enjoyed the 1953 version alot when i was young and still consider it a good movie today, i just surprises that it took untill 2005 for another theatrical movie to be made of war of the world.

Well both the 1953 version which was more Martians destroying humanity and the 2005 a human and his rebel son and daughter hide in a basement are complete different from each other, so how would a 1978 remake look like, well i do not know.

Cheesy smoke clouds, disco-era sound effects and so many Star Wars copycat features it looks like a basement high-school ripoff. Those were simpler, better times. Now movies are so computerized it's basically a very long video game cut-screen.

Probably very similar in structure at disaster movie like 'The Towering Inferno', 'Airport' and 'Poseidon'; focusing on people trying to survive and adding in between action scene were the army try to stop the martian

Yep, but instead of focusing on a single family we will be 'blessed' with a more ensemble cast of star-former star-up and coming star and all the cliquè and trope of an Irvin Allen movie...and the martian will be revelead as the carrot men of Lost in Space

IN 1978 there was a remake of the invasion of the body snatchers from 56. so there can be a 78 remake of war of the worlds. Also in the glorious 70s there was a war of the worlds comic maybe they could base the 78 war of the worlds on the comic. There was a audience in the 70"s for science fiction. was a audience.
