Well at least now we have mountains to show of depending how many are in Netherlands territory. I think the Netherlands should claim them on that basis: 'we have none, we would like some'. Doubt the British,French ore Belgium will find that a good excuses.

I think a central spur of ridges will act as the borders. Now I have to find a copy of, and learn to use, Photoshop. This map needs to be created and posted.

One thing that occurred to me - that is if you don't go for the central spur idea, which is best and how that is usually done - would be to use the agreed-upon North Sea EEZ divisions. This could be if there is no agreement on the other issue. Link to image: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Sea_oil#/media/File:North_sea_eez.PNG

With Dan's Mountains - my name for them, despite what a four-power (UK/France/Netherlands/Belgium) commission decides - the Netherlands might have a song but no longer a navy... I think?

[br We might still have something, I don't think that it blocks the whole coastline. And even then, the rivers have to go somewhere. But it is a shame that the Haringvlietdam which has just been finished will immediately be useless. And we'll never finish the Oosterscheldekering, wvich really is a shame.

Something the Netherlands,Belgium,France and the United Kingdom can agree with. Oh, the permanently unnamed mountain range then. Well that screws up traffic through the Channel and also opens Britain up to rabies. Especially since such a long route its not as if you could push a canal through. Which is going to increase costs in the shipping between N Europe and the rest of the world. Might well give the western ports a new lease of life as places like Liverpool or Bristol might replace Rotterdam as the terminus point for shipping coming into Europe with railways moving it on from there. Presuming we have the standard ASB actions being accepted as natural rather than having everybody debating about the purpose of this act of god - or the devil? Plus does it nullify the climatic effects as not sure what they would be but bound to be some? Just checked up where Audinghen was, although should have noticed the other side was Folkstone, which should have given me a clue. That's somewhat shorter so most of the channel is still there and a canal might just be possible. Although especially if the new land is mostly mountainous its going to be a pretty big task. Nope... a mountain in size of the alps mean that 90% of the channel is full of 3-4k meters high mountains... also it is not interesting for continent (former) europe to move stuff to UK, because they still need to get that stuff to europe, eh? So in 1973 this happens... the fallout would be VERY dramatic a.) the people would wonder who did it? Evil vilains, Nazis with Reichsflugscheiben?, the commies? Madness yankees, the evil empire aka the Belgians? Who knows... lots of irritation b.) the river rhine face a "small" problem, because it can´t go into the channel anymore, so it move around (it was mentioned, to the north)... the thames-river would still go into the north sea.. no need to change that - or is the mountainous area so big? c.) climate would change... with 4k-high mountains laying between the british isles and continent europe you see a LOT of cold weather hitting the british isles, it could change the weather in london so it has the same weather as Spitzbergen... quite frosty... d.) the north sea countries suddenly see a huge change too... no western current from the channel, a fundamental changed seas... esp. in the mudflad area at west- and eastern frisa things could get VERY interesting... Ironically, UK is suddenly mostly cut off from europe... such a mountain range mean there is no easy way to move stuff around, even airports run into deep troubles... (if you start and face a mountain ridge that isn´t healthy for modern planes, eh? it could be impressive weather effects if an atlantic storm push the water into the rump channel... expect heavy storm floods in the french and british channel areas...this could render some of the existing ports quite to nil. France will still benefit, they will build up HUGE, i mean really HUGE terminals at the atlantic coast, to compensate a bit for the lost important ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp (i think they are both gone, right? The dutch will suffer seriously, but they could join the Hamburg/Ems/Wilhelmshaven-project, invest billions to build up the capacity you need... basically the dollart could be used. Build a dam from Borkum to the coast, start a huge railroad connection and build from scratch the capacities for containers... (we need some more details till what area the mountains go... if the dollart (and the Ems) are closed, it could be wilhelmshaven, if this is closed - happy happy Cuxhaven-Hamburg area For sure it is cheaper to round the british isles and drop in hamburg/Dollart/Wilhelmshaven as to bring it to UK and then (How?) to central europe)... nope... But overall the world would shit its pants because suddenly such an event happened...
