Skippy the Spacebat gets bored of all the arguments about whether or not Sealion could have succeeded or not to takes a saved copy of Earth, (regular saves and back ups are taken just in case. I mean, you never know when some muppet is going to start WWII and nuke the earth into the sun because they can. So more often than not, the earth is restored from a back up without the inhabitants realising), and makes a few tweeks. So as a result, rather than 1937 when a sudden, (if mountainous), land bridge replaces the English Channel, it appears in 1973 instead. Have fun playing in Skippy's Sandbox.

Would this land bridge be something like the image on the right.

A bit bigger than that. It would be a mountain range about the size of the Alps, maybe a little lower that would have a northern line from Cromer in Norfolk to Den Helder in Netherlands, and from about 10 miles north of Folkstone in Kent to Audinghen in France.
As a result, the Rhine would flow to the North Sea and the Thames find an exit into the sea east of Folkstone.

And the mountains need a name.

And the mountains need a name. 'Big ass bad mountains'? Something the Netherlands,Belgium,France and the United Kingdom can agree with.

Something the Netherlands,Belgium,France and the United Kingdom can agree with. Oh, the permanently unnamed mountain range then. Well that screws up traffic through the Channel and also opens Britain up to rabies. Especially since such a long route its not as if you could push a canal through. Which is going to increase costs in the shipping between N Europe and the rest of the world. Might well give the western ports a new lease of life as places like Liverpool or Bristol might replace Rotterdam as the terminus point for shipping coming into Europe with railways moving it on from there. Presuming we have the standard ASB actions being accepted as natural rather than having everybody debating about the purpose of this act of god - or the devil? Plus does it nullify the climatic effects as not sure what they would be but bound to be some? Just checked up where Audinghen was, although should have noticed the other side was Folkstone, which should have given me a clue. That's somewhat shorter so most of the channel is still there and a canal might just be possible. Although especially if the new land is mostly mountainous its going to be a pretty big task.

The world will wake up one morning to a brand new mountain range that's always been there although no one can remember it before then, but it has always been there because mountains can't appear overnight. Typical ASB.
All shipping charts, even historic ones, will show the range too.
Having had a day to think about it, I think one of the first steps will be Alpine style road and rail tunnels.

Do not forget border crossings, i wonder to we now have a three land point where Belgium, British and Netherlands borders now meet. I was thinking, call it the Royal mountains and name them after kings and queen of the four countries.

That's a possibility and a good idea although the French currently being a republic may not be happy with former French monarchs being used. Not to mention the question of do you include the imperial dynasty, or as the Bourbons call them 'those upstarts from Corsica'. Plus who gets to name the highest peak of all, or would it be a new border is arranged and each nations names those peaks in their area? Mind you from Dan's post the ASB may have done it all for us. [Hopefully he/she/it isn't too frivolous. Do you want a peak named Pink Tutu say. ]

Despite popular mythology we're a lot less nationalistic than many in Europe. You get a loud fringe who think their being nationalistic and there has been an upsurge in feeling in recent years that hopefully will go in the correct direction, rather than being diverged into bigotry, We have too much [=> any ] of that already.

Naturally, we call them the Dutch Mountains, and we no longer need a long drive for skiing trips. Aside from that, we might see the development ofthe world's very first shipping tunnel.
