I do remember the comments on the difference between the pilot, when the female members wore trousers and the series when their uniform was a mini-dress. It sounds like the decision on her being relegated to being a nurse - not even a doctor - was more sexism than any comment on her acting abilities.  Insect's idea of a TL with Jeff Hunter rather than William Shatner sounds interesting although it will seem odd. I wonder if it will include how Hunter plays the role and what differences that might make to the franchise. Yep, basically the powers that be found more credible the presence of an alien than a woman being a first officer Well they did in the end have a female cast member in the Shatner version of Star Trek. |

Yep, basically the powers that be found more credible the presence of an alien than a woman being a first officer Well they did in the end have a female cast member in the Shatner version of Star Trek. Well they had a couple with Nurse Chapman and Lieutenant Uhura, although both were relatively minor roles. However there does seem to have been a pretty dated view of women as wives, temptresses or maidens in distress in much of the plots. At least in the original series. Uhura was probably more important as a black person than as a women although the famous kiss did have an impact. |

I think they were the Orion's if I recall correctly? However in many/most episodes there seemed to be some attractive women looking to get very close to the captain. Not that he was that unwilling to assist in most cases. |

Well i will speak with the offender and warn him not to post 1960s pictures while there are more modern pictures of Orion females in Star Trek Enterprise, but i doubt with Jeff hunter in star trek these kinds of scenes will not happen. |

Thanks Lordroel. Some excellent digging there. Sounds like it might have taken some accident to Mrs Hunter, or an earlier divorce, presuming it was her rather than her husband that was the issue to get him in on the 2nd pilot and then the series. |
